France, 1943
Bones stood in a doorway, darkness and his black pants and wool trench coat helping to conceal him. He was hungry, and his dinner was approaching.
A uniformed SS soldier strolled towards him, unaware he was not alone. He was nearly close enough for Bones to green-eye when someone shouted in German, and then someone else--a woman, Bones realized--screamed.
The soldier who would have been Bones' supper veered off course and disappeared into an ally, shouting back. "Why are you doing that here?" He demanded.
Bones heard the feminine scream again and sighed before he headed off in the same direction.
Bones crept up behind the SS agents. There were two more besides the one he had been waiting for, and after a scuffle had one doubling in pain from an apparently well placed kick to his groin, Bones also saw the woman.
His fangs were out in an instant. He seized the one closest to him and bit deeply, not caring to temper his bite. None of these men would leave this ally alive and the faster, the better to mitigate the number of witnesses he would have to green-eye.
Blood rushed into his mouth so fast that he was glad he didn't need to breathe, and when it slowed Bones dropped him and turned to the man who held a knife to the woman's throat.
The soldier began to curse in German but he'd gotten only a word or two before Bones was biting him as well, swallowing the arterial spray.
The soldier that had been kicked was on his feet, gun pointed at Bones, when he dropped the second man.
"Come on, mate. I dare you."
The guard fired once before Bones reached him, taking his throat out as well. He didn't drink as much from him, instead letting him drop after the initial sprays ceased.
"Bloody fucking hell, I hate getting shot," he grumbled, looking at his shoulder. The bullet had gone straight through, and the wound began to close quickly, his power bolstered by the full meal he had just drank.
Then Bones looked at the woman on the ground.
Her dark eyes were huge as she looked at him, and he could hear her heart thundering. "Vampire," she said, then passed out.
