Climbing out from under the covers of the cot Uma had let me borrow in her ship, I rubbed my eyes sleepily. I found my way to the deck of the ship looking for any familiar face. I was met with Harry at the helm. "What are you doing up at this time, Princess?"
"I couldn't sleep," I said. "Too much movement."
"Is that all, Princess, or is there something else?" Harry asked smirking at me. "Or should I say someone else?"
"What?" I asked snapping my head to look at him fully awake now.
Harry laughed. "You know, it's never good to fall in love with the person you were gathering information from."
"What are you talking about?" I snapped.
"Stop pretending you don't know what I'm talking about, lass." Harry scoffed.
"Fine," I sighed. "But why should my personal feelings matter in any of this?"
"Because your plan probably doesn't line-up with dog boy's life plan for the two of you. It's better to keep yourself unattached especially if you are to be Sultan." Harry replied.
I sighed. "You're probably right. No one wants a female Sultan, and if they have an excuse to give my crown to a man they will."
"That, my lass, is fucked up. Your gender shouldn't matter in whether or not you are fit to rule." Harry said.
"Thanks, Harry," I smiled at him. "I wish the rest of my kingdom thought like you and my brother."
"Don't worry, I stand behind you, Sultan." He smirked giving an over-dramatic bow removing his hat.
I curtsied. "I am behind you as well, Pirate."
"Even if you grew up in the arms of luxury while I grew up in the streets of poverty," Harry added.
I laughed. "Are you trying to draw comparisons to my parents' story?"
"Maybe," Harry's smirk widened. "Is it working?"
I laughed more. "Not yet, Pirate."
Harry genuinely smiled at me. "Let me know if it ever does."
I slapped his arm. "Oh my Allah! You dirty no good pirate!" I fell into more laughter.
"That's what I am," Harry said smirking and sending me a wink.
"I'm going to go find my brother," I said turning from the pirate. I paused turning back slightly. "Harry?"
"Yes, Princess?" He asked.
"Thanks for taking my mind off of him, even if it was just to flirt," I said smiling at him.
"Anytime, Princess," Harry smirked again waving at my receding back.
I stopped again turning back around. "Why are you up at this time?"
"I haven't gone to bed, lass." He replied. "If you'd like to join me, we could make up an excuse for your brother!"
I snorted. "Nice try, Pirate, but I'm gonna have to pass this time!"
"Ah, but you just said this time. If you want to join another time all you have to do is say so." Harry called.
I turned around flipping him off with a small smile on my face before going to find Kamal.
I found Kami talking to Uma in the Captain's quarters. "Hey, am I interrupting something?"
"No, we were just speaking in private for the fun of it," Kamal replied sarcastically.
Uma smirked rolling her eyes. "Come on in, Nadia."
"It's Dia by the way," I corrected closing the door behind me. I hit Kam on the back of his head.
"Ow! What was that for!?" He snapped.
"Don't take that sarcastic tone with me!" I snapped. "I'm the eldest, remember!"
"You'd never know the way you act," Kam mumbled.
"What was that?" I asked raising my hand to hit him again.
"Nothing, sis." He sighed.
"We've been discussing the final phase of our plan," Uma said.
I smiled. The end of our plan. I hadn't even allowed myself to think that far ahead yet, but now it seems the end is in sight.
"Dia!" My brother yelled breaking me out of my thoughts of the world we would create.
"You're spaced out for a bit there," Uma said.
"Sorry, I'm still a little tired," I said turning back towards my brother and Uma.
"So we should head out today, how likely is it that Alex will meet us in their territory?" Kam asked.
"If you say that you want to make a deal they'll show up," Uma said.
"Perfect," I smiled. "When we pass through I'll do the talking."
"I don't know if you should ever open your mouth, sis," Kamal smirked. I hit him as he burst into laughter.
Well, it's official Nadia, Kamal, Anwar, and Madison have been reported missing. I sat down my tray plopping down in the seat beside my sister sending a small wave to her girlfriend, Léonne Uzoma of Maldonia. "Good morning."
"Hey, Quinn," Léonne said smiling up at me. "So, what are we supposed to do now that they've been officially reported missing?"
I shrugged. "Cooperate with police, I guess. Answer their questions without giving anything away."
Maise sat down from across me. "You just had to tell Carlos to report Nadia missing, didn't you?"
"Oh, I'm sorry." I snapped sarcastically. "I guess I should've told him that his girlfriend went to the Isle of the Lost to start a revolution."
"You two," Sara hissed, "Keep it down! If someone overhears the two of you!"
"Hey guys," Carlos said sitting down beside Maise followed by Jay, Evie, and Doug. "How are you holding up considering half your friend group is gone?"
"We're doing our best," said Sara smiling sadly at them.
"I don't believe I've met you," Jay said looking at Léonne.
Léonne smiled. "I'm Léonne Uzoma of Maldonia, the daughter of Tianna and Naveen. I'm also this girl's girlfriend!"
Sara blushed looking down as Léonne put her arm around her.
"Eh," I said talking through a mouthful of breakfast. "Sis, stop hiding you two are like the cutest couple in this school."
Sara shot me a glare from underneath Léonne's arm. She smiled giving Léonne a peck on the lips. "He's right about one thing."
"What's that?" Léonne asked.
"We are the cutest couple in this school," Sara replied giving Léonne another kiss.
"Hey," I whined, "Stop that! Some of us are sad single people here!"
Maise smirked. "And some of us are happy single people so carry on."
"Maise Dunbar, I will fight you." I threatened.
"I'd like to see you try, Quentin Fitzherbert." She smirked.
"Oh that's it," I snapped standing up. "It is so on!"
"Catch me," Maise yelled popping up from her seat and running off in a fit of laughter.
I was sitting bored in Chemistry 2 playing with the compact mirror I had been given to keep in touch with the others. Suddenly a flash of brown hair caught my eye. I raised my hand covering my mouth, "Sir, I think I'm going to be sick!"
"Get out! Don't ask for permission." He said.
I nodded running out of the room concealing the mirror in my hand. Instead of going to the bathroom, I slipped into the janitor's closet.
"Hey, Dia," I breathed out. "What do you need?"
"Hey, Quinn," she said smiling at me. I couldn't really tell where she was exactly but it looked like some small room. "We're about to head to the Northern part of the Isle. We're going to meet Alex along the way. We plan to make a deal with them to get them to join the cause. I wanted to check on everything there."
"The entire kingdom knows the four of you are gone. They don't know where though," I replied. "Carlos is really worried about you. I don't know how much longer the other Thieves are going to be able to keep up this act. I mean Sara, Léo, Mai, and I are fine, but the rest of them. Who knows if any of them are going to betray us?"
"Don't worry if they betray us then they'll be in for a Thieves send-off," Nadia smirked cluing me into what a "Thieves send-off" is. "How's Operation Cheat Code going?"
I smiled. "Great. You were right about him! I have no idea how you knew, but you hit the nail on the head. How did you know?"
"Let's just say, someone visited me in the night before," Nadia replied.
"Hey, Diamond," Maddie interrupted on Nadia's end. "You ready to go?"
"Yeah," Nadia said to her then looked back at me. "I'll talk to you later Quinn."
"Bye, Dia!" I said before closing the compact and heading back to the classroom to get my backpack.
I sighed and put down the hand mirror. I'm glad that Operation Cheat Code is working well. It's basically all we have as a backup plan. Quinn and I should probably share it with other people, but the fewer people that know the better. I walked up to the deck finding Ani and Gil speaking in low voices. I looked at them smirking. "You talking up another boy from the Isle?"
Ani smirked. "Look, Jay doesn't swing that way, so I have to find someone that does."
"Wait, swing?" Gil asked looking confused.
Ani and I shared a laugh at his confusion. I stepped away from the two as Ani explained it to him.
"Hey, Princess, you prepared for a turf war?" drawled Harry from behind me.
"You act as if I haven't been my entire life," I said before turning to him. "Do you ever sleep?"
"Rarely, lass," Harry smirked.
"Must be why you've lost your mind," I mumbled.
"You call me insane as if I'm the one that chose a land of exile over a life of luxury," Harry snapped.
I shrugged. "Touché," I took in a breath of the salty air. "I chose to start a revolution over my own crown."
"Your revolution begins with a fool's errand," Harry said.
"Don't all revolutions begin that way," I shrugged walking from the first mate to Maddie.
"So you prepared for this, Queen of Madness?" I asked her.
"As ready as I'll always be, Diamond in the Rough." She replied smiling to me.
Kam and Uma joined us. "Ready to head out?"
We both nodded. Ani joined us throwing a bag at Maddie. I grabbed Vitani's leash walking down from the ship waving goodbye to Uma, Harry, and Gil.
Once we left the Southside the entire make up of the Isle changed, it went from lively pubs and seaside shops to underground speakeasies and entrances into dark, ominous caves. Looking into one of the caves, I spoke clearly. "Alexois, I'd like to make a deal."
We stepped back. In a puff of black smoke appeared the child of Hades hair aflame. We all jumped back in fear.
"Whoa, watch out there! I'm not going to hurt you just be careful of the flame!" Alex yelled smirking slightly. "I heard you wanted to make a deal."
I smiled stepping forward, "Yes, I do."
"So, do tell me? What is this deal you wish to make?" They smirked encircling me.
"Alex, I propose that in exchange for your loyalty to our cause and safe passage; we provide you with what every god deserves... recognition," I said coming to their ear. "Millions of people knowing your name and deeds not because of your father or anyone else, but because of you and all that you do."
Alex smirked. "I like it, I do, but what's the cause?"
Kami smirked explaining the plan to them.
Alex smiled. "I'll take that deal if you don't keep your end up I get your soul."
"And if you don't keep up yours then we get your life," I replied.
Alex smirked. "You drive a hard bargain, Sultan, but I accept." They held out their hand engulfed in flames, and I firmly grasped it.
I looked down at the compact mirror hoping for a glimpse into the Isle. Suddenly, Dia appeared in it smiling. "Hey, Quinn, we just arrived in the Northern district of the Isle."
"So when does the takeover take place? Should we join you?" I asked eager to leave this boring existence on Auradon.
"Whoa, slow down, Quinn." She said laughing slightly. "You know we need you guys in Auradon."
"Yeah," I sighed. "But it's so boring here. What are we supposed to do?"
"Get close to the king and the VKs," Nadia said. "Earn their trust, and if all else fails we always have Operation Cheat Code to fall back on."
"Yeah, we do, but what about everyone else?" I asked.
"Everyone else can look out for themselves," Nadia scoffed. "The only people we have to care about, Quinn, is ourselves."
I sighed. "That's a lie, and you know it. No matter what we say, we both have younger twins we have to care about too."
Nadia's smile fell. "I know. I'd like to pretend that we only have ourselves to look after though."
I smiled slightly. "I know. Me too, but we're just not that type of people."
"The world is going to see us as villains," Nadia sighed. "But we know that that's not what we are. We only want the freedom to choose who we are."
I smiled sadly. "But they won't see it like that."
"You get to decide who you are only to a certain extent," Dia said. "The society you belong to decides who you are where you stop defining yourself."
"And our society," I added, "Will decide we are villains."
Dia smiled, "If society has to label me, rebellion leader doesn't sound so bad. Villain on the other hand..."
"They'd never label you as a villain Dia," I reassured. "You're intentions are too selfless and good."
Dia smiled at me, "Thanks for believing in me, Quinn."
"Anytime, Dia," I smiled back at her. "You've always believed in me."
"Look, I should go check on everyone else, but..."
"Yeah, yeah," I said waving her off. "I'll talk to you later." I closed the compact mirror laying back on my bed in frustration.
"How you feeling, Quinn?" asked Doug, my roommate, coming in the room.
"I'm worried about my missing friends," I replied. "I got sick in class earlier today, and no matter how I act everyone thinks that's the wrong way to act."
"I'm sorry," Doug mumbled not looking at me.
"Man," I said sitting up. "Don't worry about it. It's not your fault. How are you holding up? How's Evie?"
"I'm worried about them," Doug replied. "And Evie... she feels partially responsible for some reason."
That's interesting. "Why does she feel responsible?"
"I have no idea," Doug responds biting his lip. He knows more than he's letting on. "Quinn, seriously, do you know where they went? They always seemed to tell you and Sara more than the rest of us."
I narrowed my eyes at him. Is he fishing for information? Did Evie put him up to this? "I'm not sure where they went, but Dia was always worried about becoming Sultan."
I sighed rubbing my eyes and falling back down onto the bed. "Maddie could've very well gone home. We all know she misses Wonderland deeply."
"But why go back now?" Doug asked. "With no sort of warning?"
"I have no idea, Doug." I sighed rubbing my eyes tiredly. "I'm just as in the dark as you are!"
Doug flinched at the anger in my tone. "I'm sorry, Quinn."
"No!" I exclaimed jumping up. "I should apologize to you! I'm stressed and worried. That's no excuse to snap at you. I'm so sorry."
Doug smiled weakly. "We're all on edge. Don't apologize for having feelings, Quinn. You don't have to be the strong, emotionless guy you try to be just because the things you're passionate about are a little outside of the norm."
I smiled at Doug, genuinely smiled at him. "Thank you so much."
