A/N: So, Kenny is AEW world champion and his heel character work has been enthralling. But, Hangman's story has been tugging at my heart strings. I really want him to join Dark Order. Anyways... thanks for all the favorites, follows, and reviews!
HURRICANE
Change
It was Wednesday, so that meant that it was AEW Dynamite day. Today was going to be a huge change for everyone working in the company. Due to the pandemic affecting the world, AEW would be airing shows from the Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida. This was the first week of the change. The Blood and Guts match that was supposed to happen tonight was now going to be postponed.
Ashley felt herself being shaken out of her sleep. She opened her eyes and saw Adam as the culprit. After last week, the two had been growing a lot closer. On their days off they exchanged a fair amount of phone calls and text messages. They decided to share a hotel room, of course with seperate beds.
"Adam, go away!" Ashley whined.
"Sorry, Princess, it's time to rise and shine." Adam took the covers off of Ashley. He laughed when she shot him daggers.
"I don't like you very much right now."
"You don't have to. I just want to make sure you're up and ready to go on time."
Ashley grabbed her phone and saw it was only 9:00am. "It's still early. Let me get another hour of beauty sleep please."
"I guess I'll go get breakfast without you if you rather sleep."
"Works for me." Ashley pulled the covers over her head. "Enjoy your breakfast."
"Enjoy your sleep," Adam responded. Ashley stuck her thumb out from under the covers to give him a thumbs up.
Adam grabbed the keycard to their hotel room and put it in the back pocket of his denim jeans. He also grabbed his face mask and put it on. He gave a once over in Ashley's direction and chuckled to himself before exiting the hotel room.
He went to the hotel lobby and looked around to see what he could grab to eat. There wasn't much to choose from considering the crisis the world was facing. Right now, hotels were having guests self-serve. So, he grabbed some cereal, fruit, milk, and orange juice. That should be enough to feed him and Ashley.
Adam went back to their hotel room. With his hands full, he managed to get out the keycard and unlock the door successfully. When he entered, he saw Ashley sitting up on the bed, playing on her phone.
"I thought you were going to go back to sleep?" He asked, laying the items on the table.
"I changed my mind."
Hangman nodded. "So, there wasn't much to choose from. I hope you're okay with cereal and fruit."
"You got breakfast for me too?" Ashley pointed to herself.
"Yeah."
"Thank you. That was very sweet of you." She got off the bed and hugged him. She looked at the items on the table. She would settle for some Frosted Flakes and a banana. She grabbed a thing of milk to pour in her cereal. She sat back down on her bed to eat her breakfast.
Adam grabbed the Fruit Loops and milk to pour into the cereal. He joined Ashley on her bed to eat his breakfast. They sat in a companionable silence as they ate.
"So," Ashley started. "Are we going to hang out again tonight?"
"For sure."
"Cool."
"Today might be the last day we see each other for a while," Adam said.
"Why?"
"Because after tonight, I'm planning on staying at home for the time being."
"Oh," Ashley frowned. "I can't say I blame you."
"I know we just started kind of seeing each other, but we can talk on the phone, send text messages, and even facetime."
"I know, but I was really starting to enjoy your presence." She gave him a sad smile. It sucked knowing that Adam wouldn't be around for who knows how long especially when things were somewhat blossoming between the two of them.
"Hey, Ash." Matt tapped his sister on the shoulder. He took notice of the gloomy vibe she was giving off. "What's wrong?" He took a seat beside her at the table in catering.
"I'm just bummed." She sighed and cupped her face with her hands.
"About what?"
"Nick isn't going to be around for awhile and then to add to that: Adam says that he's going to stay at home for awhile."
"I hate to tell you this, Sis, but I am going to stay at home too. You can always stay at home too."
"I know I can, but I still want to be here."
"You sure?" Matt wondered.
"I'm sure," Ashley nodded. "It's just going to suck not having my three favorite guys around."
"I know that you and Hangman have just started whatever it is you two have going on, but you have different ways to keep in touch with him. Same with Nick and I."
"You're right."
"Kenny will be around," Matt added. "He'll be someone you know you can talk to."
Like Kenny would want anything to do with her. He only puts up with her because she's the baby sister of Matt and Nick. He wouldn't even pass her a second glance if she didn't have the connection to the two members of the Elite. "Right..." was all she said in response.
"If you want to continue attending shows…. I'll talk to TK and Kenny and see what you can do."
"Ummm...wrestle?" Ashley raised her hands. "I have been training, I want to show off what I can do in the ring."
"That decision is ultimately up to Kenny, but I can talk to him."
"I appreciate that."
"No problem. I'll see you later, Sis." Matt ruffled Ashley's hair before he disappeared down the hallway to go to talk to whomever it was he needed to.
Ashley was sitting down at the makeup station getting her hair and makeup done when an unexpected guest appeared that she saw through the mirror. "I talked with Matt and TK. We came up for something for you to do on the show."
"What's that?"
"You can manage me and you can wrestle from time to time," Kenny replied. "How do you feel about that?"
Ashley was taken back by the first thing Kenny had mentioned. "Manage you? Are you okay with that?"
"Yeah. It was my idea.""
"Seriously?" Ashley's eyebrows furrowed as she questioned the man standing behind her.
"Seriously," The Cleaner repeated. "You're aligned with the Elite because of Matt and Nick and sense were in the middle of the Elite unity storyline, it would make sense for you to accompany me to ringside if we're the only two Elite members on the roster since Matt, Nick, and Hangman are going to be out. I'm got the clearance to compete next week, so you can start accompanying me then. Sound good?"
"I mean if you're cool with it; then so am I. That sounds good to me."
Kenny nodded. "Good deal. I'm going to go talk to Matt and TK and let them know what the deal is. I'll talk to you later."
Ashley let out a breath. She couldn't believe that she would be managing Kenny Omega. That would be a good way to spend her time onscreen. And she would be able to wrestle too. Maybe working during the pandemic did have some pros.
Ashley had just changed into the attire for the evening. She changed into a leopard print long sleeved crop top, black leather shorts, and black suede heeled thigh-high boots. It went well with her curly blonde hair, brown eye makeup, and brown matte lipstick.
"Hey, Penelope," Ashley greeted when she saw the Superbad girl out of the corner of her eye.
"Hey, girl." Penelope responded, giving Ashley a once over. "Your hair, makeup, and outfit is on point tonight."
"Thank you."
"So, there have been continued rumors of a certain you and a certain someone."
Ashley hummed. "What are the rumors this time?"
"Someone said they saw you and Hangman enter the same hotel room last night. Luggage in tow and everything. Is that true?"
Ashley merely nodded. "It's true."
"Is there something going on between you and him?"
"Things have been blossoming between Adam and I within the last week. We have been getting a lot closer."
Penelope squealed, jumping up and down in excitement. "That's great! Everyone has been talking about how you and Hangman would make such an adorable couple. I even told you last week that you two would be such a good-looking couple."
"Penelope, Hangman and I aren't a couple," Ashley stated. "We're not official."
"Regardless of your status with Hangman: you two are so good for each other." Penelope laid a hand on Ashley's shoulder. "Ever since he decided to sort of separate himself from the Elite, I haven't seen him go out of his way to hang out with someone until you showed up." Penelope let go of Ashley's shoulder.
Ashley stood there for a few moments, thinking about what Penelope just told her.
Tonight's show was over and done with. The first AEW show of the covid-19 era went without a hitch. Hangman Adam Page, Matt Jackson, and Cody Rhodes went against Jake Hager, Santana, and Ortiz in the main event in which the Inner Circle members won. Chris Jericho was on commentary for that match and Kenny Omega and Ashley Jackson were ringside cheering on the Elite.
Ashley was walking out with Kenny, Matt, and Hangman with her luggage in tow. She would be riding with Adam back to the hotel. The four of them exited Daily's place and walked into the parking lot. It was a chilly March night in Jacksonville. Good thing Ashley had on her gray Victoria's secret hoodie to keep her warm.
Adam went ahead towards the vehicle he and Ashley were riding back to the hotel. He did give Kenny and Matt a nod. He and Kenny were on good terms because they were the tag team champions, but he and Matt still had some animosity, but he wanted to be nice considering his status with Matt's baby sister.
"Alright, Sis, I'll see you later. Be safe." Matt gave Ashley a hug. He put his belongings in the black SUV he was riding with Kenny back to the hotel before getting into the right side back seat.
Kenny put his belongings in the back seat before focusing his attention on Ashley. "I'll see you next week. It's going to be fun having you as my manager."
"I'm looking forward to it," Ashley smiled. She waved to Kenny as he entered the left side back seat. She walked to the vehicle she would be riding back to the hotel with Adam in. He was leaning against the vehicle. "Sorry it took so long."
"No worries." Hangman put Ashley's belongings into the backseat of the vehicle. "I know you're close to them." The two of them got into the vehicle, put on their seatbelts, and Adam started the vehicle and put it in drive.
"Well, yeah, because Matt is my brother," Ashley pointed out. "But, I'm not that close to Kenny. He only tolerates me because I'm Matt and Nick's little sister. I wonder how it's going to work out when I start managing him."
Adam looked over at Ashley, an unreadable expression on his handsome face. "You're going to start managing Kenny?"
"Yeah. It'll give me something to do while I attend the shows. It was Kenny's idea."
"I'm just surprised that he's letting someone accompany him to ringside. Usually it's only Matt and Nick and that's for his huge matchups."
Ashley nodded. "Right? I was shocked."
"He'll be very lucky to have you in his corner."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
"I'm kind of nervous to be honest."
"Why?" Adam wondered. "You've managed Matt and Nick. You're a great cheerleader to have at ringside."
"I appreciate that," Ashley giggled. "But, that's just it. Matt and Nick are my brothers. I'm going to be accompanying Kenny to ringside, that's a pretty big deal."
"Like I said: Kenny will be lucky to have you at ringside."
Ashley smiled and nodded. She decided to change the topic to something that has been weighing on her mind ever since she talked to Penelope. "So, you've basically isolated yourself from the Elite. Why are you hanging out with me when I'm the younger sister of Matt Jackson, whom you have some animosity with?"
Adam sat there for a minute, going over the question Ashley just asked him. He was kind of taken aback. "I like you. Plain and simple. I can't remember the last time I asked someone to go out with me after a show."
"I'm absolutely flattered," Ashley blushed. "I like you too."
"Even though I won't be at the shows for awhile, I hope we can stay in contact with each other often."
"For sure."
"Anyways… What do you want to do when we get to the hotel?"
"I know you're probably going to drink your whiskey, so I'm probably just going to drink some good ole ," Ashley answered with a laugh.
They arrived at the hotel, so Adam pulled into the parking lot and parked the vehicle. He and Ashley got out of the vehicle. Before he got their belongings out of the backseat, he gently pushed Ashley against the door of the vehicle and placed his lips onto hers. She responded, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Sorry. I hoped that was okay," Adam breathed. "I wanted to do that since we won't be seeing each other for who knows how long."
"That was totally okay." Ashley felt her lips tingle after that amazing kiss with Hangman. She really despised more now than ever that she wouldn't be seeing him every week because the man was one heck of a kisser and she would miss having him to hang around.
