Chapter 53: What's up, Tiger Mommy?
I sat on the porch reading a book. Riot curled up against my legs sleeping away. It was a calm, peaceful day. I haven't received word yet from the Winchesters. Sam sent a text saying Dean wanted to check on loose ends before coming back. Whatever it is, it must be that important if Sam can't give me the fine details.
I sighed, thinking what happened on our date before Dean called.
For a moment, a part of hoped it was a marriage proposal. I mean, we have been friends since 2006, and a relationship for almost three years. My curiosity got the best of me that I scavenge the entire house to look for any signs of engagement. Sadly, there was none. Not even a damn receipt. Got to say, Sam knows how to cover his tracks.
As time went on, a sudden sound of a wing that was flapping. My heart literally stopped, only two types of Supernatural beings could make that sound. A dragon and an angel. Having no relationships with dragons, it could just be an angel. But I haven't had contact with any angels other than Castiel, and Dean stated he was dead.
Riot growled, barking at the celestial intruder.
Looking up, I expected to be some angel in a grey suit.
However, it was no angel in a grey suit. No, the celestial being was taking refuge in one of my Columbus friends. Rage filled me as I stood up.
"Hello, my name is Samandriel," He said.
"Who is taking possession of my friend Alfie," I growled.
"Apologies," he said. "I thought a familiar face might ease our encounter."
"Well, it just adds more fuel to the fire," I said. "And why in god's name are you wearing that ghastly uniform? Alfie doesn't work for Wiener Hut anymore."
Alfie finished getting his master's degree in Engineering and works for a company. The only reason Alfie kept the cheesy red and white uniform was for all the memories he had, and probably kinky reason to with Cheryl.
"Oh," the angel said looking at his attire. "When I asked to borrow his vessel, he was in his vulnerable state. So, I grabbed the most assembled attire in his closet."
I shook my head not believing this.
"Why are you here?" I demanded.
"I need your help," the angel said.
"My help?" I asked. "After all of you angels have done in saving the word, by allowing the Apocalypse to happen and protecting the prophet."
"Again, apologies, we were following orders, and the Leviathan got the best of us," he said.
"For someone who is supposed to protect humanity, you're doing a lousy job," I muttered. "Why are you here?"
"I need your help?"
"My help?" I laughed.
"Please," Samandriel said.
"On what?" I asked.
"In collecting the Word of God," he said.
I stopped looking at him. Did he say what I think he said? "The Leviathan Tablet was destroyed."
"Actually, one of my brothers managed to collect it before the explosion." He corrected.
I stopped and glared at him, "There were angels there, and they did nothing to help?"
"Our mission was to get the tablet and Kevin Tran," He explained sensing the tension.
"Well, you fucked up on that!" I yelled. "Kevin was taken, and I was stabbed in the back bleeding to death! Where were you?"
"My brothers and I were sidetracked by the Leviathan," he stated.
I growled not believing him, "You are the worse whitelighters ever. Protect humanity, and you can't even do that."
I walked into the house followed by Riot. Samandriel tried to come in but stopped being shoved back. I smirked. Sam and I placed warding sigils they are only one shade off from the actual wall paint that no one but a keen eye could tell.
"Please," the angel said.
"No, you angels have been nothing but fluttering assholes on their plastic pedestal thinking about only themselves and a deity who has abandoned all you all. Instead of growing up, you put fits."
Samandriel was baffled then paused as if in a daze.
"I couldn't say anymore better than myself," Athena said appearing out of nowhere.
"Athena," I said surprised.
I haven't seen her in a few years. Probably when trying to get Sam's soul back into his body. Out of respect of never knowing when the goddess would come, we never put a warding spell from her.
"What brings you here?" I asked.
"I came to pay a visit and informing you of an artifact that may be of interest to you," Athena holding up a catalog.
Taking hold of the catalog, I stared into the many artifacts that were being sold off. However, in the catalog was one item that baffled me. It was indeed a Word of God. But the angel said they have the Leviathan Tablet. And looking at the top of the tablet where the title in ancient Enochian that was visible said "The Word of God about- "I couldn't translate the rest. It was not familiar nor any symbols that
Kevin translated a year ago.
"That's why we need to get it," Samandriel said from the front door.
"Do you even have the profit to afford Plutus auction," Athena said. "He takes things that are more than money value."
"I assure you, the heavenly host has enough items to trade from." The angel said.
"Then why my gifted?" Athena asked.
Samandriel sighed, "I believed since she has encounter the tablet her abilities could help us translate the word of God if not having your gifted presence could get us an advantage of Plutus's grace."
Athena nodded, "Very well."
I growled, "Fine, but once this is done. You promise to vacate Alfie's vessel. He doesn't deserve to be in this mess."
Samandriel nodded, "I promise my grace. After the auction, I will return your friend to his house and never bother him or any of your friends again."
"He speaks the truth," Athena confirmed.
I nodded.
With a snap of the goddess fingers, I was suddenly in a damn modern Grecian outfit. Although it was a white lace top with a golden belt along with a pair of loose fitted pants plus sandals. And let's not forget the owl pendant around my next. Realizing I have no say, I called texted Jesse for a favor to watch Riot while I go on a necessary trip. He texts back saying he could be there in an hour. So, securing Riot in the house, we walked outside shutting the door.
"Shall we?" Athena asked.
Not having much of choice, I nodded.
Placing her hand on both Samandriel and I we teleported to the destination of where this auction would be held. In a flash, we found ourselves in front of a warehouse. Snapping her fingers forward, I opened the door to let the celestial beings in. Once inside we were greeted by a metal detector. This was surprising, not expecting to see something…human at a godly event.
We follow protocols, as Athena removed her spear and shrunk it to that of a quill, follow by her belt before going inside. The machine didn't go off giving her the all clear. Next Samandriel took his hat, any metals, and angel blade in the basket. Next, he went through the metal detector not triggering it.
"Do to Plutus policies of no weapons, we will obtain your blade until the end of the auction," One of the security guards in a black suit said.
"Understandable," Samandriel said, collecting the things he could take in before he was given a ticket.
I removed any metals, including my dagger and gun before going through the metal detector. Receiving the same policies, I have issued a ticket while my weapons were escorted to a secured location. For once I felt naked without my weapons. Sure, Athena was given an exception, as she put her spear into safe mode, if not having a connection with the god. But the angel and I, we were vulnerable. Scratched that. I was vulnerable. Samandriel could smite someone or disappear in a second.
Looking around, I could see a lot of the artifacts and the condition of the warehouse. Not how I would expect for a god to host an auction. Sure, maybe an illusion of a warehouse on the outside and then some fancy five-star resort on the inside. Almost like Elysian Field Hotel. Simple on the outside, expensive on the inside. Especially with the god of wealth. Nope, it was an ordinary warehouse on the inside, just with a few display glass cases of ancient artifacts. But I had to give Plutus credit on the number of sigils on the walls, windows, and doors. Then again, with The Word of God being auction off it would attract demonic and the heavenly host. There were a dozen people here, all in their human form. Including a monk.
"Is that Buddha?" I asked.
Athena looked at the monk, "No, that is one of his followers."
I nodded.
We walked around the exhibits to see what was being auctioned offed and searched for the tablet. Items liked the Da Vinci Code, Excalibur, the helmet of Ares, and so much more. One item that caught me by surprised was Thor's hammer, Mjolnir. An elder gentleman in a tweed suit hovers over it with much satisfaction.
"Vili, what a surprise," Athena said approaching the man.
Vili, why does that name found familiar, I thought to myself.
The man turned around and smiled, "Ah, Athena, it is good to see you again."
"As do I," Athena said. "I am so sorry for your loss. Your brother Odin was a mighty warrior, and he fought Lucifer off with all his might."
"I appreciate your condolences," Mr. Vili said.
Oh, he's a Norse god. Brother of Odin and one of the Asgardian gods who slain the frost giant Ymir. It's strange to know who is right on the creation of man. Athena said it was entirely a coincidence that many of the gods were making mankind at the same time. Only the Biblical God had his first prototype down on earth first while the others waited for a bit to perfect humanity. Or at least the vessels of humanity.
"So, what brings you here?" Athena asked.
"Well, seeing family is dying off to Valhalla or disappearing I think It's time to collect what has been lost to be found." Mr. Villi said. "Thor is a bit reckless when it comes to his weapons. He was devoted to Mjolnir until he received Stormbreaker."
"Shame how children see an heirloom as nothing but toys," Athena commented.
"Shame indeed," Mr. Vili said.
"I'll let you be, best of luck my friend," Athena said.
Mr. Vili nodded going back to a wing at the priceless weapon.
We walked around the room until coming across the Demon table. However, there was one problem. The demon tablet had a metal plate on it. Therefore, I couldn't get a picture of it to use in the
translations. Damn, Plutus is actually careful. Then again, I wouldn't blame him since an artifact from one of the dominant gods is priceless.
"That's Plutus for you," Athena said.
"Indeed," a man in a fancy suit said.
We turned around which Athena gave a smile, "Beau, thank you for the invitation."
"The pleasure is all mine," Beau said.
"Do think I could have a word with Plutus, I brought him a gift." She said holding a bottle of wine.
Beau took a looked and awed, "Dionysus vintage, excellent."
"Indeed," a man in a navy blue and yellow striped jumpsuit said. He was middle age nearly balding.
"Athena."
"Plutus," Athena greeted. "It's been a while."
"Agreed," Plutus said. "I take it you are here for the amulet of Hesperus."
"That and curious on the Word of God. "
"A woman for intelligence," he murmured.
"And wisdom," she added.
Plutus nodded, "I see."
"Since we are dear friends and practically family, would I be able to get a discount." She asked.
"For you Athena, of course," Plutus answered. "Just follow as usual, and I will give you the discount afterward."
Athena nodded as she went to explore the merchandise.
Suddenly the metal detector goes off. All eyes went to the entrance to see four people come in. My eyes literally widen to see Sam and Dean coming in, but also Kevin Tran and his mother. Last I saw Mrs. Tran was back at SucroCorp seeing her tied up, as a leviathan threatened her life if her son did not cooperate with Dick Roman. Another thing was seeing Kevin.
"Samandriel," I whispered.
"Yes Skylar?" he replied.
"Is that Kevin Tran?" I asked.
He looked to where I was staring at and nodded, "Yes."
"Is there a demon inside him?" I asked.
He gave a puzzle looked not expecting that. "No, he is the prophet. His vessel and soul are pure."
Mixed emotions filled me. Happy that Kevin was, in fact, alive and not being possessed by a demon. However, to realize that Sam had lied to me after all this time. We spent months searching for Kevin, and Sam had the audacity to fake Kevin's death. All this time!
None seemed to notice me. They were focused on Dean who triggered the alarmed that got securities attention. Mr. Beau said something to Dean that irritated him. A storage box was presented as Dean was instructed to remove all his weapons. Let's just say it took some time, as Dean removed many weapons out of every pocket on his persons. Some being in unique locations.
Afterward, they walked out.
Unable to resist I walked over to them.
"Kevin," I said still in disbelief.
He turned around, and his eyes widen. Instantly we gave each other a hug.
"I can't believe it," I said, getting a better look at him. He no longer looked like a teenager. His hair cut short, grew a few inches and filled out on some muscles. "I…thought you were dead."
"Same, Crowley said you were dead," Kevin said, then cleared his throat pulling back and facing Mrs. Tran. "Mom, this is Skylar. She is the huntress I told you about."
Mrs. Tran nodded, "You're the one who protected my son."
"To the best of my ability," I replied. "Sadly, not enough."
Mrs. Tran nodded, "The fact that you tried with your life is all I needed."
I nodded then went over to hug Dean. Dean returned a quick hug before pulling back, "As much as it's great to see you again…why are you here?"
"Athena," I said.
"Well, that answers it," Dean said.
I nodded and faced Sam. He stood there awkwardly. I held a neutral expression before slapping my boyfriend hard in the face. This surprised the tall hunter as he stumbled back. I don't know what is worse, that he lied saying Kevin was dead or had teamed up with Ruby? Either way, it didn't stop the feeling of betrayal. Sam was about to open his mouth, but Dean silences him.
"Now's not the time to argue," Dean said. "Skylar, you can lecture him later."
I took a deep breath and nodded, "I'll show you where the tablet is."
They nodded as I escorted them to the display case.
"How the hell are we supposed to know who's who?" Dean asked.
"It's pretty simple, Dean," Sam replied quietly. "They're all monsters."
"Careful," I warned them. "There is a hand full of gods here."
"Hey, hey," Dean said pointing out the item they seek. The group walked over to the display case containing the Word of God. A piece of metal has been affixed in front of the tablet, so it cannot be read. "Great."
"I guess we're not as original as we thought," Kevin mumbled.
"It's okay. It's okay." Sam tried to be positive. "We just got to come up with a plan "B."
"And what, pray tell, could possibly have been plan "A"?" Crowley said, appearing out of nowhere.
"Bring the Prophet to the most dangerous place on Earth, memorize the tablet, and then vamoose? Hello, boys."
Tension engulfed the entire room. So thick you could cut it with a knife. The last I saw Crowley, he had one of his demons stab me in the back…literally. Then took Kevin away from my protection. That was a year ago. A year of pain and recovery by his traitorous act. Might as well call him the Brutus from all the allies we have in the supernatural world.
"Oh, if it isn't Miss. Skylar," Crowley greeted. "How's your back?"
"Better than it was a year ago," I growled.
"Excellent," the demon cooed, then his eyes turned to another, "Kevin. What a pleasure to see you. Sorry about your little playdate. Her name? Ah. Well, if you're gonna make an omelet, sometimes you have to break some spines. And who is this lovely young thing? Must be your sister."
Mrs. Tran marched over and slapped Crowley hard across the face. All of us hunters, including Kevin was surprised by this. No one has ever slapped the king of hell in this lifetime. This even baffled the demon, that he expressed pain, crying out and touching his face.
"Stay away from my son," Mrs. Tran warned.
"Charming," Crowley murmured rubbing his lip. "Defiling her corpse has just made number one on my to-do list. "Dean stepped forward. However, Sam stopped him. Which the demon decided to taunt more. "Unh, unh, unh, unh. Don't mind a little love tap, but anything more, and our mookie pals here may just throw you out, and that would be a shame. "
"He's right, Dean. It's not worth it." Sam muttered.
"Listen to Moose, Squirrel," Crowley started to warn.
The doors opened as Plutus came out from his quarters after putting the gift of wine away. He marched forward escorting everyone to the stage room where the auction would take place.
"Ah. Here comes our host," Crowley said with pleasure.
"Honored guests, please take your seats," Mr. Beau announced.
"That's Plutus?" Dean asked. "What is he, God of the candy aisle?"
"No, the god of greed and wealth. If not the son of Demeter," Athena said coming over. "I advise you be careful in what you say. He may be our host, but he decides what you want to trade is worth it or not."
Sam and Dean nodded.
"Gentlemen, the auction is starting." Mr. Beau added.
"Good luck with the bidding," Crowley taunt.
We made our way over to our seats. As we walked, Samandriel stopped Dean to have a quick word. Meanwhile, Sam whispered to Mrs. Tran, complimenting her right hook which made her smile. Afterward, we were seated, as the human on my left, and the Goddess of Wisdom on my right. Samandriel sat behind us, while Crowley, an extra row behind the angel. Of course, the demon had to taunt the angel.
"Ladies, gentlemen, and... other, welcome to this once-in-a-lifetime event," Mr. Beau greeted. "The first name in magical and alchemical esoterica. Our prices may be high, but our quality is unmatched, and we stand by our products."
All of us humans tried to gather their things they could use to purchase the tablet. Sadly, I had nothing but the clothes on my back and purse that only has a credit card and few magical items.
"Don't know why you're so keen on that hunk of dirt. So, it tells you how to blast back a few demons? I'll just make more. Can't get rid of all of my black-eyed boys, Samantha." Crowley said.
Sam turned his head glaring at him, "Yeah, we'll see."
He then faced us, "All right. So, how much we got for plan "B"?"
"Uh, well, we got our hacked credit cards, $2,000, and a, uh, Costco membership," Dean said.
Mrs. Tran gave him a thumb up.
Athena chuckled softly covering her lips to suppress her amusement.
"Our first item, the amulet of Hesperus. Let's start the bidding with, um, three tons of dwarven gold?" Mr. Beau said holding a beautiful necklace. All our eyes widen in shock. For that necklace alone to start bidding of three tons of gold. Not just any gold, but dwarven gold. Who knew the seven dwarves more than diamonds. Mr. Beau continued as Athena started the bid waving her hand gracefully. "Ah. This lady. I have three. Do I have, uh, four? Ah. Four, gentlemen here. Four. Going for five. Five?" Athena raised her hand. "Five to this lady. Do we have an advance of five tons?"
"Plan "C"?" Sam mumbled.
"Big time," Dean muttered.
"Any other bids? Any other bids? "Mr. Beau asked.
"I'm gonna use the restroom," Dean whispered and excused himself.
"Sold," Mr. Beau said as he used the gavel sealing the dead.
Athena grinned.
I turned to face the goddess, "By any chance…can I ask for a loan."
"Considering what you have been through, I will consider it depending on how far I could get," Athena said.
I sighed in relief as did the others. But she reminded us depending on how far she could get. Plutus decides what is accepted for trade. Based on the upcoming items, Mr. Beau would look at Plutus who sat on his throne holding a newspaper. He would nod in acceptance or shake his head to decline. After four items being sold, Dean returned not happy. Probably failed to get the tablet the old fashion way…stealing.
"Our next item up for bid, the hammer of Thor, Mjolnir." Mr. Beau said, as one of the henchmen brought up the infamous hammer.
"A finger bone from the frost giant Ymir," Mr. Vili offered, holding a giant petrified finger.
Mr. Beau was impressed and looked at his boss to decide. Sadly, Plutus shook his head declining the offer.
The Norse God thought quickly as he stood up holding a brown paper bag covered in bloodstains, "Uh... the bone and uh…5/8th of a virgin. "
Sam and I recoil slightly. Did he seriously say 5/8th of a virgin? I thought this auction was about artifacts, not human sacrifices.
"Again, only the Greek gods don't consume human flesh." Athena murmured to me.
Plutus nodded accepting the Norse God's offer.
"Ah. Sold," Mr. Beau said hitting the gavel.
"Then what will he do with 5/8th of a virgin?" I asked quietly.
"Probably sell it to another cannibal god or make a potion out of it." She answered.
Dean nudged Sam over to another chair as they talked to each other. "Plan "C" tanked."
"Maybe you should try plan "D" for dumbass," Crowley murmured, earning another set of glares.
"Our next lot, the Word of God…" Mr. Beau announced as he carefully held the tablet. "Capital "G" – very old, very rare."
Remembering about the compensation, knowing there is an extra million I thought it could be a chance and waved my hand, "One million dollars."
"How does she have the money?" Dean asked Sam.
"The SucroCorp scandal," Sam whispered.
Crowley stood up, "Three billion dollars."
"Whoa," Sam and Dean said simultaneously.
Samandriel stood up, "The "Mona Lisa."
"The real "Mona Lisa," where she's topless," Crowley said gleefully.
"The original tapestries of Arachne," Athena countered offered. "Before she turned into a spider."
That tempted Plutus
"Vatican City," Samandriel offered.
"Alaska," Crowley countered.
Mr. Beau laughed, "Palin and a bridge to nowhere? No, thanks."
"Boys please," Athena murmured. "The Library of Alexandria."
Again, another temptation from Plutus.
Crowley sighed, "All right. The moon. "
"You're bidding the moon?" Dean asked in disbelief.
"Yeah. Claimed it for Hell." Crowley answered. "Think a man named Buzz gets to go into space without making a deal? "
"Ah. I'm sorry, gentlemen and my lady." Mr. Beau announced. "It seems that our reserve price has not been met. So, to stimulate the bidding, we're going to add an item to this lot…" he pointed his finger at the audience. "…Kevin Tran, Prophet of the Lord. "
Mrs. Tran gasped, as Kevin disappeared and suddenly reappeared shackle to the stage.
"No! "Mrs. Tran cried in protest. Sam and Dean stood up but were forced back down by Plutus men. I was as well, only it was Athena who forced me down.
"Mr. Tran is the only person on Earth who can read this tablet, which makes them a perfect matching set." Mr. Beau added.
"So out of your league," Crowley commented.
"So, do I hear a bit of, um – "
"No, stop!" Mrs. Tran interrupted. "I'll give you whatever you want. I have a 401(K), my house."
The god of greed chuckled at such an offer.
"Good effort, Mrs. Tran," Mr. Beau complimented. "But I'm afraid this is a little out of your price range."
Mrs. Tran hesitated before she took a deep breath and said, "My soul."
"Mom don't!" Kevin cried out.
"I bid my soul!" Mrs. Tran confirmed.
"Are you sure?" Dean asked in shocked. "That's a big move."
"Interesting," Plutus murmured now interested.
"If it's souls that you're after, I can give you a million souls," Crowley countered offered.
I stared at Athena which she shakes her head. Of course, she was not Hades. She has no access to human souls only faith.
Dean frowned and turned to face Samandriel, "Hey, flyboy, are you gonna get in on this?"
"We guard the souls in Heaven," Samandriel explained. "We don't horse-trade them."
"So, we have a deal," Crowley said.
"It's not about the quantity, chief," Plutus said, setting his newspaper aside and sat up straight. "It's about the sacrifice. This little lady's soul is the most valuable thing she has. It's everything. Are you willing to offer everything, Mr. Crowley?"
Everything holds value. It explains why during the beginning of the bid Plutus was interested in Athena's offers. They hold value to her personally. The Tapestry of Arachne was a memento of a mortal who challenged her skill. The Library of Alexandria holds all the knowledge of the world before the change of worship. She is the Goddess of Wisdom after all, and wisdom connects to intelligence. Gods take a value of an object or a life seriously. The Grecian gods survived not only on ambrosia and nectar but the worship of their peoples and faith that is powered by their souls. Many gods accepted sacrifices of life to appeased them, or in this case their souls. So what Samandriel and Crowley have been offering may hold value towards humans, the symbolism, but these objects hold less meaning to them. They were objects, not treasures. Athena was willing to trade a piece of her success and history for the Tablet. However, Mrs. Tran offer says it all. Strip away everything from the woman and her soul and life is what she has left.
"Tick-tock," Dean taunted.
"Fine," Crowley said apprehensively. "You win. I bid... my own soul!"
Everyone was shocked since that was unexpected and out of character, even for Crowley.
Can a demon soul be more valuable than a human soul? I asked myself.
"Mr. Crowley, you don't have a soul." Plutus laughed then breathed looking at the winner of Mrs. Tran, "Congrats, sweetheart."
Well, that answers my question, I thought to myself. Guess a demon soul is worth nothing.
"Thank you." Mrs. Tran cried in relief. "Thank you."
Furious, Crowley left the room.
We may have won this battle, but it came with a hefty price.
.o0o.
After the auction, then everyone who wasn't human got what they wanted as they left the room. Athena excused herself from giving us privacy. Sam, Dean, and I sat around Mrs. Tran who was in distress realizing what she had done. She only had three treasures: her soul, her life, and her son. She was willing to give her most sacred treasure, her everlasting to save her son. She was willing to give up her chance for eternal peace in heaven to be whatever Plutus wanted it to be.
"Losing my soul – is it going to hurt?" Mrs. Tran asked
"Probably," Dean guessed.
"Will I die?" Mrs. Tran asked.
"No. You'll just wish you were dead," Sam said.
"Your body will be alive," I said taking her hand. "However, each vessel holds their specific traits without the soul."
"As in?" Mrs. Tran asked.
I took a deep breath going over my research, "You could fall into a coma like a state. Another could be a vegetated state, breathe, blink, and walk with guidance. Then there's not caring, no morals. And finally, your body could go into a primal instinct."
Mrs. Tran took a heavy sigh understanding what her possibilities are once she gives soul and the state of her vessel, as she whispers, "Okay."
Beau enters the room keeping a professional face, "It's time."
Sam, Dean and I stood up while Mrs. Tran remained sitting.
"You, all right?" Dean asked her.
"Yeah," Mrs. Tran answered suppressing a sob. "Can I – can I just have a minute?"
We nodded as we started heading out.
"Dean, this suck," Sam said.
"Are you kidding me? We're about to close the gates of Hell forever." Dean muttered. "If you ask me, we got off cheap."
"Close the gates?" I asked.
"Not now," Dean whispered implying to our location.
Looking back, I saw Samandriel walking over to Mrs. Tran. Probably giving his condolences and gratitude in her sacrifice.
. o0o.
We were in the Storage room.
Mr. Vili exchanged the bag that contains 5/8ths of a virgin and the finger of Ymir. Once signing the receipt, he picked up Thor's hammer and caressed it as if it were a baby, "Mjolnir, I've missed you."
Athena signed her papers, "Expect the five tons of Dwarven gold within a week."
"Of course," Plutus said as he picked up the amulet of Hesperus. "May I?"
Athena nodded lifting her hair that allowed the God of Greed to place the amulet around her neck.
"And it will be three tons of gold," Plutus reminded. "I did offer you a discount."
"Appreciated," Athena murmured.
Mr. Beau escorted Mrs. Tran into the room. Looking around the room, Dean noticed someone was missing, "Where's the kid?"
Plutus snapped his fingers as his goons brought in Kevin as he held the tablet.
"What are you gonna do with her soul?" Sam asked.
"Whatever I want," Plutus answered with mirth. "I might sell it, or maybe I'll just tuck it away with my other precious objects, let them keep me warm at night. Mm." He chuckled seeing Mrs. Tran shudder in disgust. Then he holds out his hands to her in a sick yet kind gesture. "Whenever you're ready, dear."
Mrs. Tran took a deep breath as she walked over raising her right hand. Dean noticed something was off and grabbed her, rolling up her sleeve revealing a fresh burn on her skin. By the looks of the remaining patter, the anti-possession sigil was now void. In other words….
"Wait!" Dean called out as we put two and two together.
"Hello, boys," Mrs. Tran said, but it wasn't her voice. No, it was Crowley, as her brown eyes turned red.
"Crowley!" I yelled.
Crowley in Mrs. Tran's body flings her arms sending Sam, Dean and I flying across the room.
Plutus was dumbfounded, "No. You can't. My warding spells."
"Your girl Friday showed me a few loopholes," Crowley murmured.
Plutus feeling betrayed glared at Mr. Beau who smiled happily followed by a shrug.
"And all it cost me was an island in the South Pacific. I love a bargain," Crowley murmured.
"Aren't you a cutthroat bitch," Athena growled.
"In this form, yes I am," Crowley grinned.
Suddenly Beau stabbed Plutus in the back with a wooden stake dipped in sacred blood. Before Athena could stop the execution, Crowley grabbed the stake pulling it all the way through the heart. He took the stake throwing it at Athena, except she transfigures her pen back into a spear blocking it. Unfortunately, it still killed Plutus minions in the chest.
"Can't-do all my tricks, but I can do enough," Crowley murmured, walking over to the table to collect the tablet.
"Get out of her!" Kevin yelled.
Immediately Dean rushed and grabbed a weapon from the confiscated section to pull out Ruby's knife.
"If I had a nickel for every time someone screamed -that- at me..." Crowley chuckled.
Sam tackled Crowley to the ground.
We rushed surrounding him.
"Getting in touch with your feminine side, huh, Crowley?" Dean murmured.
"Something like that," Crowley murmured.
"Well, come and get him," Dean challenged.
Crowley stared at his surroundings seeing three hunters and a goddess holding their weapons at him. He looked at each one of us, gazing at Kevin before making the decision.
"One out of two ain't bad," She said and ran out the room carrying the Word of God.
"Watch the kid!" Dean ordered running after the demon.
Kevin rushes to help, "Kevin, don't! Let Dean take care of it."
There was a sound of a click, as Beau aimed a gun at Sam.
"Sam, move!" Kevin yelled pushing him away.
Beau fired the gun but missed as we took cover.
Athena growled and attacked the traitor with her spear. The god stepped back looking at her, "Take what you like and leave."
"You have betrayed us, Beau," Athena growled.
Kevin was about to escape out of the room, but Beau aimed his gun at him. "Don't! You know what's better than one private island? Two private islands. Let me have the profit and the tablet Athena, and everything else is yours."
"Tempting," Athena, said. "But not enough."
She stabbed him in the gut resulting the gun to go off. Being close to Kevin, I tackled him down covering his body. Looking up, Beau stumbled back holding his stomach baffled to be stabbed. Not realizing Sam was right behind him holding Mjolnir. One swing to the back of Beau head creating a discharge of lightning killing the god on impact. Beau body felled to the ground dead.
Kevin got up and ran after Dean.
"Kevin," Sam yelled going after him handing the hammer off to me.
I stumbled from the weight and looked at the two remaining gods in the room.
Mr. Vili walked over nervously, "Okay. Your friend used the hammer as promised. Give it back. Give it back."
I was about to give it back until sensing a protest within the weapon. I remember in Marvel comics that only ones who are worthy to wield Thor's hammer. Thinking about the movie, I looked at Vili, "Where'd you get the 5/8 of a virgin?"
Mr. Vili gave a hesitated smile and shrugs innocently.
"Mjolnir says you're not worthy," I said, feeling the hammer's pulse.
"Oh, no," the old god said
Summoning my strength, I swung the hammer at the Asgardian. Lightning erupted and cracked killing the god as he turned into a pile of dust. Leaving nothing but the clothes.
"And that is what happens when you don't follow today's currency," Athena murmured. "Go after your friends."
I nodded running out of the room. The moment I joined the others, Dean had Mrs. Tran pinned to the wall as he was pushed. Spreading her arms out wide and screamed. As red smoke pultruded out of her mouth and stormed to another room. Mrs. Tran's body fell to the ground. A moment later, a door opened as Crowley in his original vessel stepped out, brushing off his coat.
"Well, that was exciting. Good luck closing the gates to Hell..." Crowley murmured, picking up the Word of God. "…without this."
Kevin rushed over to his mother helping her sit up and lean against the wall.
"Surprising what mommy dearest has rattling around in her head" Crowley teased." Want to know who your real father is? Scandalous. "
"Crowley!" Dean warned.
"I know we're not mates, Kevin, but one word of advice – run," Crowley warning. "Run far and run fast. Cause the Winchesters – well, they have a habit of using people up and watching them die bloody. Toodles."
Afterward, the demon waved his hand left the room in a flash.
.o0o.
We were in the main room of the warehouse. Athena came over to check on Mrs. Tran. She was in a catatonic state. Not responding to anyone. Not even responding to her son.
"She has her soul," Athena assured calmly. "I think being tortured and the sudden invasion by Crowley only put her in shock. Give her time, Kevin. She will come around."
"Thank you," Kevin said.
"Kevin, I am so sorry," I said.
"It's not your fault," Kevin mumbled.
"Is there anything I could do?" I asked.
Kevin thought about it and nodded asking for a favor. Knowing a debt needed to be paid. I provided him the resources and other details for future use. Kevin quickly put them in his pocket before Sam and Dean entered the room.
"Has she said anything?" Sam asked.
Kevin shook his head.
"Listen, Kev, what your mom went through – it's hell. Trust me, I know. But she seems tough. She'll pull it together." Dean tried to encourage him
"You tried to kill her," Kevin growled.
Dean took a deep breath, "Kid, in this life – "
"Shut up!" the boy snapped. "I don't want to hear any more of your crappy speeches. I just want to talk to my mom alone."
"Sure," Sam promised. "Five minutes."
I nodded to Athena knowing what to do since she agreed to help them.
So, we headed out of the room to give Kevin privacy. Since the Winchesters thought the best thing to do, dropped Mrs. Tran at a nursing home or mental health institute and take Kevin to a safe location. Sadly, this will not go as planned.
"Were you really going to kill Mrs. Tran?" I asked Dean.
"Slit soccer mom's throat? Yeah, I was. I wish I had." Dean answered.
"Dean – "I said baffled.
"It was Crowley, Sky." Dean defended. "No matter what meat suit he's in, I should have knifed him. I mean, yeah, it would have sucked, and I would have hated myself, but what's one more nightmare, right"
I took a deep breath. So much is going on. First Samandriel hosting Alfie's body, which I hope the Angel has taken his word and returned to Columbus. Because I don't want to lose another friend in this madness. Then Crowley pulling the switch and snitch getting the tablet. And now Dean is more killer friendly than ever before. The Dean I knew would try to find a way to get a demon out of a pure innocent woman than get stabby.
"It seems a little quiet in there to you? " Dean asked, realizing how quiet it was.
Sam noticed the silence and opened the doors to the room where the auction was being held. Unfortunate, Kevin and his mother were gone along with Athena.
"Kevin?" Sam called out. "Kevin! "
"You've got to be kidding me!" Dean exclaimed, the spotted a piece of paper on a char. He picked it up. "Hey."
"What?" Sam asked watching read the note. "What's it says?"
"Uh, that they bolted, that we shouldn't come looking, and since we lost the tablet, Kevin figures we don't need him," Dean summarized.
"Yeah, but Crowley still does. What's that kid thinking?!" Sam growled.
"He thinks people I don't need anymore – they end up dead," Dean replied, with guilt.
"Dean, that – that – that's not true." Sam tried to assure him. "You know that. "
Dean paused as if he was lost in a memory. Something happened to him in purgatory that leads him to relate what Kevin commented to now.
A moment later I finally spoke, "So, are you two going tell me what the hell is going on?"
Both Sam and Dean got a lot of explaining to do.
It has been one week, and shit has hit the fan.
