Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man had been silent and distant ever since the event that had been known as the Blackest Night, basically alien black rings had been turning corpses into Black Lanterns. The Black Lanterns took the form and memories of the corpses that they had been bonded with; he had to face the Black Lanterns of people whose deaths haunted his mind for years. Gwen Stacy and her father Captain George Stacy blaming him for their deaths when they faced him. Uncle Ben as well and even the knowledge that it wasn't really them only comforted him so much.
It was re-enacting various nightmares that he had over the years.
He was part of the alliance of Avengers and Justice League who had been temporarily became what was known as the White Lanterns to fight back Nekron who was leading the Black Lanterns. The aftermath not only stopped the Black Lanterns and Nekron but brought some of the Black Lanterns back to life.
Some heroes, some villains but among those brought back were the Stacys...
Peter had been hesitant at home in civilian clothes when they came over after tracking him down, Peter tried to comfort her as she pulled him into a hug. They tried to talk things over (with Peter still remembering them as the Black Lanterns) but then saw to his horror she had began ranting about Spider-Man, she still blamed him for her father despite his protests and what happened to her as well. She had been venting even after all he had done, he was still out there free and being treated as a hero among the Avengers.
Peter was open mouthed after she had let it all out as George tried to tell her that it wasn't like that at all, with him giving a look to Peter since he knew that Peter was Spider-Man and he wanted him to take care of her. Peter was hesitant and just wanted to explain to her about what had really happened and reveal who he was but he was wondering with her like this if she would hate him as well.
Then asked about the possibility of them starting over where they left off...
Peter always did have the guilt of what happened on his mind but he did have to move on from her death and did find someone else that he loved and loved him in return. He was dreading when Gwen would learn about this...
Peter was silent and Gwen noticed the picture of Peter with his girlfriend Diana (in civilian clothes) framed on the tables and she was stunned due to not wanting to face the idea that Peter had indeed moved on. George convinced her to leave and said they would give him some space so that they all could face what happened at their own pace...
Peter was now in costume in his personal room at the Avengers Facility and saw Diana enter the room in deep concern and wearing her Wonder Woman uniform. She got him up and went down so they were eye level.
"I know this can't be easy for you at all Peter, you already went through so much before but to have to relive all this before." Diana told him and Peter smiled at her a he went for a hug that Diana returned.
"Seeing their faces as the Black Lanterns, their words reliving some of the nightmares that they had, to hear that Gwen could still blame me for her father's death even as he came back with her... That she would blame me for her death as well..." Peter muttered as Diana hugged harder.
"Give her some time to calm down and think it over, give her space as she gives you some. Let her reflect on her own and talk to her again when you are both ready, I know that what you are feeling won't disappear anytime soon but just know that I will be there for you." Diana told him and he smiled at her.
Peter then decided to try his tried and tested method of using humour to levy the tension, "So the power of life as White Lanterns, it felt weird to me being a Lantern... I think I can live without the greater power of the White Lantern but I kind of wish that you got to keep your Star Sapphire ring. The glimpse of you like that made me think that I was in heaven..." Peter said with a small smile as Diana laughed as she hugged him closer.
At least Peter was still Peter...
Sorry for the short chapter but I am still open to suggestions via PM. Also I want to go over something I thought of before; you think Diana has the case where her arch enemy Cheetah while a threat on her own wouldn't stand as a big A-list villain like other arch enemies can. You can see Lex Luthor and the Joker at certain times pull off big schemes that could threaten the world. Sinestro has become a big threat ever since the Sinestro Corps was founded and Reverse Flash managed to step up his game since Flashpoint and the TV series. Flash's other arch enemy Grodd can count as a general DC villain now. You wouldn't see Cheetah like leading the Secret Society of Super Villains or something (then again they had Icicle as a big threat leading the Injustice Society in the Stargirl show so who knows).
