Episode 5 – Part 1
The shock wave from the attack on Arica by this strange cult, along with the subsequent rescue and death of Emilia was still being felt by the inhabitants of Pogoren. They were already wondering what to do next, tensions were high, they were wanting justice for what had been done. Niko sighed, rubbing his face as he looked at the map before him.
"The problem is, they could be almost anywhere." He said.
As he said this he looked around at those with him, the founders, who had joined him to discuss things.
Roman shook his head. "Not quite...I saw the truck they were using, they wouldn't get a lot of mileage out of it. Not nowadays. For them to grab Arica so close to us to get her to that warehouse and to take off...must be reasonably close."
"They intercepted me here, this is where I was coming from." Arica explained, indicating on the map. "Niko, we've got to make some sort of announcement, people are getting restless."
Niko nodded. "I know and I will, I want to know exactly what we're getting into first though."
The others nodded slowly and finally, after a pause, Mara spoke up.
"So, given where they struck and what Roman said about their vehicle." She paused briefly, locking eyes with Roman, before continuing. "They would definitely be in this direction, but, how far out…?"
She indicated and, as she did so, Roman joined her.
"No further than here." He noted.
Nodding they considered, they had a range to search now, but it was still a wide area.
Looking over the map, Marko sighed. "We need to narrow it down further, find out exactly where they are. Maybe then we'll be able to figure out a good plan."
Katia nodded in agreement. "I agree, once we know where they are, we can figure out how best to approach them, finally get justice for Emilia."
"No, that isn't justice, we need to be honest here." Niko said. "We are going after them to bring them to justice, for everyone they've hurt. Hopefully we can prevent them from hurting others in the future. But for Emilia...it's vengeance, not justice."
"What, but Niko, that…?" Zlata bust out in shock.
Cveta grimaced. "It makes us sound so petty."
"No, revenge is motivation enough, at least it's honest." Niko explained. "We can go after these guys...but we must do so, honestly."
Bruno grunted. "Revenge is reason enough for me."
"I agree, we can't lie about our motives, it makes them martyrs." Britta added.
Marin thought for a moment. "We also can't forget our own place, not everyone can go and fight here, we need to keep Pogoren safe at the same time. For the kids sake, as well as those who aren't so good at fighting."
"Right. So...first things first, I'll make an announcement to everyone, let them know exactly what's going on." Niko remarked. "Then we get scouting parties formed to search the area...get copies of the map, with the area we need to search marked."
Pavle finally spoke up. "Well, I'll lead the scouts, after we find exactly where they are, we just mark it on the map and return here, right?"
"Yes." Niko confirmed. "After that, we plan our attack."
The others agreed and so things were soon underway, maps being prepared, Pavle readying himself, Niko knew now was the time and prepared to speak before the citizens.
The tension still remained thick, but expectations were high as the citizens of Pogoren gathered in the town square, all standing, listening carefully as Niko stood before them all. He took a deep breath, even after all this time, talking to so many people made him nervous, but he knew it had to be done.
"I understand, the anger and tension you all feel. I agree, the loss of Emilia, of one our own, is a devastating blow." He announced. "But we must remember, no matter how angry we are, if we lash out randomly, we become far worse than those responsible."
That brought a tense hush over the crowd.
Niko continued. "If we react immediately to this, we will just be going out and attacking people at random, people who might've otherwise joined us and helped us. We must plan our attack, not let ourselves be swept up by emotions. We must ensure we find out where this cult is hiding and then we can focus our vengeance upon them."
The clamour resumed as they finally realized what their leader had planned; many were still angry but they saw the wisdom of this plan and accepted it. They would still get their chance.
"We have a search area for the most likely location of where this cult is hiding." Niko revealed. "The scouts will be prepared to search this area, remember to be cautious when searching and be ready to report back."
The crowd continued to clamour as Niko prepared himself, already announcing the next steps and what needed to be done, much to the agreement of the others as they all saw his plan taking shape before their eyes.
Pavle and Britta made their final preparations.
"So, ready for this?" She asked.
Pavle nodded. "Always ready, let's find where these monsters are hiding and get things ready to make sure they can't hurt anyone again."
Britta gave a grim smile. "I couldn't agree more."
So together they headed out to join the other scouts and then led the way out of the community to begin their mission. The first step in their war against the cult had begun.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
