Reviews
Boris Yeltsin: Well it's the same as it has been for the past three stories which you've read and reviewed and in terms of Walking Dead it's just the walkers, anyway, thanks :)
Wolfgirl2013: Thanks :)
Jadey97: Thanks, glad you liked it.
Now onto the story.
Disclaimer: I don't own Walking Dead, This War of Mine or their characters.
Episode 1 – Part 2
Shambling along the edge of the tree line, the Walker growled to itself, unaware of the figure closing in behind it. With a snarl it fell to the ground, knocked down and then, suddenly it jerks and went still as the figure drove a knife into its skull before withdrawing it and standing up. Said figure was a young man of nineteen, tall with a strong build, he had short blonde hair, green eyes and fair skin, clad in worn denim shorts, a white tank-top and black sneakers. He looked around carefully, making sure there weren't any others as an older woman, thirty one years of age with medium length black hair and blue eyes, pale skinned and slender, she wore jeans, a white blouse and black shoes, all rather worn too.
"Ansel, you…?" She began, addressing the young man.
Ansel shook his head. "I had to make sure it didn't get too close to the camp, Ana."
She sighed but nodded and helped him move the dead Walker further away before returning to the woods. Inside the woods, in a clearing not too far from the edge where the walker had been stumbling, was a small camp big enough for six people, one of whom looked and smiled upon seeing them. She was a young woman twenty-eight, of medium height with dark hair tied back in a bun, hazel eyes and fair skin, dressed in a pair of loose fitting black pants, a plain red top and black sneakers, she also had a notable bump in her stomach from her pregnancy.
"Ansel, Ana, is everything alright?" She asked, noting their expressions.
Ana nodded. "It's fine Livia. Just a walker."
The other three, all men aged between thirty and forty looked up at that, worried.
"Just one, it's dead and we moved it out of the way." Ansel confirmed. "We'll be alright for the night, but we'll have to get moving quickly in the morning."
With that he and Ana sat down, joining their companions.
They sat around the campfire, kept low to avoid drawing any attention.
"So, we'll need to keep heading in the same direction as before, right." One of the men remarked.
The oldest of the men, unofficially the leader of their group nodded. "Well, if even half of what we've heard is true, yeah. When we get out the other side of these woods, we'll hit the main road, then we'll find a sign that should point us in the right way."
Ansel sighed and shook his head. "Yeah, the right way, which is where exactly?"
"Pogoren, the capital. "The leader replied. "Remember what we've heard, there's a sanctuary there, a community, a safe place."
"And we're sure it's real?" Ana asked worriedly.
Livia sighed. "I hope it is...not just for me."
Ansel nodded. "Yeah, I know the feeling."
But it was clear that they couldn't know for sure if they really were going somewhere safe, that they were pinning their hopes on little more than rumours, but right now it was all they add. It was their biggest hope, in a world that for so long had been so devoid of hope.
"We just have to get there and hope for the best." The leader remarked. "Even if it is true, we have to be careful that we don't do anything to upset the people there, while proving to them they can trust us and that we'll be helpful to them."
Looking out at the shadows amongst the trees around them, Ansel mused on how that might be easier said than done.
After a moment of silence the leader spoke up again.
"Well, if we're gonna try and pass some time before getting rest, what's the story for you three?" He looked over at Ansel, Ana and Livia. "We've not really too much about you guys, just enough to know you're decent people…"
The trio shared a look and finally, after a pause, Ana broke the silence.
"Well, that's a fair point." She said. "I'm just...I was, a wife and a mother...But I've not seen my husband and daughter since this all started. I was with my mother in law when this all started but she...she didn't make it and until I met you guys, I've been stuck trying to stay alive, any group willing to help me tried to do so but well. You guys are the first ones to have survived."
Ansel bit his lip, hearing this. "Wow that's...I'm sorry to hear that Ana. I…I was with my parents until about a year ago, when they actually ripped my top off, whipped me and cast me out of their group."
"They what-!?" Livia gasped in horror.
Ansel shook his head, turning around and pulled up his shirt to show the scars on his back, unmistakable signs of a whipping. Fixing himself he shook his head.
"There you have it, all that, just because I'm gay." He explained.
A dark looked passed over the group at that, horrified and disgusted by his parents actions. Shaking his head Ansel turned to Livia.
Trying to change the subject he spoke to her.
"So, what about you Livia?"
Startled by his sudden switch Livia cleared her throat.
"Oh um, well...I was with my husband, Petr. We, were just staying alive, looking forward to our new arrival." She touched her stomach at that, smiling, but then it faded. "But he died, protecting me from Walkers and now...now I'm here, I just, I hope we find this place. I'm worried something might happen to the baby, or worse, that I'll have to give birth out here…"
They all grimaced, knowing what she meant. Realizing that perhaps it would be better to stop talking, due to the pain it was bringing, they ended their talk and, with one keeping watch, they turned in for the night.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
