Chapter 73
On the way to the bridge, Padme and the Queen were pinned down in one corridor by a couple of Soldiers that were determined to not let them leave this ship alive. While Padme was firing at the enemy from their position, explosions kept on occuring around them as the last deflector shield generator had collapsed meanwhile but that didn't mean that the Space Pirates were willing to surrender to the Military Forces of the New Republic, they seemed to prefer to die right here on the battlefield. Meanwhile Captain Larkin had taken his place on the bridge again and he wasn't willing to leave his post, even if he had a big wound on his forehead that needed medical attention but in the end he was a man that didn't want to show his opponent any weakness that he could captitalize on.
Captain Richardson couldn't decide if he wanted to compliment his enemy on the will to fight to the death or if he should pity him for still fighting a battle he already lost at this point. Most of the enemies fighters had been destroyed by the X-Wings of the New Republic Military and because of the fact that the rest of the small enemy fighters were starting to get desperate, some of them tried to weaken the deflector shields of the New Republic Military Cruiser by flying some suicide maneuvers. Back on the Flagship of the Space Pirates, Larkin ordered one of his men to open an commucation channel to the woman that had been pinned down by his men:
„Your Majesty and Miss Naberrie, you fought very well so far but the time for games is over now! You're totally outnumbered and have nowhere to go, so put down your weapons, surrender yourselves peacefully and I may consider to spare your lives.
It's your choice, so choose wisely and I want an answer in twenty minutes." Of course Padme wasn't willing to give up, even if she had to admit that he was right but this surely wouldn't be the first situation she gets out in one piece when it seems like there's no way out.
The questioning look on the Queen's face didn't go by Padme unnoticed, as it was obvious that she was also thinking about what they should do now and she finally said:
„It's obvious that we both don't trust him one bit, but it's also clear that we can't move foreward as we are pinned down here. „There was no doubt at all that Larkin was going to kill them both, when he had no more use for them, even if he was trying his best to give them a false sense of security but there was no way that Padme let herself be outsmarted by this smug guy. In her head she now tried to remember the way they went from the ship's hangar to the Holding Area, because getting to the hangar was their only way to get ouf here before this ship would become a death trap for the both of them.
She was interrupted in her train of thoughts as the ship was rocked by a couple of eyplosions again, as the battle in space seemed to continue but the former Senator and Queen still wasn't sure who was firing at the big Space Priates Cruiser. Deep down she hoped that the distress call, which she had been able to sent right before they had been captured has reached someone from the New Republic. Not too long ago she had woken up into a whole new world, after sleeping that long inside a stasis pod and since then a lot has already happened: She had been reunited with her children Leia and Luke, those two people that she thought were also lost to her after losing Anakin to the Dark Side of Force and now she had found herself right in the middle of blaster shoot out with some dangerous space pirates.
Back at Coruscant Chancellor Mon Mothma was handed a pad with a report to still on going battle between the forces of New Republic and the Space Pirates that Captain Richardson had sent. After taking some time to go through the report, Mon Mothma couldn't help but think that the surprise attack on Naboo and the kidnapping of Queen Mairayn were either a weird coincedence or maybe part of some kind of a bigger plan, but a connection between those two events was nothing more than speculation until they were able to find some kind of evidence to proof this theory.
„Has there been any signs that Padme Naberrie and the Queen of Naboo are still alive?" Chancellor Mon Mothma asked Admiral Ackbar with a thoughtful expression on her face and he knew very well how close Chancellor Mon Mothma and Padme Naberrie had been over the last couple of years, but he also didn't want to give her any false hope.
„I'm afraid that we have nothing solid on that matter so far Chancellor, but I'm postive about getting out those two women in one piece at the very end."
Mon Mothma took one moment to look outside the big window of her office, before she turned around to face the Admiral again:
„Thank you for those kind words Admiral and keep me posted."
The Admral just nodded in response and then left the Office of the Supreme Chancellor to get back to his Command Post somewhere on the other side of the City. Meanwhile in the Jedi Temple, Luke was busy with training young jedi but through the force he was also staying connected with his sister and mother, who both still in great danger and he clearly didn't want to loose both of them.
