It's Not Too Late To Say I Love You
DISCLAIMER: Kōhei Horikoshi owns the characters and the world known as Boku no Hero Academia. I also do not own anything revolving the movie "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World", which is the backdrop of this rather angst-heavy story.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: After cross-posting my Bleach story "Popcorn Chicken" to AO3, I got hit with this inspirational idea.
Twenty-one year old Izuku Midoriya was by himself in his small studio apartment in downtown Musutafu, watching the empty streets and the destruction left behind by the riots. Now it was virtually a ghost town. He was all alone. His mother Inko was with him, though, calmly sitting down at the table behind him.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!
"IZUKU!?"
Izuku's head turned to the door.
"Ochako?"
He rushed over fast and didn't care that he ripped the locks off when his quirk activated and he opened the door. There was his twenty year old best friend Ochako Uraraka. And behind her were her parents. Ochako immediately clung to him, hugging him tightly. Izuku hugs her back, surprised.
"What are you doing here?"
"I had to see you… I… I couldn't…"
"Honey, let's get inside, okay?" her father calmly asks of her.
Ochako sniffled, letting go as Izuku lets the family inside. The door was left alone, hanging off one hinge.
The three adults sat together at the table, having exchanged small pleasantries with each other.
"You're scared, too?" Mr. Uraraka asked Inko.
"I am. But I'm with my darling Izuku. There's no one else I would be with," she answers.
"If it's our last moment on Earth, we rather be with our daughter and whoever she cherishes the most aside her mama and papa," said Mrs. Uraraka.
Ochako's parents held each other for fleeting comfort. By the windows, Ochako was with Izuku, staring out. The city looked like the scene of a standard apocalypse setting: trash everywhere, broken buildings, cars, street pavement. Abandoned things everywhere, no humans in sight. All because of an asteroid that's large enough to wipe out all life on the planet steadily hurdling closer and closer. Every second, every minute, a ticking time-bomb to death.
"Izuku?"
"Yes, Ochako?"
She sighed.
"I'm so scared. I'm really, really scared…" Tears were falling down her cheeks. "I don't want to die."
Izuku felt just like her. They looked into each other's eyes. They're both crying.
"I'm scared, too," Izuku admitted to Ochako. "But… other than mom… you're the other person I want with me until the end."
"Izuku!" she cried, clinging to him again.
"Ochako… why?" He sniffled. "Why did it take to Earth's doom for us to…"
"Finally realize we were in love with each other since high school? I have no fucking clue, Izuku. I just don't fucking know!"
The parents heard their adult kids swearing, and said nothing. They were allowing it.
"Ever since the reports… even since the failed attempts… you're all I've been thinking of. Fuck!"
"I'm so sorry, Izuku… if this fucking asteroid didn't exist…"
"We'd likely still be in denial," he said darkly.
"Yeah… maybe," she whispers.
The rumbling started. It was faint.
They looked into each other's eyes before gazing out the window.
They saw it now.
Matilda.
"I'll always love you, Izuku Midoriya," Ochako finally confessed.
"And I'll always love you, Ochako Uraraka," Izuku reciprocated his feelings back to her.
They locked lips with a hard and heavy kiss, eyes closed, savoring this final moment of life together, even as their parents watched with sad eyes and heavy guilt in their hearts.
The rumbling grew louder.
When Izuku and Ochako broke their kiss, their eyes were glistened with tears.
"In the next life… let's become friends again," Izuku swears his oath to her, the woman he was in love with.
"Yeah. And in the next life… we'll become lovers much sooner," said Ochako, smiling wistfully.
Ochako's parents stepped up and each adult wrapped their arms around their daughter, hugging. Inko was behind her son, and hugs him tight. Izuku and Ochako leaned in and as their eyes closed, and their lips met for a final kiss… they heard the sound of impact.
And that's it…
… The world ended for Izuku and Ochako, just as they finally admitted their love for each other.
