Episode 4 – Part 3

Meanwhile Mara, Emilia, Britta and Marko walked, following Roman and Niko who were leading the rescue effort. They had been following the tracks as soon as they found them and based on Roman's reading of the tracks, were actually getting closer and closer.

"Well?" Niko asked as they stopped for Roman to examine more tracks.

"These people either don't care or don't realise the trail their leaving…" He remarked, shaking his head. "It's plain as day, it also looks like we're getting closer."

"Maybe it's a trap, they want us to follow them?" Mara spoke up, worried.

Roman nodded. "Well, let's be careful."

The others nodded and they emerged into the clearing and Roman gestured ahead to the warehouse where tracks ended. At once they were alert, weapons ready as they heard loud noises coming from inside.

"C'mon." Niko hissed.

They hurried towards the warehouse, Mara tensing and shifting closer to Roman, gripping her weapon tightly. Reaching the door, Niko nodded and they broke in, almost at once they were confronted by a scene of horror, several walkers chained up, one not and advancing on Arica, who was tied up, breasts exposed and gagged. She saw them and her eyes widened.

"MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!" She screamed desperately.

"Arica!" Niko cried at the sight of his wife.

He quickly acted, firing a shot at the Walker that was trying to bite her, killing it swiftly.

Emilia then gasped. "Shit...the other Walkers!"

They looked around, the other Walkers had been released and were advancing, they heard rushing footsteps, humans, fleeing. But Arica screamed into her gag again, struggling desperately.

Mara noticed and cried out. "We have to draw them away from her while someone frees her!"

"Right." Niko agreed.

With that they hurried to get to work.

As Roman lead the way dealing with the walkers, Mara and Niko hurried over to Arica. At once they fell upon the ropes, trying to untie her.

"Don't worry, We'll get you out of this." Mara said as reassuringly as she could.

Arica blushed, moaning into her gag, her mini shorts now being the only article of clothing she had that was undamaged. Soon however Mara and Niko were able to untie her and Arica desperately tried to get the tape off her mouth, Mara and Niko again helped and soon she was completely free, trying desperately to hold her torn shirt together.

"Come on, we gotta get out here, quick." Mara cried.

Niko nodded, pulling Arica close to him, relieved at being reunited with her husband, Arica held on tight and they began to follow Mara who motioned to the others that Arica was now free.

"There's...people, crazy people, they seem to...worship the Walkers I was…" Arica desperately tried to tell them.

She didn't need to say anything more, it was clear now. The footsteps they heard, the strange cultists. It now made sense what they had seen, Arica was being offered up as some ritual sacrifice

"Did you see where they went?" Mara asked uneasily.

"They ran, when you guys broke in…" Arica revealed before fainting.

Niko gasped. "Arica!"

They quickly regrouped, finishing off the Walkers while Niko did his best to cover Arica's exposed state.

Luckily Arica regained consciousness quickly, she had been overwhelmed and dehydrated, but had been given water and had calmed down, now covering herself she was comforted by the others.

Mara carefully asked. "You said they...worship the walkers?"

She knew it wasn't the best time for it, but while the incident was fresh in Arica's mind, she knew there was a better chance of finding out information.

"Yeah and said I should be honoured to be eaten." Arica confirmed.

Niko shook his head, more concerned with his wife's well-being. "We need to get out of here."

Emilia nodded. "Yeah, quickly, get going."

Mara nodded and followed Roman out, Niko supported Arica as they left next, along with Marko and Britta right behind them, all of them feeling uneasy about what Arica said. But then Britta noticed Emilia didn't seem to be following.

"Guys, Emilia...?" She said, getting their attention.

Arica looked over her shoulder worriedly. "Emilia?"

Emilia just shook her head. "Go guys, you gotta go."

"Emilia, what, come on, you can't just stay behind, you-" Mara began.

"I have to!" She cried pulling up her top slightly, showing the bite on her stomach.

Everyone froze, gasping, staring in horror at what they just realized now had happened.

Emilia shook her head.

"Just go, you guys don't have to see this. I'm never becoming one of them." She told them. "So I've only got one choice."

Everyone gave her a solemn look as they knew there was nothing they could do.

So they solemnly left the warehouse, leaving Emilia to follow her only remaining course of action. They heard the gunshot and knew it was done, Emilia had shot herself in the head, to prevent herself from turning, she was gone. Mara couldn't help but shed some tears for Emilia. Whoever those people that took Arica were, they may not have succeeding in getting her, but their actions took Emilia from them. They'd be returning to the Pogoren safe zone with one less person either way. It was therefore with a heavy heart that they made their way back home, now aware of the cult and the threat that it posed to them all.

End of chapter, so Arica has been saved, but at the cost of Emilia, things will definitely change now. Read and review please.
