There were a few things Akira was aware of as she woke up. One, her head was pounding like hell. Two, she felt really cold. Three, someone was on top of her. Most likely that would be Yachiyo.
Akira opened her eyes to see Yachiyo was indeed the one on her. They smiled as she met their gaze.
"Jeez, not like you to sleep through the alarm."
She hadn't heard the alarm go off? That was a surprise. Then again, she was a little off today. Akira knew she was sick. She had been pushing herself a little too hard. And now she had to face the consequences of her actions.
Yachiyo frowned at her, "Your face is all red. Are you feeling okay?
They didn't wait for an answer and felt her forehead. It was hot.
"You're sick, aren't you? You're burning up." Yachiyo stated.
"I guess I don't feel my best..." Akira mumbled, looking away. This was unbefitting of her.
"Then you're staying in bed today. No school." Yachiyo was firm. They knew Akira was not going to accept that very easily. She was too stubborn for her own good sometimes.
"I'm sure it's nothing that bad." Akira tried to sit up, but Yachiyo pushed her back down with surprising ease.
"Yeah, no. If I could take you down that fast, you are not going to school." Yachiyo shut her down again, "You're weak right now. I don't know that I'd trust you not to fall over."
"Yachiyo, I'm fine." Akira insisted, "It's really not that bad."
"Do I need to get Michiru-senpai? I'm sure she'll give you an earful for this." Yachiyo threatened, not knowing what else to say.
Akira winced slightly as her head pounded hard, "Please don't bring her into this."
"Then you're staying in bed." Yachiyo stated again.
Akira sighed, "Fine..."
"Though, I think you should get cleaned up. You're all sweaty." Yachiyo commented, "Think you can stand?"
"I can't tell if you won't get off of me."
Yachiyo silently slid off of her and stood up. They were at least glad she had some fight in her. That meant whatever she had wasn't that bad. If she wasn't able to fight back they'd be a lot more worried about her.
Akira sat up. Her head started hurting more. She groaned slightly as she placed a hand on her head. Yachiyo frowned and hugged her. Akira leaned against them as she tried to regain herself. This was going to be tough.
"Maybe you shouldn't get up yet." Yachiyo said in worry.
"Just give me a minute."
Yachiyo wanted to offer to go and see if they could find any medicine for her, but seeing as they were practically supporting all of her weight, that didn't seem very possible. They'd have to wait for a bit.
"Why don't you lay back down?" Yachiyo suggested.
"I can do it."
Yachiyo very much doubted that. Akira was like a deadweight on their side right now. There was no way she was getting up anytime soon. Now to just get her to agree to that.
"Akira, you're killing me here. You're heavy. Please just lay down. I can't hold you up for that long." Yachiyo tried a different approach.
Akira silently laid back down. She didn't seem very thrilled by that. She just wanted to get up and go about her day. However it seemed her body did not want to cooperate with her. And she absolutely hated that fact.
Yachiyo felt her head again. It was still very hot. It seemed to be getting worse now that she was awake and moving about a bit.
"I'm going to get you some stuff. Please don't try anything stupid while I'm gone." Yachiyo stated.
Akira didn't really reply to them. She just averted her gaze. That was enough of an answer for them. She should hopefully remain in bed.
Yachiyo cupped her cheek with one hand and kissed her forehead. Then they left the room. They really hoped they wouldn't run into anyone right now.
Thankfully they were able to get what they needed without any interruptions. Unfortunately they couldn't get any medicine at the moment. That would require going to the nurse. That was too far away for now.
Yachiyo returned back to the room. They had brought water and a wet rag. For now they set it down beside the bed. Yachiyo looked over at Akira. She seemed to be nodding off.
Yachiyo brushed some hair out of her face, "Think you can drink a bit of water?"
Akira slowly pushed herself back up, leaning against the bed for support. Yachiyo opened the water bottle for her and then handed it to her. They watched, unsure if they had to help her drink it. They weren't sure how much strength she had right now.
Akira managed to drink most of the bottle. Yachiyo took it back and set it down again. They climbed onto the bed and hugged her. Akira nuzzled closer.
"You're really warm." Yachiyo commented.
"Cold..."
"You're cold? Right... that is how fevers work." Yachiyo sighed, "Why don't you lay back down?"
Akira shook her head and moved closer to Yachiyo. Yachiyo let out another sigh and pulled her closer. If that was how it was going to be, they just had to work with it.
"Yachi..."
"Yeah?"
"School... starts soon... right?"
Yachiyo glanced at the time, "Yeah. But um... the meeting..."
They always met before class in the student council room to discuss whatever needed to be discussed. That was very soon. So, they better figure out what to do.
Akira never responded to their statement. Yachiyo glanced down at her. She appeared to have either fallen asleep or was very close to that. Yachiyo rolled their eyes and instinctively pulled her closer.
Looks like they had to decide this all on their own. Considering they had her on top of them, it didn't seem very likely that they could get up. It seemed like they may have to stay here with her.
Yachiyo pulled out their phone and sent a text to Michiru. They couldn't really hide their reasons behind not attending the meeting today. They told her the truth and just hoped she'd have the decency to not scold Akira at least until she was feeling better.
Michiru didn't seem very pleased, but it wasn't like she could really do much about it. So, they were off the hook for the meeting. Now it was just a matter of seeing if Yachiyo was getting to go to school today or not. If Akira wasn't willing to let them go, they didn't want to leave her.
Yachiyo cupped her cheek and simply just left it there. Akira didn't react to it, not that Yachiyo expected her to.
Yachiyo couldn't help but think she looked a little cute. Sure, she was sick and all, but when she was like this she definitely looked cuter. Not that she wasn't at all times of the day. But Yachiyo just felt when Akira was asleep her cuteness increased.
DIVIDER--
Yachiyo definitely was not getting to class today. There was no way. Akira was still asleep and on them. They were now laying down. Yachiyo had managed that much, but Akira had ended up shifting and was pretty much on top of them again.
That was abnormal. Akira wasn't a very restless sleeper. She stayed pretty much in the same spot all night. Yachiyo was the one constantly moving about, of course, that was until they were cuddling. Then they settled down and remained still.
They had no choice in this. Not that they really minded. Sure, missing school wasn't very good, but it was one day. Akira probably needed them more anyway.
Yachiyo knew they hated being alone when not feeling their best. Probably a bit more dramatic than most, but still. They just assumed Akira might feel the same way they did, even if not to the same extent.
DIVIDER--
Yachiyo had lost track of time. They didn't know how long it had been anymore. Not like it meant much to them. They were still quite stuck.
Akira finally stirred. She let out a groan and rubbed the side of her head. Her headache was still there and bad. Yachiyo frowned and kissed her on the head again.
Akira looked at them. She realized that she was trapping them and moved off. Yachiyo rolled onto their side and smiled at her.
"How are you feeling?" They asked.
"A bit better... but my head hurts more..." Akira grumbled, displeased by her current situation still.
"You'd have to go to the nurse for medicine. I'm sorry I can't really help you with that."
"What time is it?"
Yachiyo looked at the clock, "Hmm... almost one-thirty."
"Can't even ask anyone else to get something..."
"Not yet. I can text them for after class if you want." Yachiyo offered.
"Sure."
Yachiyo did just that. While they were occupied, Akira slowly sat up. Her vision swam slightly, but she was able to get it under control. She tried to comb back her hair as it was all over the place right now.
"Do you think you can eat anything?" Yachiyo asked.
"I can try." Akira replied.
She didn't feel very hungry, but she knew she should try and get something in her. Maybe it would help with the headache and lightheadedness?
"Then you don't mind if I quick go get something?"
"No."
Yachiyo got up, "Do you even think you can get up?"
"I don't know..." Akira admitted, "I feel dizzy if I move around too much."
"Hopefully some food will help."
Yachiyo left the room and went to make something. They weren't sure what exactly to make. At least no other students were around.
They knew soup was probably an easy thing to do. So, they made some. They didn't fill the bowl up that much. Partly because they weren't sure how much Akira would eat, and partly because they didn't trust themselves to carry it if it was too full.
Within ten minutes, they returned to the room with the soup and another bottle of water. They carefully placed the tray down on the bed.
"Here. Eat as much as you can. And try to drink all the water." Yachiyo said.
"Okay..."
Akira ate pretty slow. Yachiyo wasn't surprised. They sat down on the bed and patiently waited. They were hungry too, but that could wait. Their main focus should be on Akira.
Akira did eat all the soup, which was good. It hadn't been that much, though. But it should be enough for now.
"Do you want any more or are you good?" Yachiyo asked.
"I'm fine."
"So... um... anything else you need?"
"I'd like to try and get up."
"Okay. Just go slow, please."
Yachiyo got back up. Akira was slow as she moved to the side of the bed. It took a few minutes, but she did stand up this time. Her head still hurt a lot, but she didn't feel as bad as earlier.
"So, what do you want to do?" Yachiyo asked.
"Get a bath."
"Do you need me to help or do you want to be alone?"
"You can come with me."
"Okay."
DIVIDER--
Akira had to admit she definitely felt a lot better after getting clean. Her fever seemed to have gone down a bit from this morning. That was good. She still would have to take it easy for a few extra days, but at least she didn't feel that bad now. If only her head would stop pounding like it was.
The two of them were now back in Akira's room. Akira was laying down on the bed while Yachiyo was sitting beside her.
"Yachi?"
"Hmm?"
"Are you worried I'll get you sick?"
Yachiyo had not even thought of that the entire day. They had just been worried about making sure Akira was taken care of.
"No. If it happens, then oh well." Yachiyo shrugged, "You better take good care of me if that happens, though."
Akira laughed slightly, "Of course, Yachi."
Yachiyo hummed, "This is the most I've ever had you use my nickname."
Akira shrugged, "I don't know why. I just feel like calling you that today. Maybe since we're alone and no one can bother us?"
"Perhaps."
"So..." Akira was out of things to talk about.
"If you want to go back to bed you can. It's best you rest as much as you can, after all." Yachiyo said.
Akira looked like she was about to say something, but stopped. She looked to be getting nervous over something. That was unusual.
"What's up?" Yachiyo laid down and looked at her.
"Can... can we... cuddle?" Akira's face was turning red, and this time not because she's sick.
Yachiyo couldn't help but giggle a bit, "Aww... how cute~ Of course we can cuddle, Akiki~"
Yachiyo was not missing this opportunity to tease her. The moments where Akira was embarrassed were extremely rare. But, since she was sick, Yachiyo wasn't going to tease her that much.
With that, Yachiyo pulled her into a hug. Akira relaxed into their embrace. She was content now. This situation was very welcome.
"Love you, Yachi..."
"I love you too, Akira."
It wasn't long before Akira fell asleep again. This fever was draining her energy quite fast. She really didn't have the ability to do much right now.
Yachiyo felt her forehead again. It wasn't as hot anymore. That was good. Her fever was finally starting to go down a bit.
DIVIDER--
"Can I come in?"
"Sure."
Once class ended, Michiru came to visit them. She had brought some medicine up as well since Yachiyo had asked her to.
Yachiyo was sitting up again. Akira was still asleep. She was resting her head on Yachiyo's lap.
"Well, you certainly look cozy." Michiru snorted, "Anyway, here's the pills. Need anything else?"
"No. I think we're good." Yachiyo replied.
They set the pills to the side. Michiru stayed for a bit. She looked at Akira for a while. It was very uncommon to see her sick.
"How is she?" Michiru asked.
Yachiyo started brushing Akira's hair, "Better. She still will need a few days, but she's definitely better than this morning."
"That's good. Has she been any trouble?"
"She tried to be but she couldn't really do much." Yachiyo replied.
"Well, if you don't need anything else from me, I'll be going."
"Um... thank you, Michiru-senpai."
Michiru smiled at them, "No problem."
Michiru left the room after that. Yachiyo debated on what to do. Did they wake her up? Let her sleep?
It was probably best to just let her sleep. She would need as much rest as possible. The medicine could wait until she woke up. After all, it wasn't bothering her while she was asleep.
DIVIDER--
The scent of food stirred Akira. She opened her eyes and looked around. She sat up. Yachiyo hugged her again.
"Hey..." Yachiyo smiled at her, "How do you feel? Michiru-senpai brought medicine if you need it still."
"I'm alright." Even though she said that, it was obvious she still was in some pain.
"Do you want the medicine?" Yachiyo asked as they brushed away the hair that had fallen in Akira's face.
"I guess..." Akira didn't want to admit she still was in pain.
"Here." Yachiyo handed them to her and a new bottle of water.
Akira took them without any complaint. Hopefully they would help her pretty fast.
"Shiori was sweet enough to bring up dinner for us. You ready to eat?"
Akira nodded slightly, "Yeah."
Yachiyo moved the trays onto the bed. They waited until Akira started eating before they touched their food.
"So... anything you want to talk about?" Yachiyo asked. It was a little too quiet.
"No."
"Alright."
They ate on in silence. Yachiyo kept glancing over at Akira, just making sure she was fine. They knew she didn't like admitting she wasn't feeling well. They had to keep a close eye on her then.
"I love you." Yachiyo said.
Akira gave them a confused glance, "I love you too?"
"It's too quiet. There has to be something to talk about." Yachiyo complained.
"There's nothing I want to talk about."
Yachiyo pouted, "Really?"
"You can talk about whatever you want."
"But I want you to talk. I always start the conversations!" Yachiyo complained.
Akira really didn't have anything to talk about. She tried to think of a topic but nothing was coming to mind. Well, except for the stuff she didn't want to discuss right now. But, if Yachiyo insisted.
"You aren't letting me go to school tomorrow still, are you?" Akira questioned.
"No. Not unless you really feel better, but I doubt that will happen." Yachiyo replied.
"You'll be going to class tomorrow, right?"
"Unless you need me to stay I think I have to. Michiru-senpai didn't seem too happy that I missed class too..."
"Why?"
"I'm not sure, but she didn't like having to get my work too." Yachiyo replied, "I don't see why she didn't just make Mei Fan get it, but..."
"Is there a lot of work?"
"Not really."
DIVIDER--
Yachiyo was finally out of the room for once. Akira insisted they go out for a bit. They couldn't argue with her about that.
"Hey, Yachiyo. How are you doing?"
"Good. Just a bit tired."
They had come to the living room, where Mei Fan and Shiori happened to be. Michiru had been there but had run off for a bit.
"How's Akira-san?"
"Better."
"She forced you to stay with her?"
"No." Yachiyo shook their head, "I just didn't feel like disturbing her while she was on me. I'm sure she would've let me go if I asked."
"What exactly is she sick with?" Shiori asked.
"Seems to be just a cold and a fever." Yachiyo replied, "Nothing major. She'll be fine by the end of the week."
"That's good."
"So, why aren't you with her now?" Mei Fan questioned.
"She kicked me out. Said I needed to go out for a bit since I've been with her all day." Yachiyo said.
"Not as needy as you are then, huh?" Mei Fan teased.
Yachiyo huffed, "So?"
"Just saying."
"Mei Fan-senpai, stop teasing Yachiyo-senpai." Shiori pouted, "They haven't teased you much recently. This isn't payback anymore."
It was hard to go against that, especially when Shiori was giving her that look. Yachiyo snickered.
"Fine. I won't tease them unless they do." Mei Fan promised.
"That's adorable." Yachiyo commented.
"E-eh?" Shiori looked at them with startled eyes.
"What? You got her to agree so easily. I think that's quite cute."
"And now you're teasing Shiori..." Mei Fan sighed.
"Come on. I'm just having some fun." Yachiyo stated.
DIVIDER--
As it turned to night, Yachiyo snuck away from the others and returned back to Akira. She was still in bed, her back facing Yachiyo. She actually had the covers on her this time.
As Yachiyo got closer, they saw a book on the bed. Had Akira been reading it? Well, she wasn't now. They moved the book off the bed and then climbed in beside her. They hugged her from behind.
"Yachiyo...?"
"Hey. I just wanted to check on you since it's been a few hours. Need anything?"
"No."
"You ready for bed?" Yachiyo asked.
They got a nod in reply. Yachiyo hugged her firmly for a moment, before they let go.
"You want me to stay with you?"
Another nod.
"Then just let me get ready for bed and I'll be right back."
Yachiyo exited the room and went to theirs. They changed into their pajamas and then went to the bathroom. It wasn't as late as Yachiyo normally went to bed at, but it was still late enough. Students were already in bed as it was.
Yachiyo didn't take long at all before they returned to Akira's room. Akira had moved so she would be facing Yachiyo instead of a wall. Yachiyo carefully climbed into the bed with her. They weren't sure if she was awake or not so they had to be cautious not to disturb her.
Yachiyo felt her forehead. This time, it didn't feel hot at all. That was good.
They moved closer and pulled her into a hug. Akira didn't react at all. Yachiyo kissed her on the head and then closed their eyes. Today had definitely been interesting. Hopefully tomorrow would be a lot better. Akira seemed to be improving so that was likely.
Yachiyo felt arms wrap around them. They cracked open their eyes to look. Akira was now curled up beside them. There was barely any space between the two of them.
Yachiyo smiled and tightened their hold on her. Akira still was a bit hot, but Yachiyo didn't care now. They weren't giving this up.
"Goodnight, Akira." Yachiyo whispered as they relaxed again.
Hopefully she would be herself tomorrow and this sickness would be almost gone.
