Out of town
Kate asked for a oneshot of Emma getting hurt whilst running after Baelfire in NY. Rumple has to call the Charmings who cannot leave town.
"You have to tell them." Baelfire said, astounded even his father would think of trying to brush this under the carpet. "They'll be expecting Emma and Henry home in no more than a couple of days. They have the right to know their daughter is in hospital even if they can't come here."
"What good will telling them do then? They'll just worry themselves sick." Rumple said, trying to deflect.
"You'd want to know if it was me." Neal said quietly. Rumple fell silent. He couldn't deny that. "If you don't call them, I will. You can only imagine that will be some phone call." He pointed out. Rumple sighed. If it was what Bae wanted, it is what he'd do. He pulled his phone out his pocket. Bae nodded in appreciation.
"I'll go check on the kid in the canteen." He said. Rumple knew he'd appreciate a few minutes alone with Henry. After all, they were father and son. Rumple found David's number first and hit call.
David looked puzzled when he saw Rumplestiltskin was calling him.
"Is it Emma?" Snow asked, her head popping round the doorway. They were both on edge about being so far from their daughter and grandson. David shook his head.
"No, Rumple." He answered. Snow frowned. Why would he call? This didn't sound good. She came into the room and sat beside David as he answered the call on speaker phone. "Hello?"
"David?"
"Yeah, it's me. Snow's here with me. What's wrong? Are Emma and Henry alright?" He asked. There was a pause on the other end. "Gold. Are Emma and Henry ok?" David repeated, sounding more serious. Rumple sighed.
"There's been a slight accident." He half admitted. Slight wasn't exactly accurate. When Emma caught up with Baelfire she was so shocked to see her former lover was Rumplestiltskin's son she didn't realise she was in the middle of the road. An oncoming car didn't have time to stop. Emma had broken her ankle. They'd taken her straight to the nearest hospital where they'd operated immediately. Emma was still out cold.
"Accident, what do you mean accident?" Snow asked, beginning to panic.
"Emma fought a car and the car won." Rumple answered dryly.
"She was hit by a car!" David exclaimed. His blood was beginning to boil. "You were supposed to keep them safe!"
"Well there's only so much I can do if Miss Swan isn't aware of her surroundings. She's fine. She's still to come round from the surgery but the doctor said it all went well."
"Surgery?" Snow asked.
"Emma broke her ankle." Rumple explained. Snow and David were devastated. Emma was laid up in hospital with a broken bone and they couldn't go see her?
"Listen carefully, Gold." David snarled. "You look after Emma and Henry until they're both fit to come home. I don't give a damn if you find your son or not, Emma's wellbeing is now your top priority. As soon as she's fit to travel you get them both back to Storybrooke. Even if she has to come straight to the hospital here. We want her home, do I make myself clear?" David said, losing his temper. Rumplestiltskin didn't feel the need to explain they had found his son already. That would just invite unwanted questions that could wait.
"Crystal." Rumple answered, hanging up. Of course he didn't really take orders from the Charmings, but clearly Bae didn't want them riled up before they found out the truth. He owed his son that much.
