Chapter 16
As their mother told them in great detail about that moment, where she had finally revealed to their father that she was pregnant the twins listened very closely to every word of her. Somehow Luke and Leia knew deep down, that remembering this moment had to send her in her some kind of dilemma on one side she thought that her children had the right to know it but on the other side it was surely bittersweet because it was one of the very few happy moments that she remembered. Finally Leia was the first one to speak after Padme had finished her little story about their father, that they unfortunately didn't have the opportunity to get to know: "I can only imagine what a wonderful moment this must have been for the both of you."
That statement from her daughter really made her get lost in her own thoughts about the question, how a peaceful life with Anakin and the twins could have been like if things hadn't turned out in the bad way they did and because of that she had to fight the urge to cry very hard. But in the end it was no use to think about all the numerous "what ifs", she could only be happy that Anakin was finally able to realize that he had to stop the Emperor before he would lose his son also.
Luke didn't really know what to say about the whole story about his father, but one or another he couldn't help but ask himself how things would have been if their father would still be with them: They would have been a happy family but he quickly put this thought to rest as he didn't want to hold onto the past anymore and focus on the time that lay ahead of them. Then after taking some time to think about what to say next he finally said: "I have to agree with Leia on this one and thank you for telling that story to us. "
Padme did her best to keep up her strength in front the twins, because talking about their father was still such a difficult topic to talk about, she still kind of remembered how horrible things had ended between them like it had taken place just yesterday and not a couple of years ago in reality. Of course her children would have so many questions about their father and the other side she also had to ask herself the question: Would she want to know from them what kind of crimes her husband had committed under the orders of Palpatine? At least she could be happy that Anakin finally got rid of that man, that had used the democracy for his rise to power and she had been part in some kind of master plan even if she didn't want to it admit to herself. She had been present on the day where the Old Republic had collapsed, was able to remember the words that she had said to Senator Bail Organa on that day: "So that is how liberty dies with thunderous applause." She really hated the fact that those old uncomfortable memories were now resurfacing, but she had to live with the fact that she couldn't influence when particular thoughts would come back to light as much as she maybe would like to do that.
Master Ralkitta was still sitting in the room with them, feeling a little bit uncomfortable as he felt like he was a little intruding on their family time, on the other he was pretty happy to be able to reunite this family that had been apart for such a long time. Right now he also had to ask himself, what the future would hold for a New Jedi Order but deep down Ralkitta already had a gut feeling that the future of the Jedi were in good hands and that it maybe was time to leave his self-chosen exile on Entralla forever. Trying to change the subject Luke finally asked: "Have you thought about what you want to do in the future, maybe return to politics?"
Of course Padme appreciated it a lot at this moment that her son was trying his best to get her mind off from the painful past and rightfully so because in the end there clearly was no use on hanging onto the past and all the possible scenarios that could have been if things would have went a different way.
The future was clearly something that she was so unsure off right now and she clearly needed to make up her mind carefully about what to do in the next years. After she had done some serious thinking about what to say, she finally replied:
"Actually I don't know what I want to do exactly in the next years; I only know one thing for sure:
I want to spend as much time with you and your sister as I can and maybe I will take some kind of a position in the New Republic but my children are the one thing that matter the most right now to me."
There surely was so much lost time to make up for after all this years they had been apart, which resulted in the fact that she had missed seeing the twins growing up to two wonderful adults and she couldn't help but think if her daughter had already found her personal Mister Right, the one person that meant everything to her like her Anni had meant so much to Padme. It seemed to her like Luke had really become one great Jedi like his father had been, even if Anni surely had his dark moments where she didn't recognize him anymore.
She would definitely consider to take a position in the New Republic at some time, because now was probably the time to make a fresh start after all the corrupt Senators had been put on trial for the crimes that they had committed.
Meanwhile somewhere on the other end of the galaxy Han Solo and his good Wookie Friend Chewbacca were busy with taking a shipment of medicial supplies to Correlia, even if Corelia surely hadn't been the safest place to be as some Imperial ships had attacked some freighters in the past. Because of the recent attacks on ships in this sector nobody except Han had been willing to transport the goods to the Planet and he surely hoped that he wouldn't regret that decision any time soon.
