SUMMARY
Overall semi-pleased with how the story plays out. My main criticisms start with the use of the Resident Evil back drop as almost a throw away concept; I could've used pretty much any zombie-apocalypse universe as a frame of reference. This wasn't my original intention; especially not when I started the story in the early 2000s; but it's what it's ended up being. I guess I'm too far removed from being immersed in the universe the way I used to be. I find to write truly good Fan Fiction you must leave and breathe your subject; and in 2020 and for Resident Evil I just don't…
And end with the first person narrative. It was my first attempt at using this style and I'm not sure I like it. Inspired, I guess, mostly by the book World War Z (Those who haven't read it; its NOTHING like the movie. The book is the pinnacle of zombie-fiction in any medium) where it's told in an interview format of survivors recapping the events of the "Z War". But, I of course, do not do the form justice in comparison to Max Brooks.
Not sure if I got it across or not; but the main driver for the story for me was to tell the tale of the pain of losing one's parents; young. I lost both mine whilst I was in my 20s and it's had a profound effect on me as a person.
I'd really welcome a review or two, as reviews are love. Anytype of feedback is good.
I doubt I'll ever write a Resident Evil story again, if you can even class this AS a Resident Evil story, but I'll continue to dance around the periphery of this universe's games. The zombie genre that enjoyed the lime light thanks to the phenomenal first few seasons of The Walking Dead, has died a death of late; but, after space operas, has to be my favourite genre. I believe it'll find a way to survive death and come back to bite us when we least expect it. For this I welcome and maybe one day I'll get around to writing that original Z-Novel I've had in my head since I was 15.
Thanks everyone for reading, if you've made it this far I salute you. If you're a general sci-fi fan please check out some of my other stories; Star Trek and B5 are kinda my thing; so they're totally dripping with genre references and are almost 100% chronological and canonically correct, but if you're just a Resi fan; peace out.
