Hi guys! This is my first time writing a story, so please be nice and don't insult in the comments. This is on my take during Kingdom Hearts III. This takes place during Sora fighting Aqua in the realm of darkness and when Riku goes back on shore to check on Mickey. I figured that I should write a story that shows the friendship between Riku and Mickey, and how they got Aqua home. So, I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Kingdom Hearts
He felt like drowning.
He couldn't see nothing but darkness everywhere.
After the Demon Tide had consumed him, Mickey blacked out for a minute before coming to his senses. He couldn't breathe because he was underwater. He couldn't see nothing because it was dark. The mouse looked around for a surface, so he could finally breathe air again. As he looked around, his lungs started to hurt due to lack of air, and he found nothing.
This is all your fault. You caused all this to happen.
Huh? Mickey thought. Who was it?
This is all your fault. If you hadn't abandoned Aqua and left her for another two years in her prison, she would have never been corrupted nor have Riku get involved in this and get hurt. Now because of you, you are going to lose two Guardians of Light. All because you were ignorant to see that Aqua had been suffering in her dark prison.
Mickey could feel the dark words seep into his mind. As the air in his lungs were leaving him, he was left with guilt and remorse. It's all my fault. If I came sooner, this would have never happened. Mickey was nearly on the verge of tears. He believed every word that the mysterious dark voice said. Mickey was in so much distraught that he forgot that he was drowning. As the last gulp of air left his lungs, all he could think was "I deserve this", before blacking out.
"Watch over the King. I've got this." Sora said determinedly.
As much as Riku resisted, he knew that Mickey needed him onshore and that Sora can handle this fight. The possessed master had worn out Riku and Mickey. Sora is the one that can save Aqua.
"Okay." Riku ran back onshore, where Mickey lied unconscious. When he finally reached to Mickey, Riku knelt on both knees before turning Mickey onto his back and lifted his head slightly.
"Mickey. Wake up." Riku said in a very concerning tone. He shook the mouse slightly. Mickey didn't respond.
"Wake up. Please." Riku shook him again. This time, Mickey stirred as he moaned and slowly opened his eyes.
"Wake up. Please."
Mickey could hear a voice. But this time, it was familiar to him. It was Riku. Mickey slowly opened his eyes. At first it was blurry, but after blinking a few times, it finally became clear. He could see Riku looking down at him with concern.
"Are you ok?" Riku asked, as Mickey sat on his own. "I'm fine. A little dizzy, but I'm ok." Mickey replied. Before he could ask anything, Mickey heard keyblades clashing each other. He finally remembered what had just happened and that Aqua needed to be saved. "Aqua!" Mickey shouted, as he tried to stand up and run towards the fight, but he felt so weak that he couldn't stand. Before the mouse could fall, Riku caught him before he could hit the ground.
"Don't worry, Mickey. We're going to save Aqua. Sora jumped in and helped me defeat the heartless. Sora is fighting Aqua right now, while we recover our strength for a bit," Riku assured Mickey, as he pushed the mouse into a sitting position. Mickey had a benefit of doubt, but he needed to have faith in Sora. Mickey nodded before taking a deep breath. As he could hear keyblades clashing, all Mickey could think about was the voice when he was trapped in the Demon Tide. Was it his fault for leaving Aqua in the Realm of Darkness? Was it his fault for Aqua suffering? Was it his fault that Aqua fell into darkness? Mickey looked down onto the dark sand as his negative thoughts consumed his mind, with tears forming in his eyes.
As Riku looked at the battle between Sora and Aqua, Riku glanced at Mickey before looking at him with concern. He noticed that Mickey was looking down onto the sand and saw tears forming in his eyes.
"Mickey?" The mouse looked up at Riku. "Are you ok?" Riku asked in concerned tone. Mickey didn't know how to respond. After a moment, the mouse finally spoke.
"It's all my fault. If I had come sooner to save Aqua, none of this would have happened. You wouldn't have gotten hurt and she would have never been possessed. I shouldn't have abandoned Aqua and left her here. How can I call myself a Keyblade Master for abandoning one of the Guardians of Light? How can I call myself a friend for leaving Aqua in this dark prison for 12 years?!" Mickey couldn't take it anymore. After a moment, he finally let all his emotions out and buried his face into his arms.
Riku looked at the mouse in shock. Out of the two years that Riku had been friends with Mickey, he had never seen Mickey like this. However, Riku knew that it wasn't Mickey's fault for leaving Aqua alone in the Realm of Darkness. Riku knew that Mickey did the best he could to save Aqua. Without any hesitation, Riku placed a comforting hand on Mickey's shoulder before the mouse looked up with tears soaked on his face.
"Listen Mickey. It's not your fault. It was never your fault. You did all you could to save Aqua. If you weren't a good friend, you wouldn't have given all your efforts to save her. Look where we are. We went back to the Realm of Darkness without any hesitation to save Aqua. Even if she is possessed with darkness, we can still save her. Sora is here to help us when we need him, which is giving us more hope that Aqua will be saved. So, don't say it's your fault when we're going to save Aqua and bring her back home." Riku's words gave Mickey a sense of hope and comfort. Mickey knew that he is doing his best to save Aqua and they went back to save her. He knew that they were going to bring Aqua back home.
Mickey wiped away his tears and looked at Riku. "You're right Riku. We're going to save Aqua and bring her back home. Thank you for giving me a sense of hope."
Riku gave him a nod and smiled. "You have given me hope more times than I could count. What kind of friend would that make me if I didn't do the same?" Feeling touched by his words, Mickey hugged his friend, which Riku returned.
That's when they heard a scream. Riku and Mickey broke the hug and look out towards the dark sea where the battle is happening. They could see Aqua holding her head, while stumbling backwards before a pool of darkness forms underneath her feet. As Mickey's keyblade disappeared from her hand, she fell back as the darkness left her body, leaving her original appearance on herself. She fell into the pool and sunk slowly into the darkness.
"Aqua!" Sora, Riku, and Mickey shouted, as they ran towards the pool and Sora jumped into the darkness. Riku and Mickey stood by the pool of darkness, waiting nervously for something to happen. After waiting for what felt like hours, even it was just 5 minutes, Sora finally broke through the surface with Aqua in his arms, unconscious. Riku and Mickey helped Sora out of the pool of darkness and Riku took Aqua from Sora's arms into his.
"Is she ok?" Mickey asked in a concerned tone, looking at the unconscious Keyblade Master.
"She's fine. Aqua is just worn out." Sora replied. "Thank you so much for helping us, Sora." Riku said gratefully. Sora blushed a little and smiled before saying, "No problem. I would do anything to help anyone." Riku and Mickey gave him a grateful nod.
"Let's get out of here." Mickey said before taking out his keyblade, which he got back from Aqua. His keyblade shone a light, forming a door to light. With Aqua in Riku's arms, Sora, Riku, and Mickey walked into the door of light.
Donald and Goofy waited for what felt like forever. All they could think about was Sora, Riku, and their king. They are wondering if they're ok and if something bad happened to them. As the worried thoughts consumed their minds, they see a light that looks like a door. What they didn't expect was Sora, Mickey, and Riku, with an unconscious Aqua in his arms, walking out of the door of light.
"Sora! Riku! Your majesty!" Donald and Goofy shouted, as they ran up towards the group. Riku set Aqua down onto the sand before checking her for any injuries. "Is Aqua ok?" Goofy asked in a worried tone. "She's fine. From what I can tell, she's not hurt. Aqua is just exhausted." Riku replied. Donald and Goofy let out a sigh of relief.
"What happened in there?" Donald asked. Sora, Riku, and Mickey gave each other glances before Mickey opened his mouth. "Aqua was possessed with darkness and nearly defeated Riku and me. Sora jumped into the battle on time and helped us save Aqua. The darkness really wore her down, so she's going to need some time to recover."
Before Donald and Goofy could ask anything, Aqua stirred before opening her eyes with a groan. Everyone stared at her as she awoke. She lifted herself up slightly before looking at Sora and Riku. In Aqua's eyes, she could only see Ventus and Terra looking down at Aqua with concern.
"Aqua." Ventus exclaimed. "Aqua." Terra followed.
Aqua couldn't believe her eyes. Are Terra and Ven with her for the first time in 12 years? Relieved and joyed, she smiled. "Ven, Terra." But to her disappointment and confusion, her vision cleared, and she could see the two teenage boys that she met 12 years ago. Both were looking down at her with concern.
"Aqua!" Sora shouted. "Aqua!" Riku followed.
Aqua was left confused and astonished. "It's you."
"Thank goodness. You're awake!" Mickey said, excitedly. "Mickey…" Aqua said. As she pulled herself into a sitting position, she looked at her surroundings. Instead of seeing the dark sky, dark sand, and dark sea, she saw the sun, bright blue sky, and bright blue sea. Confused she asked, "Are these…the Destiny Islands?" "That's right." Mickey answered.
As Aqua sat on her knees, she still thought that she is still in the Realm of Darkness and that Destiny Islands fell into darkness. "When did they fall into darkness?" Aqua asked in a clearly worried tone. With a slight chuckle, Riku shook his head before saying something that Aqua hadn't heard in 12 years:
"You're in the Realm of Light."
Aqua gasped in astonishment. Is she really here? Is she finally free from her dark prison? As she bathed in the warm light, she can only stare up the sky as a tear streamed down her face, followed by other tears.
Sora held out his hand before saying, "You're home." Aqua gasped in joyed and smiled than she ever had in 12 years. "You're home!" Donald and Goofy exclaimed. Donald ran up to Aqua before hugging her, which she returned. Mickey hugged her next before everyone else went in for a group hug, laughing with joy and relief.
"Welcome home." Mickey said in a cheerful tone.
"We did it!" Sora exclaimed in relief and joy. They did it. They got Aqua home from her dark prison. Aqua was finally home.
Hi readers! I hope you enjoyed the story. As I was writing this, I was nearly tearing up with joy. It always makes me smile that Aqua finally saw the light for the first time in 12 years. I don't know if I'm going to be writing more stories, but if you have any requests or suggestions, let me know in the comments. Also, let me know what you think about the story. If I see any negative comments, sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. That's all for today folks. Disneynerd2342, out!
