It's been a hell of a long time since I updated this story but I reread it recently and think it has some merit so for anyone who was still waiting here's what happened next!
Ace jumped out of his seat and darted for the door. He swerved past Hillary and felt her finger tips slip over his shirt as she tried to pull him back.
By the time Ace was out the door she was already long gone. His eyes surveyed up and down the street but he couldn't catch a glimpse of her. He thought about jumping in his car to follow her but he knew Alex, if she didn't want to be found then he wasn't going to find her.
Frustrated he turned and kicked the wall of the diner. He could feel the eyes of the boys and Hillary staring at him through the window.
He walked back through the front door, and marched towards Hillary, teeth barred and eyes nearly glazed over completely.
He gripped her wrist as tight as a vice.
"How fucking dare you say that to her!" Hillary cowered as Ace towered over her
"Why do you care.." she whimpered as Ace loosened his grip.
"Yeah Ace. Why do you care so much" he turned to see Vince stood behind him. By the tone of voice he could tell he was suspicious. This stopped Ace. Why did he care so much.
He went to leave, looking up first to catch eyes with Hillary before spitting on the ground in front of her. She recoiled in disgust. He considered waiting for the boys but was too hot headed. He slid into the driver's seat of his car and began to leave.
Alex was far from home. After the incident at the diner she had gone to all the usual Cobra spots but had quickly left knowing Ace would be looking for her. Eventually she found herself out by the river behind the junk yard. She skimmed the front of her sneakers across the surface of the water making ripples as she tried to diffuse her anger.
It wasn't like she had never heard the things people said about her. Girls at school often mocked her looks and would sneer at how Ace would spend time with her. It never bothered her she knew she was a tom boy little sister to Ace, Alex had never thought of herself as pretty and she was damn sure Ace didn't think so either.
Recently she had, had to escape Ace. Sometimes being together all the time was draining especially with a friendship as intense as theirs. They had been inseparable for so long that she'd never thought about it much, but the thought of her life without him seemed empty. She refused to leave herself vulnerable like that. Alex was never completely sure about what she felt for Ace, but it was complex.
She shook her head. She wasn't jealous of any of the girls Ace threw to the curb every week. Her and Ace were friends, best friends that was it.
"Cobras don't have feelings" she whispered to herself echoing the words Ace had once told her years ago.
She tilted her head back to enjoy the last few moments of sun beating down on her face. The sun was beginning to set and a sense of stillness was washing over the river. She was relaxed, finally done with the day and its stress, but that was her mistake.
She suddenly felt a hand slip round her throat. She went to scream but he had already clamped her mouth shut. She tried to duck out of his grasp but froze when she felt cold metal pressed to her neck.
"Shhh" she felt the hot breath against her ear "Now what's a lovely young thing like you doing all the way out here huh?"
