Chloe had had to blink back the tears saying goodbye to her housemates. She'd miss Riley's scatterbrain and crazy quirks. "I made you this." Riley said passing her a few pictures she'd drawn of a heart filled with flowers. "You know my phone number Chloe if you ever want to talk about random shit." Riley said. There'd been a few times Chloe was stressed and she'd just watched crappy reality TV with Riley, it had been a perfect distraction and that was sometime that's what Chloe needed. "And don't worry I'll be back soon for a killer night out!"

"I'll miss you Ri, I got you a card but I can't do art so.. it'll have to do." Chloe passed her a card and Riley hugged her.

"Bye love," Hattie said "I know it doesn't mean much to you but I'll be praying for you."

"Thanks," Chloe smiled slightly they exchanged cards. Chloe would miss Hattie's calm presence and her faith in God was incredible. Chloe wasn't sure what she believed but she envied Hatties hope and peace.

"Chlo." Emma said. "Let's organise to meet up every few months and if you need me, you know where I am and I'll always be there so long as it's outside school hours."

"Same to you sweetie. Always on the end of the phone unless I'm working. I'd like to meet up, Em." Chloe said "brunch, a week Saturday? Hopefully we won't see one of your kids this time." Last time they'd went to brunch a tiny little girl ran over shouting 'Miss Herbert, Miss Herbert!' So Emma had put her kind teacher voice on to say hello to Amara.

"That would be lovely Chloe. And at least Amara is one of the sweet ones." They exchanged cards. Chloe would Miss Emma the most. She was the mum friend for sure. She'd make dinner occasionally for the whole house. One time Chloe had a stomach bug Emma had stayed up the whole night looking after her. Emma may seem so put together and calm but she had her demons too. Her boyfriend had ended up stealing all her money as well as posting pictures of her on the internet and sometimes every so often the shame hit her, there had been times Chloe had comforted her and other times she sat with Chloe and helped her stay calm. She was glad Emma would still be in Holby.

Gosh this suitcase is heavy. Evan said to Chloe as he placed it in the hallway. "It's all my textbooks and stuff." Chloe said.

"I cleared out half the wardrobe for you." Evan smiled and pulled the box of clothes into the bedroom and started to hang up the clothes. "It's okay. Let me do that. Or else I won't know where any of my stuff is. Not fun when I'm on the early shift."

After they'd unpacked they decided to watch some Netflix and Evan ordered in sushi to celebrate "is there anything you want to change, the decor, anything." Evan asked.

"No it's your home." Chloe answered.

"It's your home too now." He answered.

"And I like it, but maybe I could put a few photos up and this picture of a heart Riley painted for me." She said.

"Of course." He said "put them wherever you want." Chloe grabbed Riley's painting "it could do with a frame." She looked at the photos she brought and the only frame the right size was the pic of her and Evan so she put the picture in that frame. "Why are you covering that picture of us?" Evan asked. "It's the right size for Ri's painting, and I don't need a picture of you. You're right here!"

"That's true." Evan said and leaned in to kiss her. He looked at her other photos only a few/ one of her, mum and gran. Another of her, mum and Dom. An old one of her, Fiona, Sophie and Eilidh and a photo of her and her housemates taken just a few days ago and printed and framed by Emma, of course. "That must be Granny Sheila?" He asked

"Yes, although she's just Gran to me." Chloe smiled as she so often did when she spoke or thought of her gran. "Did you enjoy seeing her?" Evan asked.

"Yes it was so lovely, though she kept getting at me because I'd lost weight." Chloe sighed.

"Ah she's a feeder." Evan said "Like my grandmother used to be."

"Sorry?" Chloe asked

"That's what Grandmas do, they feed you up. Does your Gran always have a full biscuit tin?"

"Yes"

"Does she like baking?"

"Yes."

"Does she always make comfort food?"

"Well yes."

"See." Evan said "it's what Grans do. Give the kids a sugar rush and fill them up with fattening comfort food. My mums the same with my nephews and I bet your mum will be the same when we have kids." Evan continued.

"When we have kids?" Chloe repeated "we haven't even discussed that!"

"But surely you want children? I thought all normal women did." Evan said.

"I'm not sure, I don't know if I'm cut out to be a parent, I mean sure I was 'mummy' to a whole army of baby dolls and teddy bears when I was little." She smiled wryly "actually usually I was Gran to the plastic babies."

"Oh Chloe, I didn't think" Evan said "I get that the idea of being a parent must be terrifying to you because of how you were conceived and the fact you never had a dad, and that was hard for you." He touched her arm gently.

"It's not that. God Evan. I know my father was a rapist and I'd rather you didn't feel the need to remind me. Maybe I want kids one day, but not now. Right now I just want to focus on my career and being the best doctor I can be." Chloe snapped.

"I'm sorry Chloe." He said "I know that your father is a difficult topic for you. I'm sorry I brought it up. But if you ever want to talk, to process things."

"Evan, there are some things that I will never process. And this is one of them. I can't change my genes or who they're from. It's within me, it's who I am. Anyway please can we change the subject." Chloe said. "Is there anything good on Netflix." She didn't have the headspace for a deep chat not today. This was one of the things she loved and hated about Evan. He cared and was always there to talk but he always wanted to talk, even when she didn't need to or want to, he'd bring up things she didn't want to think about even when she was having a good day. He let her choose the movie and they snuggled on the sofa. She relaxed, it was just anxiety she would be fine here.
