Nick's parents had often told him stories about Olivander's process. How he knew exact.y which Pokémon fit the would be trainers personality. They even claimed that it was magic. Nick had been waiting for this day since he graduated high school. In fact he had not been able to sleep the night before. Nick was finally going to get his starter which meant he was one step closer to his dream. So,e dreamed of becoming the best trainers in the world, but not nick Baldwin. Instead he wanted to dethrone his father as Accordia gym leader. Nick wanted to beat his father and claim the title of gym leader.
Nick watched eagerly as Olivander led him down what felt like a longer aisle than the one Viola had gone down. Nick stayed close to Olivander, the eighteen year old did not want to miss a moment. Olivander moves methopahcially as his hands started to hover over several different pokeballs. His old eyes looked at the eager brunette. "Your father is a great trainer of eevees. In fact I would argue that he is the greatest Eevee trainer we have ever seen." Nick rolled his eyes . He could already tell where this was going.
Olivander's hand hovered on an ordinary pokeball. He then seemed to talk himself out of it. Nick breathed a sigh of relief for a second. He didn't want an eevee or any of the 6 pillars of eeveelutions. He wanted something different completely. "Your mother though. She is quite intriguing.", Olivander smirked a little bit as a fond memory crossed his mind. "She's to thank for all these different eeveelutions we have now. Her discovery changed the world. Perhaps you would like one of her more popular eeveelutions. A vyeon would suit you..."
Nick's shoulders slumped. Having the same exact Pokémon as his mom would be a disaster. Perhaps Olivander was not the genius that nick had thought he was. Nick caught Olivander staring at him. "Or perhaps not. Perhaps you wish to stand out from your parents, hmmm?" Like a Noctowl, Olivander cocked his head to the side. For some reason, nick felt comfortable unburdening onto the old man. "It's just that. I want to create my own path", he sighed. Nick could never tell his parents this. "I like eeveelutions and all, but I want one that isn't common. Something that makes me stand out. I want to be something more than my parents son."
Olivander seemed to process this information. He turned back to the shelves where the pokeballs were being held. "Wanting to get out of your parents shadow is an important and a natural process." His hands hovered on a dark green pokeball as Nick's eyes widened. "Just do not get lost along the way", Olivander plucked the green ball from the shelf. The old Pokémon master stared at the ball then back at Nick. There seemed to be some hesitation in Olivander's face. Olivander stared at the green pokeball.
"Mr. Baldwin, I need you to promise me something.", Nick had only known Olivander a small amount of time, but the old man had always seemed joyous and happy. That was until he had pulled down the dark green ball. Nick just nodded, his curiosity beyond peaked. "You must show this Pokémon love and care. Some have been too scared and not strong enough to handle this type of Pokémon. But I believe that you have the ability to be special. For that you need a special Pokémon."
Olivander handed Nick the dusk ball. It was icy cold in his hands. Something was amiss. But he didn't think about that at this moment. No, he wanted to see what was so special about the Pokémon. Nick did not hesitate with the dusk ball. Afterall, he had grown up around gyms his whole life. So he knew how to operate pokeballs. Nick clicked the middle button of the dusk ball. He was eager to see what Pokémon Olivander had chosen for him.
What emerged from the dusk ball both frightened and intrigued Nick. The Pokémon floated in the air. The creatures body was all black except for dark pinkish accents along the creatures body. It's face was also black except for the pink eyes, nose, and creepy smile. The creature had a long tail that was black with pink underneath. Nick had never seen a Pokémon like the one that flared before him. The creature blinked with its pink eyes and floated towards Nick.
"Phereon!", the Pokémon called as it titled it's head at Nick. Olivander continued to watch the interaction. "This is a phereon", the old man nodded in the Pokémon's direction. Nick nodded. He was impressed with the creature. Just by going on looks alone, this Pokémon was superior to whatever Viola had gotten. Nick smiled as the Phereon twisted in the air and seemed to chuckle. This creature was cool.
"Phereon is a dual type: flying", that explained why the Phereon was floating in the air. Neither of his parents had a flying type so that made Nick standout. "And ghost.", the silence was deafening. Nick went pale white. A ghost type? Ghost types were considered to be the symbol of evil in Erseen. They were associated with death and suffering. There were horror stories about things those people that owned a ghost type did. Rumors were that ghost types forced their owners to do horrific things. Why would Olivander think that Nick would ever want a ghost type Pokémon?
"Mr. Olivander, why did you select a Ghost type for me? Weren't they used by..." Olivander placed a hand on Nick's shoulder. "My boy, the Pokémon are not evil. The trainers that controlled them did evil things. Manipulated the Pokémon and distorted them. But by itself ghost types are harmless." Olivander smiled as he watched the Phereon lick Nick's face, a sign of acceptance. "Even the great Godric Gryffindor has a ghost type Pokémon. Great trainers do great things with them."
Nick still wasn't quite sure. But he did like a challenge. Plus the Phereon was badass looking. The other part of him knew that Team Illusion those coward death eaters used ghost types religiously. What would people at Hogwarts think once Nick showed up with a ghost type? Would they think that he was a Team Illusion supporter? That sense of doubt faded away once the Phereon rubbed its head on Nick. The brunette stared at the flying and ghost type. The Phereon seemed to be begging Nick to give him a chance. Nick smiled and put a hand on the head of the Phereon. "Alright. You and me."
Meanwhile as the sisters waited for Nick to finish up with Olivander, they watched as their two Pokémon seemed to go fr9m friendly to hostile towards one another. Blaze had accidentally set a bit of Sparks' fur on fire. Sparks retaliated by sending a shock through the small spider Pokémon. It had taken Charlie, the Mr. Rime, stepping in that stopped the two Pokémon from going into a full grown brawl. Each Pokémon had went back to their respective trainers. Of course neither Alexa or Viola blamed their respective Pokémon for causing the fight. Viola held Blaze, the Pyranche, close to her chest. The fire type chattered it's pinchers in annoyance at Sparks.
"I know, I know. That stupid Volpan nearly killed you.", Viola shot Alexa a dirty look. She pointed a finger at Alexa and Sparks. "Ever since that thing evolved, you haven't been able to control him. Sparks' is an absolute menace. I thought you two were supposed to be 'connected' by now. I guess that hasn't happened yet." Viola turned back to Blaze as the fire bug crawled up into its new masters hair. Sparks and Alexa meanwhile were not happy. The Volpan held out its claw as electricity surged through it.
"Sparks and I are fine. You need to take better care of that stupid bug.", Alexa stroked Sparks' fur trying to get him to calm down. The Volpan stared at his master, begging her to let him fight. Alexa just shook her head. This was not the place. "If you think that you can just snap your fingers and connect with a Pokémon than you are dumber than I thought. You should just give that crazy spider back to Olivander." Alexa stuck her nose up at Viola. "You'll never have that special connection with your Pokémon if you think that connecting is so easy." Sparks nodded in agreement.
Viola stared at her sister. A look that even gave Charlie the chills. Her blue eyes seemed to glisten in anger at her sister. "Mom had a special connection with her Pokémon too." Blaze and Charlie did not know what that meant, but both shivered. Blaze digging deeper into the blonde's hair. Charlie ducked behind the desk. Alexa meanwhile stood up. Her eyes trained directly on her sister. Sparks had jumped in between the two sisters. He sensed that his trainer wanted to attack her sister. That was not what Sparks' wanted to happen. Alexa had taught him better than that.
Alexa picked Sparks up as she made her way towards her sister. Viola, not one to backdown from Alexa, got up. The sisters getting nose to nose to one another. Viola had to stand on her tippy toes to get to eye level with Alexa. "I am nothing like that woman! Don't you ever say I am anything like her!", Alexa pushes her finger into her younger sister's chest. Viola smirked knowing that it hit a nerve.
"Mom had a temper too.", the blonde continued to provoke her sister. Viola smirked as she prepared for her sister to attack. Alexa clenched her fist and started to raise it. She was prepared to strike her sister. She cocked her hand back ready to unleash all of her anger on her sister. This had been coming for a long time for Alexa. Viola needed a good beating and Alexa would give it too her.
"Ahem.", Alexa turned around to see Nick and Olivander standing in the waiting area as well. A black and pinkish with a creepy smile floated next to Nick. The Pokémon seemed to chuckle at the chaos before it. Alexa gave a side eye to Viola, who stuck her tongue out at her sister. Alexa and Viola moved a bit closer to inspect the newest Pokémon. Viola had a strange look on her face as the Phereon floated in front of her.
"Uh, Nick. This thing has a creepy smile on its face.", Viola held a hand up to try and cover Blaze's eyes. She didn't want her precious Blaze to see the creature. Alexa meanwhile smirked as she looked at the creature. She had never seen anything like it. She thought Sparks looked cool, but what floated before her was the coolest looking Pokémon she had ever come across. In all her years at Hogwarts, she had seen some badass creatures. This one seemed to take the cake. "I think this thing is fucking awesome.", she shot Nick a sultry smile. Nick blushed at the compliment.
"Did you name it yet?", the Phereon was now twisting in the air which brought a chuckle from Alexa. Even Viola had to laugh. Nick looked at Olivander who nodded at Nick. Nick was nervous as he was afraid the name would give away the fact that part of his new Pokémon was ghost type. But it was a name that suited the Pokémon perfectly even if he didn't know if it was a boy or girl. "Hamlet. Named for one of my favorite plays.", yes the fact that the play centered around revenge caused by a ghost seemed to fit the Phereon perfectly. Hamlet had seemed overjoyed at the name selection. Sure nick could have gone for something more badass, but that would have been stereotypical.
Alexa nodded. As Viola shook her head. "You should have gone with Chuckles for that creepy ass smile on its face.", suddenly Hamlet moved face to face with the blonde. Viola screamed and jumped backward and fell straight on her ass. This brought a smile to Alexa's and Sparks' faces. "Hamlet you and I are going to get on just swimmingly."
While it was fun and games at Olivander's there was another part to Diagon Alley. One that had been abaondes for years by the regular public. No one dared to go down Knockturn Alley except for the criminals. Since the Great Pokemon War, knockturn had essentially been condemned. The former base of operations for the evil death eaters known as Team Illusion had long been cut off from the rest of diagon alley. In fact a wall has been constructed cutting off knockturn from diagon. It was thought that no one could enter or leave. Though no one was supposed to have been there.
That's why it was a strange sight to see Borgin and Burke's with its lights on again. The former hotel/headquarters of team illusion had been long been forgotten. The owner, Francis Borgin, had been sent to Azakaban. Borgin had been a supporter of Team Illusion and its leader. Now he served his time in prison. His hotel had been unkept since his imprisonment. Many had wanted that, along with the rest of Knockturn Alley, completely leveled. But here the building stood still. And it appeared someone was using it.
A Banette stood guard in front of the doors of the hotel of horrors. A man, fully cloaked, walked passed. He carried a briefcase. A pyramid shaped Pokémon floated next to him. The banette nodded as the man slipped in. The old hotel was in desperate need of fixing up. The walls were battered and the floors were tattered. There was no way that anyone could live there. Which made what this man was about to do make perfect sense. The man set down his briefcase and opened it. Something dark darted out like a shadow.
"Welcome home My Lord", the man said as the shape of a darkrai formed against the walls.
So Nick has received his Pokémon. You, my dear reader, learned that ghost types as viewed as "evil." I know dark types are usually evil, but I thought ghost types suited the story better.
We were also introduced to the "evil" Pokémon team and what you can guess is the villain(s) in this story.
