Here's more moments between Angel and Faith that we didn't get to see on camera.
Angel had kept his word. He visited her as often as he could when he wasn't on the job, filling her in on his adventures with Cordy and Wes. The visits had gotten more sporadic before stopping for a time. He'd briefly stopped to explain to her how he'd fired Wes, Cordy and their team's newest member, Gunn. He'd talked about Darla being back and, as he explained their history, she understood why the big guy felt he needed to tackle this one alone. She didn't agree with it by any means, but she got it. So she understood why Angel also had to cut their visits short. He felt he needed to put Darla and Drusilla down. However, since then, radio silence. At least, until today.
Faith had had a bad feeling for a while. It'd started with dreams. Slayer dreams were normal, but these involved Buffy jumping into some weird portal. She didn't know what it meant which was worrisome.
Faith was surprised she had a visitor that day. She was less surprised once she saw that it was Angel, sitting in his black leather coat, looking as he always did.
"Well, well. He lives. Figured you dropped off the face of the Earth," Faith said.
Angel looked somber. "Sorry. Had a...lot to deal with."
Faith looked at him, A concerned look crossing her face. "Angel, what is it?"
"It's…" He looked her straight in the eye. "It's Buffy, Faith."
Faith understood what he meant the moment he said it. She couldn't believe it, not really. She knew Angel wouldn't even joke about that, but she had to ask anyway.
"Is she...I mean…"
Angel nodded. "Willow...she came by the hotel. She told us about it."
"Oh my God, Angel. I'm so sorry," Faith said. Her and B hadn't been besties in a long time, but that didn't mean Faith wanted her dead anymore. She felt something was off but didn't realize what until this moment. Oh god, B.
"I figured you deserved to know." Angel said.
"..Thanks, Angel."
Angel looked down again. "I know I haven't been great at checking in recently, but I need to go, Faith. I have to - I need to work out the grief. At least for a while. I'm going to a monastery soon."
Faith looked at him. "Look, Angel, you've been helping me through this for a while. It's your turn to take care of yourself now, man. I get it. Buffy was the love of your life. You deserve to take a minute."
"I just - I need you to know I'm not abandoning you," Angel said. The way he looked at her, it made it seem as though he wasn't fully looking at her, or at least, not just her.
Faith couldn't friggin believe it. Here Angel was, supercharged with grief, and he still took the time to check on her. However, the way he was looking at her spoke volumes to how he was feeling.
"Angel, I'm not gonna lie to you. This B thing took me off guard, but I get it. Don't worry about me." She took a deep breath. "You do know that you didn't abandon her, right?" She knew that was a loaded question, but she also knew Angel wouldn't get very far in his grief if he bottled it up.
Angel looked up at her, a pained look on his face. "I wasn't there, Faith. I wasn't even in LA. I couldn't go to her, couldn't help her. I just...I wasn't in her life when she died."
Faith leaned in closer to the glass. "And neither was I, Angel. I was locked up in here when she died. I...I think I dreamt it. I couldn't do anything about it, but Angel, Buffy wouldn't want you to blame yourself for this. She would want you to keep on keeping on. Help the helpless. We owe it to her to not give up while we're ahead."
Angel looked at her, and for the first time since he came to visit, he smiled. "I thought I was supposed to be giving the sage advice."
"Let's just call it an off day," Faith said. "If we're relying on me, of all people, to be the wise one, we're screwed."
Angel shook his head. "I don't know. I think we'd be in safe hands."
Faith smiled. Maybe prison was working for her after all.
It always bothered me that we never knew if Faith was ever actually told that Buffy died, so her and Angel sharing in their grief made sense.
