An hour past or maybe more before Lin finally found them. There was shouting and flashlights and it seemed that everyone was looking for them. Shibuya was just sitting in the mud, Mai asleep on his lap. Both freezing as the rain began to fall.

"Oliver what the hell, I have been worried sick" Lin scolded, before seeing the numbness in his charges eyes.

"He's here Lin" Shibuya whispered, an unmistakable dullness in his voice and his gaze locked at the lake. "I found my brother"

Mai woke within the void again, but this time she could see more then just endless space. Small white lights had began softly glowing in all directions, slowly floating higher. To where, Mai did not know. She did understand instinctively however, that these were the spirits of the dead. In the distance there was also something else. From where Mai sat, it just looked like a blurry mass of muted light.

Standing on shaky legs, Mai tried to ignore the lack of solid ground to stand on. Slowly she made her way towards the foggy glow, and the image raced to meet her. It was like an X-ray imagine of her house. She could see right through the walls, right through the floor. SPR was there too, and she could track their every movement.

Her eyes met her parents room, and it looked the lightest of all the rooms. It was like the room was too warm, clear and bright to be touched by whatever evil walked her halls. That thought alone brought a tear to her eye and a smile to her lips.

"Why am I seeing this?" She wondered aloud, but she really wasn't expecting an answer. When one came anyway, she almost lost her balance.

"This is the spirit plane" a familiar voice echoed. Mai looked behind her to see Shibuya making his way over to her.

"Shibuya, why are you here?" Mai planted her feet more securely beneath her, before noticing the sorrowful expression in his deep blue eyes. It took a second but then her dream rushed to meet her, hitting her like a sucker punch to the gut and nearly taking her off her feet. Tears spilled from her eyes and Mai felt her throat tighten to a sob. "Did you... die?" Her question came out between hiccups and 'Shibuya' quickly pulled her against his chest.

'Shibuya' sighed deeply, but not in irritation like normal, more like it was out of deep regret. He had to tell her, it was too late to protect her from all of this. "I'm not who you think I am Mai"

It took a second for his statement to reach her, but when it did her weeping halted with a sharp breath. She quickly pulled back, her hands gripping his arms and her eyes scanning his face. Slowly she noticed the slight differences between Shibuya and the man standing before her. Shibuya looked a little older, and was never this emotionally articulate. He also gave Mai a slightly different feeling? Vibe might be a different way to describe it. Like a sense that seemed different from what she felt with Shibuya... this man didn't have that same light and colour, smell or warmth to him as Shibuya did. It was one of those things that, once you saw it, it didn't go away. Still emotionally exhausted, she allowed herself to fall back against his chest. "I didn't know Shibuya had a brother" she muttered weakly.

"How could you know?" The man smiled warmly. Mai felt fresh tears sting her eyes, and it didn't feel as numb as everything else here felt. She was crying for real but everything else was not physical. "You never even knew me, but here you are crying for me?"

"I saw it all happen and I couldn't do anything to help you!" Mai cried frustratedly again his shoulder. She didn't pull away when he held her more tightly. "And now you and your brother are apart and I still can't help you"

Eugene looked down at the young woman in his arms and felt his heart heave. He had felt her emotions rocking the very foundations of spirit plane, and not for the first time, did he deeply regret the pain he caused in those around him. "I get the feeling that you would have done whatever it took to save me. That alone means so much to me"

When Mai eventually woke, she became quickly aware that her eyes were almost glued shut. This happened to her more then most, as she often found herself crying in her sleep. She numbly registered the fact that she had actually felt herself cry in her dream. Mai brought her arm to her eyes, drying them and trying to rub off the thick dew from her eyelids.

She found herself in the guest room, which she was meant to be sharing with Masako and Ayako. Looking to her left, she could see someone was sleeping in the other bed. It was dark and her vision had yet to adjust, but she was sure that it wasn't either of the girls. Sitting up to get a better look, Mai saw the gentle pale face and black raven hair of Shibuya Kazuya...

Just as she felt herself being lost in his angelic features, her nightmare reared its ugly head, and Mai felt her stomach churn sickeningly. Her hand flew to her lips as she watched Shibuya land hard behind the car. His body bent in unnatural angles and blood pooling all around him...

No that was not Shibuya. It was his twin brother Eugene...

Mai sobbed, quickly pulling in her knees and crying against them. She had to be quite, but her soul ached and there was no stopping the pain that spread through her chest.

It was of no use, she just couldn't contain herself, and it didn't take long for Shibuya to begin to stir. Mai tried holding her breath, anything to stop from waking him, but then her crying turned to hiccups and she soon found herself pinned down by his stare.

"Mai-"

"I'm sorry!" Mai quickly interjected. She had meant for waking him up, but she had so much more to be sorry for. She had caused him so much trouble.

Shibuya sighed and sat up, hand holding his skull. He had a headache and his body was heavy... sitting in the rain might not have been a very good idea.

"Don't be, I wasn't meant to fall asleep" Shibuya sighed. "But you have been unconscious since last night"

"Wait what's the time now?" Mai felt ashamed to have overslept. Shibuya showed her the time on his phone. It was nearly 6pm. She had slept all day. "Oh crap!"

"You were exhausted Mai, you needed the rest" Shibuya assured. Mai felt her cheeks heat up. He was calling her by her first name again. Then that caring look in his eyes reminded her of Eugene...

"I'm sorry" Mai said again, and it was clear that she was trying not to cry. "Eugene told me..."

"I figured he would" Shibuyas voice softened significantly. He had a soft spot for his brother. "So you saw it?"

"I thought it was you" Mai admitted, letting the tears fall. "Something felt so wrong, and all I could do is run in time to see it... but not stop it"

"Mai you tried to throw yourself in front of a car" Shibuya sounded rather frustrated, but his anger was not aimed at her. "If I hadn't ran after you..." he trailed off, unable to finish he's sentence.

"You saved me?" Mai found herself saying. She almost sounded like she saw accusing him of something.

"From the sounds of it, I stopped you from trying to save me"

It was quite in the house the next morning. While everyone was glad Mai was unharmed, they knew that something was very wrong with her unprompted forest sprint the other night. They were also aware that it was not just about the case. When Shibuya got back to the house, something was very different about him. While he was never a man to emit light or radiate heat, he was still very dependable, reliable and strong. When he came back to the house however, he looked like a broken shell of a man. Like whatever motivated his actions no longer functioned as it used to. His eyes didn't grow cold when the gang fussed over them, like he didn't even have the strength to be mad at them. He looked like a fire being snuffed out.

In fact, the only time he did anything besides sitting quietly in a corner, was when Lin ordered him to keep an eye on Mai in the other room. He nodded and stood, following Monk as he carried an unconscious Mai into the next room. 'You should get some rest too' Monk had suggested, before walking out. Shibuya nodded once, before climbing into the other bed and closing his heavy eyelids. Then for the next 14 hours, he took turns sleeping and stewing over the inevitable. He knew he would find his brother. He knew it would be traumatic ordeal. And he knew he would have to leave...
