NOTE:
[I've decided to try this fun little idea I had. I've got a few storylines in progress, so this will just be an introductory piece before moving to the good stuff. Hope you enjoy!]
PROLOGUE: The World of [Cloned] Smash Ultimate
The world of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is one filled with exceptional fighters across various dimensions and worlds. For over 20 years, it has held hundreds of tournaments to prove who is the best fighter in the universe.
Despite its history and fame, there are a few well kept secrets about the Smash world that only a few individuals outside of its walls know of. See, running multiple tournaments across many locations at a time can be an issue with a relatively limited pool of fighters. Despite an extensive roster of over 80 characters, the combination of a busy tournament season and personal obligations from the fighters themselves meant that without additional help, Master and Crazy Hand would be lucky if they could pull of 2 major events with their current pool of fighters. As their original roster of 12 continued growing, the hands needed a creative solution to continue holding more massive and unique events. Thus, it was decided that whenever a new competitor becomes a member of the Official Smash Roster, additional clones of them(called Alternates) would be created to spice up the competition while helping their ever-increasing tournament schedule. This rule would not evenly apply to every fighter, seeing how some characters used very similar fighting techniques anyway. How these clones are made, and why the Nintendo Tourney higher-ups agreed to this decision, including Mr. Sakurai, is a secret kept for those within the Smash world.
These copies are all given a variety of outfits to wear to easily distinguish between each other in battle and in any public appearances that were done. Additionally, each clone was given a small (or big) personality difference between the original(s) and the other clones to "give variety between each clone of a fighter during a match", according to the tournament organizers.
Life for the Alternates was fairly quiet when compared to their originals. They could usually be seen fighting one another in smaller events, in Big Team Battles alongside their originals, or training amongst their clones. Since their main job was training and battling, this resulted in a lot of downtime for them to do as they wished. In a few special instances, some of the alternates could be seen visiting other worlds, but otherwise, most of their time was spent within the Smash World.
Regardless of that, this story begins in the Smash Estates, a small town that acts as the home of the 80+ fighters and their clones. Originally, it began as a multi-story mansion for the original 12 fighters, but has since expanded to now looking like a village or small town with hundreds of competitors and hundreds more staff to help manage the place. There were no tournaments happening today, so many of the originals and their alternates were either out enjoying the break or training for an upcoming match.
