Chapter one: A fated encounter.

The young woman was tired, tired from running. All she ever wanted to know was the true history of the world and have friends, and her mother and the rest of Ohara paid the prize for it. Saul her friend tried to protect her from that admiral Kuzan that wanted to kill her and in the end, he still died. The parting words of Kuzan still rang through her head. He told her that he was letting Robin go since he was curious as to why Saul risked his life for her. However, Kuzan warned her that he will be the first to come after Robin if she tried anything. And she still remembered the words of Saul before he died.

"Listen, Robin, nobody is destined to be alone in this world. Someday you will find people who will stay with you until the very end. People who will fight for you and be your Nakama."

"Saul," she said. "I tried to find Nakama but in the end, they all used me."

10 years she was on run from the world government, just because she was able to read the poneglyphs. The 18-year-old girl was tired and hungry. She just escaped a pirate group that wanted to sell her out to the marines. That was almost two weeks ago. After a few more minutes of walking slowly, she gave up and collapsed. "I'm sorry Saul, I can't go on anymore." Everything began to get blurry for young woman Nico Robin.

"I guess it was never meant to be," she whispered. And she began to lose consciousness. But just before she fainted she saw a figure with a cloak coming closer. "Who is that," she said in a whisper and she blacked out.

robin slowly began to wake up, "where am I," she said. Nico Robin found herself laying on a soft mattress with a soft blanket on top of her. She looked around and saw she was in a small cabin. there was a small open window and she could see the coast and sea beyond that. There was a small fireplace that still was burning brightly. Then she heard a noise from behind the door to her left. The door slowly opened and a man her age maybe a bit younger came through.

Robin looked closely at the man, he was about 6 feet tall had black raven hair like her, and had emerald green eyes. His skin was tanned. He had a red sleeveless open vest with black shorts, and he wore wooden sandals. He also carried a plate with food on it.

"Ah, you are awake. That's good I was afraid you were never gonna wake up" the boy said while he was walking closer to the bed.

Robin got defensive immediately and she said "who are you where am I and how did I get here?"

"Easy there miss," he said. "To answer your first question my name is Alex" he smiled. "Second, you are in my cabin. and third I found you unconscious in wasteland not too far from here and carried you."

Robin looked suspicious to Alex. "Why did you help me?"

Alex shrugged, "why shouldn't I help a young woman in need? without my help, you surely would have died."

"Robin looked mad at him, maybe I wanted to die, maybe I didn't want you to save me."

Alex looked surprised, "you wanted to die? Why would you want that?"

Robin looked away in a huff. "I have no obligation to tell you," she said. Alex sighed and sat down in a chair. "No, I guess you don't." "Listen, miss, I am sorry that I saved you but I always believed that life is a precious gift. Please don't be mad."

Robin looked back at him and was about to respond but stopped. She looked at his emerald eyes and saw no deception in them. No greed no hate, only sincerity. She never saw that in other people's eyes. Nobody ever gave her such a look except Saul. She sighed but nodded.

Alex smiled "listen, miss, I am not gonna force you to stay here. You can leave whenever you like."

Robin looked surprised "I can?"

Alex nodded "but the closest town is at a harbor and that's a 3-hour walk. So you need to get your strength back so please eat."

Robin looked at the plate that was given to her. A nice looking stew with a lot of vegetables. She hesitated for a minute but after a while, the hunger gave in and she began to eat like never before. It was so good, she never tasted anything that came close to this stew.

Alex laughed "well now aren't you hungry, be careful to chew."

All it took was 5 minutes to clean the plate. The warmth of the food spread over here entire body.

"Thanks for the food."

Alex smiled, "your welcome." Alex stood up from his chair, "now miss your body still needs rest please sleep for a bit while I do the dishes."

"Wait," said Robin before Alex could leave the room.

Alex turned his head and said, "what is it miss."

Robin blushed and turned away but she still answered. "I-its R-robin" she whispers.

Alex Looked confused "what?" Robin bit her lip nervously and turned in Alex's direction. "My name is Robin."

Alex smiled, "okay miss Robin please have some rest." And he walked through the door and closed it.

Robin sat there for a while trying to understand why did she said her name to a complete stranger? Is it because he reminded her of Saul? Or was it because of the way he spoke to her? Friendly, without hate or anger in his eyes. Those green emerald eyes held only kindness. She was confused but happy in the same way. She smiled slightly and lay herself down. Maybe maybe I can stay here? No more running she laughed to herself. Or this could all be a dream? Whatever the case she was happy for now. And she fell in a deep slumber while dreaming of kind emerald eyes.

Alex was washing the dishes with a thoughtful look on his face. That young woman said she wanted to die. But why? Why would she even think of such things? Alex has always believed life was precious from a young age. Must be from growing up in a church. Alex himself never knew his parents, he was abandoned when he was just a baby. He was left at the steps of a church in the middle of the night. An old nun took him in and taught him about all the important things in life. Love, friendship, kindness, and loyalty. That nun was like a mother to him. Too bad she died 5 years ago. the woman was already believe it or not in her nineties when she found him. She died at the whopping age of 105. He still remembered the day he found her. It was a cold December morning, he found her in bed passed away in her sleep. Sure he was sad in the beginning, but the lessons she taught came in his mind.

"Listen, Alex, there may come a day I am not here anymore. But just because I am gone you don't need to be sad. Remember I will always live on with you in spirit. And as long you keep the memories of the people you love close to your heart you will be never truly alone."

With those words, the grief of losing her lessened and he buried her close to the flowerbed she always took care of. But he decided to live somewhere else. The grief of losing her was still not gone, and the church itself had still painful memories. He packed all his possessions, which wasn't much. A brown cloak his mother (the nun) always wear when she went outside. The only book his mother left behind Called the RainbowMist. And the basic necessities. after a few months searching for a new place he came about an abandoned cabin close to the shoar. It was the perfect home for him and he never regretted moving in.

After Alex was finished with washing the dishes, he went to the room where his guest laid. He slowly opened the door and looked inside. Alex smiled, she was still sleeping peacefully.

"Good," said Alex.

Alex went to the little table that was close to the window and open a secret compartment. In there laid one of his most secret possessions that his mother left him her book. He took the book closed the compartment and sat down in his chair. He got nothing better to do today, all his daily chores were done for today he could relax. He looked at his sleeping guest, she looked so cute when she slept. Huh, where did that come from? Thought Alex blushing. He shook his head. get your head out of the gutter Alex you only just met her. He gave his guest one last look and began his favorite hobby reading his mother's book.

Robin began to wake up. She still felt mattress beneath her. So it wasn't a dream? Then she heard something, a thing she has missed the most besides Saul, the scholars of Ohara, and her mother. It was the sound of turning a page and that means somebody was reading a book. She turned her head slightly to the sound. And there sitting in a chair was the guy who saved her reading a book. She looked closely at the book and saw the title. The Rainbowmist volume I. She never read that book before? She stood up from the bed and slowly walk closer.

Alex was busy reading his book when he heard stepping noises. He looked up and saw it was his houseguest.

"Ah, you are awake did you sleep well?"

Robin nodded but her eyes still lingered on the book.

Alex noticed and said, "do you like to read?"

"Yes," said Robin. "Very much so."

Alex smiled, "here you go miss Robin I already read it a dozen times."

Robin looked shocked "may I read this?"

Alex nodded yeah you can. Robin smiled a true smile since forever and took the book Alex was handing her over. "Thank you, Alex," she said smiling him a lovely smile. Robin was so happy right now. A book, she could finally read a book.

Alex blushed and rubbed his neck in a nervously way. "Sure you are welcome."

Excited, she went back to the bed. She laid down and began to read the book smiling all the way. Alex had still a light blush on his face. That was the first time miss Robin said his name and she did it with such a lovely smile too. She was really pretty when she smiled he thought dreamily. He began to shake his head. no Alex you only just met her don't think such impure thoughts you're a Christian dammit. He looked at her and saw her loving smile when she read his mother's book. Dammit, I am screwed he thought jokingly. Oh well, I think I have some more books for her upstairs in the attic. He stood up from his chair and walked to the door. Before he could open it he heard Robin called his name.

"Alex where are you going?"

He turned around and said, "oh I was going to the attic. The ones who abandoned this cabin left a lot of books there I was going to clean it up so you use it."

Robin smiled "more books."

She closed the book she was reading and stepped off the bed and began walking to Alex. She stopped a few feet before him and asked nervously "do you mind if I stay here for a bit."

Alex looked surprised, "well, of course, you can. I never said you couldn't. We will talk more about it later I'm gonna clean the attic now."

"May I come and help you?" she said smiling.

Alex lightly blushed. "Sure." And together they went to the attic to prepare it for Robin's stay.
