Episode 4 – Part 4

The group retuned to Pogoren and as soon as they were seen by Pavle on lookout he called out to the others. At once the gates were opened, allowing them to enter. They did so, still sombre and shaken. Arica still trying to hold her shirt closed, especially as the others had begun to gather around them.

"You made it back, thank God." Marin burst out.

Pavle grinned. "You guys did it. Thank God you're back Arica.

Katia jumped in too. "Arica, what happened to you, God, did they-?"

"I…I just…" Arica grimaced.

But she was saved from any further explanation at that moment by the arrival of the kids, including Jonas.

"Mommy!"

The moment he saw her he ran. Arica managed a smile and awkwardly did her best to respond to his hug, stroking his hair.

"Hey sweetie, I'm okay, don't worry...I um, I just need to get back home, change, I…" She explained.

She didn't need to say any more, her blush and the way she was holding herself was all the confirmation the others needed. Lydia smiled and gently patted Jonas' shoulder, confirming to him that everything was alright now.

"Okay, good idea. Meanwhile...I'll fill the others in on what's going on." Niko stated.

Arica nodded but before she could get away she heard it, the part she had been dreading.

It was Zlata who noticed. "Wait...where's Emilia?"

An uneasy silence followed.

Arica let out a sigh of relief as she finally emerged from her home. She had changed into a pair of, admitted longer, denim shorts, a blue T-shirt and blue flats. She saw everyone gathered, not just the founders but everyone, and hurried over until she found Lydia and Jonas and took hold of their hands, sending a grateful look to Mara for watching them while she changed.

"I'm afraid we're facing a difficult task ahead of us." Niko was saying to the gathered crowd. "We who have found this place have found peace in it's walls, a chance to recover, a chance to be able to sleep and go about our days without constantly looking over our shoulders. We always make sure not to get complacent, to keep ourselves well trained and ready to face any Walkers. For we know they are still out there. But, we have been complacent."

He paused, allowing his words to sink in.

"We forgot that it's not just Walkers that are a threat...but there are other people too. People who do not share our vision of living and working together peacefully. People who have been driven to extremes by this crazy world." Niko continued. "Earlier today my wife Arica was kidnapped by a group just like that, a group of crazed cultists who worship the Walkers."

Startled whispers began to ripple through the crowd at Niko's words.

He looked to Arica who nodded and he continued.

"These people attacked one of our own and I have no doubt, given their intent, they will try to attack us again. They sought to feed Arica to a Walker, they had Walkers kept in a warehouse...but that was not their base, but it couldn't have been far." Niko paused and then sighed. "Thanks to them and their Walkers, although we were able to save Arica...we have lost Emilia, she was bitten and choose to do what she had to do to avoid turning."

More shocked whispering and even a few anguished cries went through the crowd.

Niko sighed. "I hate to disrupt our peace, I hate to put us in this dangerous situation. But I must ask for your help. We cannot allow this to go unavenged. We must stop them, before they attack us again, we must make them pay for what they have done. I have to know, who is with me on this?"

There was clamouring as many, almost all the community, began adding their voice to join. Those who did not were not against avenging themselves on the cult, but felt they would be unable to contribute much. Nevertheless the general consensus seemed to be that they would ready themselves, to track down and finish the cult for what they had done.
