A short story about our favorite Martian.

The fire burns all. Only two remains. The first a somber father forced to see his love and offspring die to it, forced to burry them, blaming the oath of a manhunter for having allowed him to do nothing.

The other, his brother, the martian that ended their species. An outcast, amongst both the green and the whites. His telephaty had been removed. He had created a plague that burned the mind of all who could see into them. Mars was now barren red land.

The manhunter banished him to the furthest planet in the system to make sure he couldn't harm any other being. But he was alone. A century of guarding, he gazed upon mar's blue sister planet. He felt the life from how it used to be at mars, full of hope, and chaos, internal divisions.

As the rotations continued, his interest continued to increase, especially when a foreign object entered it. Not a meteor, metal. With an infant inside. Looking upon its mind he saw it was an infant, from a doomed civilization, from far away. He let it go and waited on the barren surface.

Until his curiosity for life on the planet got the better of him and he silently entered it. His Martian abilities made him superhuman and allowed him to change his shape to a wide variety of human forms. His worst fears were confirmed, they would fear him. But he wanted to try at least.

And so he kept doing for years, helping as one of the humans. Never revealing his nature, but always alone. One day he sees the now grown extraterrestrial infant, helping them as something he never saw before, a hero. They saw him as one of their own and so did himself, and they accepted him.

J'onnz was inspired by this and changed his shape once again to a more humanoid one, and took a name that represented him, the Martian Manhunter. And he saved people. He would even find a league of beings who wanted to protect the world, like him. But he had to help bury the children of his compatriots, had to do the same to one of them and saw one of them corrupted like his brother had been. He was still alone.

After years protecting earth, even from his brother returned as despero, he heard another voice in his head, he had not felt since Mars. He came to a little ship of Martian design and investigated. His head was probed, and he knew, there was another Martian. A little white Martian girl. And as he kneeled to see her, he felt the fire stop. He wasn't alone.
