Chapter 2
As I reached down to check my phone, the display changed to show an unknown number was now calling me. My hand paused for a moment, then continued until I had picked up the phone.
A burst of static filled my ear as I opened my mouth to speak. Nearly dropping my phone in response to the sudden loud noise, I noticed a voice amongst all the static.
"...save her." I heard the voice say. "Save who? Is this a prank call?" I replied. Again the sound of static came through, and then the voice came back. "It's not too l... you can..." Perhaps some movie being filmed and they accidentally dialed my phone?
"I'm afraid I don't understand, who is this?" I asked after a moment, but as soon as I finished speaking the call ended. "I'm sure Sakura would find this hilarious, maybe she had something to do with it." I thought to myself. The bizarre event taking up most of my thoughts, I completely forgot about the text message.
Opening the message up, it was from the same number that had called. Any hope of figuring out any more of the mystery was lost, as all of the text in the message was incomprehensible.

Closing out the message, I debated on what to do now. I still hadn't heard back from Sakura, who should have been on her way by now. "Maybe she's getting it removed so I can actually eat it?" The image of her coming through the door of the cafe on a gurney holding her pancreas on a plate came into mind and immediately I banished that thought.
I went back to the message, and my finger hovered over the call button. I knew she'd probably be happy to hear my voice, but part of me still hesitated. Deciding that she'd have a good reason for being a little late, I put my phone down and continued reading the book.
It was one of those "_ for dummies" books you'd see laying around at book stores, but after reading through it for a few hours, I had began to wish there was a "for dummies" for this book. I had always been decent in my studies, science being one of my better subjects. But the theories and scientific terminology used completely overwhelmed me. Quantum science may just be something I'll never understand.
After spending a bit longer trying to understand the book I had picked up, I packed it away. Looking outside, I noticed the sun had set. I tried giving Sakura a call, but no answer. "She'll have a good reason for it, she wouldn't just not show up", I told myself.
I left the cafe and headed home, wondering what could have been the reason she didn't show. Thinking of each reason, some of what I had read earlier started to click. I laughed to myself, and my multiverse of stress melted away. I turned onto my street, and I walked inside.
My mom greated me, and asked about dinner. I started to answer back, until I heard what the TV was saying. Something about police being called, and close by too. That's when I found out the truth of why Sakura never showed.
"It can't be true, this can't be real."
"It can't be true, this can't be real."
"It can't be true, this can't be real."
Those words kept repeating in my head as I watched the news. At first I didn't want to believe it, that maybe it wasn't her but someone with the same name. But it was her picture that came up on the screen, and that erased any doubts I had left, and crumbled the little strength I had. I ran up to my room, slipping on the stairs. I barely remember closing my door, or when I ended up on my bed.
As I laid there in shock, unable to process the news, the only thought that stayed with me now was "I wish I could have saved her." After what felt like hours, I finally fell asleep.
The sound of my alarm going off woke me up. Memories of the past night kept me in bed even after I turned off the alarm. I would have stayed in bed had my mom not come up and forced me to come eat breakfast.
"You really shouldn't be moping around so early, it's not ." She lightened this statement by passing some food onto my plate. I looked down at my plate, and then back up to her. "Besides, you've been so happy since you got yourself a girlfriend", she added.
I choked for a second on my food, not expecting anything like that from her. "I don't have a girlfriend", I finally got out after finishing my food. She looked at me, and replied. "Well if not a girlfriend then you made a friend. You should bring them over sometime." She smiled after saying this and began to eat.
As I began to have a retort back, something had dawned on me. I had heard her say those words before, in a slightly different way. I pinched my leg to see if I was still asleep, but no I was definitely awake. I rubbed my leg where I pinched it, and asked, "Mom what is today?"
She looked back up at me, pausing from eating her breakfast. "It's the 19th of August, you didn't see on your phone?" She looked back down and continued her breakfast. Thankfully she did, because if she had seen the look on my face there would have been more questions.
I finished my breakfast, and went back upstairs. "I can save her." This realization came to me after she told me what day it was. Suddenly everything hit me at once. She had died. Now it was the same morning and she is alive. I've gone back in time. Overwhelmed, I got into my bed while massaging my scalp. It was as though my brain was being overloaded and then gave out, knocking me out.
I awoke a few hours later, my phone missing from my pocket. As was my bag that I was supposed to take to the cafe today. "Something fishy is going on", I thought to myself. I washed up, and got dressed to head out. Grabbing some money, I figured I could at least go buy a cheap phone to use until I figure where it went off to, as searching my room had zero results.
Passing by the entrance to the family room, my mom looked over and smiled, then quickly looked puzzled. "See you later again I suppose." I tilted my head, and replied. "What do you mean again?"
"Well you left earlier, but you had your bag with you. Did you leave it and come back for something else?" She asked me, but I merely continued looking at her so she just shrugged it off. "Well anyway, have a good day son." She turned back towards the TV and left me alone.
The Authors Desk
This is the end of chapter 2. I decided to take some notes from a certain series involving a Bunny Girl Senpai, and use them in this story. Will there be a crossover involving characters from that series? I have no idea yet, but it could happen.
But anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and are interested to see what's going to happen next. Thank you and hope to see you back for chapter 3.
