Ok I know I am not perfect with updating but I am trying my best! Still got about 7k words to write with my dissertation, which is not as fun as writing fanfiction, let me tell ya! Anyways, I took time to update for you guys, and I really hope you like this chapter! Oh and please please let me know what you think of the story so far!
Shibuya couldn't sleep that night. Not that he found it easy to sleep any night. This girl, this random client in a long list he could have picked, just so happened to be just like him if not quite so lucky…
Yet she was the picture of optimism and generosity.
This girl was a stranger at most, and there was a pang of regret having to lie to her about who he was. Especially since she was being so open and honest with him. She shared her secrets and past with him, and yet he had not even been so kind to share his actual name. Hell, she was even a fan!
Oliver Davis did not feel good about lying to her…

Mai twisted her hair in her fingers, trying to ignore the fact that she missed Shibuya after an hour being apart. That was a strange sensation, missing someone she barely knew and would eventually have to say goodbye to forever. But she couldn't really help it! He was being so kind to her, and that was a blessing she didn't have a lot of experience with.
Her heart pounded in her chest.
"Come on Mai, get it together!" She scolded under her breath. Masako was sleeping soundly beside her. Was she really crushing on this man she barely knew?
Mai sighed heavily, getting out of bed, and heading to base. She did her best to ignore the dark images of the monster on the stairs and the would-be killer in the bathroom. It was just two doors down, so she was knocking on base before the fear sent her running.
"Come in" Shibuya called out to her, and Mai felt her heartbeat faster. She felt the tension leave her body as she opened the door and stepped into base.
"Just you tonight?" Mai asked, quickly making her way to the tea set.
Shibuya nodded, taking off the headset and turning to look at her. "Can't sleep?"
"You got me" Mai rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. "Do you mind if I-"
"No" Shibuya cut her off, smirking as he turned in his chair.
"You don't know what I was going to say!" Mai accused lightheartedly.
"Of course I do, you want to read in here" Shibuya gave the monitors a quick once over before turning back to face her. He was going to add that she would probably read for about ten minutes before falling asleep but felt that sounded a little… flirty? Assuming so much about her like that.
Mai stuck her tongue out at him, before preparing the tea. "Hey, do you want tea or not?"
"Tea would be agreeable" He answered slowly, weary that she might not make him any.
"Agreeable?" Mai scoffed. "You haven't gone more than a few hours without a cup of tea!"
Shibuya shrugged. "Well I am British"
"You really have an answer for everything huh?" Mai huffed and handed him a cup of tea.
"Of course, my brain just works like that" Shibuya couldn't help the slither of condescension that invaded his voice.
Mai let out a bitter laugh. Mostly amused by the man's antics. "Aren't you a little proud"
"Well I guess I do appreciate genius" Shibuya couldn't help it, his smirk in full force. Mai couldn't help but chuckle.
She grabbed at her own tea and pulled the cup to her lips. "Naru the Narcissist" She muttered into her drink.
"Naru the what?" 'Naru' asked, a little taken aback. Mai barely managed to stop herself spitting tea everywhere. She had not meant for Shibuya to hear her. She swallowed hard and burst out laughing.
"Naru the Narcissist!" She repeated through wheezes. "I'm sorry, I didn't think you heard me!"
Naru rolled his eyes heavenward, praying that the nickname wouldn't stick. "Shouldn't you be reading" He was practically pouting.
Mai smiled kindly at him, and Naru sighed. He was not really annoyed at her… She grabbed her book from the shelf and Naru tried to ignore the warmth in his chest. This girl…
As predicted, Mai was asleep within the hour.

Mai was sleeping soundly last Shibuya checked, and he had checked recently. He hadn't been paying attention to just how frequently he turned in his chair to look at her, but even he knew it was a lot. Just as he was about to put the headphones back on, he heard a gasp behind him.
Mai had awoken, but her eyes were glassy and her expression fearful. She stood quickly, throwing the blanket off in a blind hurry as she raced to the door.
"Mai?!" Naru called, quickly standing and following Mai out of the room and down the stairs. It was dark in the hall but Naru did not slow down. He only barely managed to keep his feet under him as Mai sprinted ahead. "Mai wait!"
Everyone else had awoken to him shouting, and were quickly piling out of their rooms but Naru ignored them, instead trying to keep pace with Mai. She hadn't even stopped to get her shoes, but Naru had managed to slip his on and grab hers without losing too much speed.
It was an hour before sunrise so it was still dark out, but the sky was clear.
Naru glimpsed Mai darting through the trees and gave chase. "Mai stop, where are you going?!"
Mai didn't seem to have heard him. Naru remembered that glassy look in her eye. He wasn't even sure she was awake...
After a while she reached a clearing and Naru managed to snag her arm. Mai tried ripping herself free from his grasp but Naru was much stronger then she was. There were tears in her eyes as she fought desperately to keep running, pushing Naru away and trying to pry his hand open. Mai was going into hysterics, and the only way to maintain his hold on her was to encircle her in his arms, pinning her in place. Mai still tried to drag him with her past the clearing, her free hand reaching out to the road...
Oliver watched a car come speeding down the road. He saw the headlight racing towards him, and heard the tires screeching...
Mai managed to break Naru's hold on her, making one last desperate attempt to make her way in front of the car but she was too late.
The car drove past them, unable to see them behind the treeline.
"SHIBUYA!" Mai screamed in anguish, tears streaming down her cheeks. Then her legs gave out beneath her, her knees driving into the dead leaves and mud. Naru broke from his trance, and managed to catch her before she passed out in his arms... Naru sat with her, too shocked to do anything more.
He could feel the cold seeping in but ignored it...
That was the road... that was the road he saw in his nightmares. It was just here, within walking distance of Mai's home. Taking a shaky breath he looked to his right. He could see that same bridge he had noticed on day one. The bridge that covered a lake. The lake...
"Gene...
