Chapter 80
In a short meeting Leia and Mon Mothma both had decided to launch a couple of X-Wing fighters to serve as their security escort in this dangerous region of space, as both of them knew very well that they needed to be ready all the time for an attack from some of the criminal elements that called this region of space their home. Meanwhile back on the still damaged New Republic Transport Ship, those people that were fit enough helped with doing some repairs of important systems while the other half was busy with helping the injured persons with the little of medical supplies, which they had been able to find on board of the ship.
After putting a steel plate back in its place, the heavily bandaged crewman that sat on the pilot seat said as he turned to the present Captain Marks:
"The Impulse Engines are back to full capacity Sir and even if the repairs on the Hyperdrive Engine is still in progress, we can at least say that we're not sitting ducks anymore." Of course, Crewman Peters knew that this was no reason to break out into big cheers but on the other side, when they looked how bad their situation right now was: They needed all the good news they could at this moment, so that they could a little glimmer of hope alive at least. Marks took a moment to look around the small transport ship, looking at the a still unconscious Queen of Naboo and all of the other persons that were heavily bandaged because of the injuries that they had suffered as a result of the huge shockwave, which had hit the ship after the explosion of the Space Pirates Flagship.
It might not look like there's a way out of this mess, but deep down I know that we will able to pull through this whole thing together at the end, one way or another.!
"That's a good thing to hear and I think I speak for everyone, when I say that we need to keep thinking positive in this difficult situation, no matter how hard that might be to do because I know for sure that help is on the way and meanwhile we need to do our best to stay alive on our own till the help gets here.!"
Padme was impressed by the short speech from Captain Marks, so she began to applaud him for the courage that he was showing at this point and one by one the other people on board of the ship joined her in this great show of support for their commanding officer, who was doing his best to boost up the moral just a little bit as they all knew deep down that they had really needed that motivational speech. But as there was still so much work to do at this point, with other also important systems like the Deflector Shields also still being offline at the moment, everybody got back to their respective tasks. Yes, it was a good thing that the Impulse Engines were at least online again but with the Deflector Shields still not being operational it was pretty clear to everybody that their chance of survival was reaching from low to almost non- existent, as they were an easy prey for the Space Pirates.
Even if there hadn't been any change in the medical condition of Queen Mairayn, Padme was still very worried about the well being of her as she sat on the floor on the right side next to the unconscious body. She never had been the kind of person, who quickly lost hope in difficult situations like she was in right now, because she wasn't willing to give up that second chance to be able to spend time with the two children that she didn't get the opportunity to watch them grow up: Luke and his sister Leia, who both had become important persons in the newly formed Democracy and deep down she knew that Anakin would have been so proud, if he would have been able to see what great two persons his two children had become.
Fondor, Imperial Weapons Research Facility
With the help of an informant that had inserted himself into the crew of Imperial Facility, Chewie and Han had been able to fool the security systems that were supposed to prevent anybody from entering the building that didn't have any authorization to do so. Even if Chewbacca had voiced his displeasure with the role of the prisoner, the Wookie let himself be put into chains by Han, who had changed from his usual outfit into the standard Imperial Uniform as most of the soldiers under the Command of Admiral Thrawn had also been totally loyal to the Galactic Empire under Emperor Palpatine. Before they had left the Millennium Falcon behind, Han and Chewbacca had made sure to hide the ship inside the nearby forest, in case that anybody inside the Imperial Weapons Research Facility had been able to see through their little trick they had pulled.
"Ok this looks good so far I think and after the easy part there comes the part of the mission, which makes it so risky. First get inside the facility, then find a terminal to get the data about the newest superweapon designed by Admiral Thrawn's Forces and last but not least bring back this data without any problems back to our ship."
As Chewie answered with his usual howls, Han said with a small grin on his face:
"Of course, I know that this easier said than done my old friend and, in the end, it might be a difficult thing to do but not entirely impossible." With Han playing the role of the Imperial Officer and his Wookie Co- Pilot being the prisoner, the two finally made their way towards the entrance of the old Imperial Facility and Han hoped that the present personnel wouldn't ask him two many questions. Because if anybody decided to inspect him just a little bit closer, he would see very fast that he was no Imperial Officer but a smuggler that posed as one to steal data from this high- security facility.
