Chapter 31

It took quite a while before anybody of the people that were inside and outside of the house said something but then Jobal Naberrie finally managed to say: "How is this possible? I mean you're dead me, Ruwee and the rest of the family were at your funeral so I don't know who would be cruel to send such a similar looking imposter to my door!" By the end of that short outburst Padme's mother slammed the door shut again and even if Padme had known in advance that this wasn't going to be easy, the whole thing left Padme looking pretty shocked at the closed door and you could see very well how much those few words had hurt her.

Now it was definitely her turn to think: Was this just really happening? It was very hard for her to get a grip on what just had happened but on the other side she couldn't blame her mother for reacting that way because if she wanted to honest to herself she had to ask herself: How would I have reacted if the roles had been switched in this moment?

But quite more important right now was to figure out how she could get through to her mother, find the right arguments to convince her that she really was who she claimed to be. Luke and Leia hated it to feel so helpless, they wanted to give more than moral support to their mother but unfortunately they didn't know how to do that and also couldn't really imagine how she must feel like after this horrible moment. Feeling so lost and also kind of exhausted at the same time Padme let herself drop down to the Ground and as she tries very hard to find a solution to get out of this mess, two tears drop down her cheeks even if she fights very hard to keep them at bay because she always wants to keep that image of being the strong woman all the time alive no matter how hard that might be in extreme situations like this.

After thinking about what to do next she gets up again from the ground, as she has finally recollected herself and hoping for a much better outcome this time she knocks onto the door of her childhood home again and with very mixed feelings she waits for a reaction from the inside. Also hoping that it would go better this time around, Leia spontaneously laid her right hand on the back of her mother because she wanted her to know that she and Luke were there the whole time to give her some moral support in this very difficult situation.

It didn't take for Jobal Naberrie to open the door again and she wasn't pleased that the imposter still stood in front of her door but before the old woman was able to start another tirade against her Padme said: "Please listen to me before you say anything, because I understand that you don't believe that I am who I claim to be but let me proof it to you." Once she had said that out loud, she kind of already regretted because that might be easier said than done, but one way or another she had to find some way to get Jobal to trust her. Padme's mother thought about the words from the woman that looked so much liked her beloved daughter and for quite a while she was unsure of what to do now: Should she listen what the "imposter" had to say or should she chase her instead far away from her property as possible ?

Of course it was hard to believe that really her daughter was standing right in front of her at this moment but maybe the woman was indeed the person who she claimed to be, so after taking some minutes to weigh on the pros and cons she said: "Okay I'm listening." Padme had to take one deep breath before she finally said: "You know that I told you, that Mark, the son of King Veruna had been the one who dumped because of the fact that his father wanted him to do that? The truth is that I've dumped him after I discovered what of an hypocrite his dad really was and that he had been involved for a couple of years into illegal smuggling with the Trade Federation.

I wasn't able to tell anybody because Mark threatened to make mine and the lives of my family a living hell and would make sure that nobody would ever believe anything I say." Jobal was clearly shocked now and it took a while before she could get out the words: "Oh my god Padme is that really you? That has to be the biggest miracle ever!" Then the tears started to stream down her face as the realization slowly but surely dawned upon her, acting all on instinct Padme then wrapped her mother into a very tight embrace and tried her best to console her and keep her own tears at bay at the same time as she was having a hard time not to cry herself right now at this moment.

It took quite a while before Jobal was able to recollect herself but then she said: "Let's go inside and then you have to tell me everything, especially who the two persons are that accompany you." As the two went inside the big house Jobal still had such a hard time understanding this whole thing, praying that this whole thing wasn't a dream like the ones that she used to have a lot shortly after the funeral of her daughter on Naboo and seeing her now alive and well was so surreal to her to say the least. The four people finally sat down on two comfortable couches all of them weren't so sure how to progress now, so for quite a while there was an uncomfortable silence between them and just looked at each other for a couple of minutes without saying a word.

Padme then decided to say something: "Trust me I understand how this whole thing is hard to believe, I wouldn't believe one word too if I was in your place."

"I'm so happy that you're here with me again and right now it doesn't matter so much how that is possible. I just want to know who those two young people by your side are." Padme didn't knew how her mother would react to the news that those two persons were here children but after she took one deep breath she prepared herself to answer her mother's question: "Mother let me introduce Luke and Leia to you, they are my children and you never got to know them to ensure the safety of them." Jobal Naberrie was really stunned by this revelation but at the same time she was happy to be a grandmother now and with some tears threatening to make their way down her cheeks she said: "That's so…wonderful but who is the father?"
