-Set after BoO-
Finally, a few moments of peace for the young heroes of Olympus. But of course, life always has it's bumps, no matter how small...
Percy and Annabeth were alone in the Jackson-Blofis apartment again. It was actually... pretty quiet! Nice. You might be thinking: 'ewwww! How could any sane mother leave her son with his girlfriend alone unsupervised !' But after saving the world a couple times together, Sally was pretty relaxed about the whole thing. As long as they pinky-promised to not get up to any 'funny business'. Anyways, Sally and Paul were on a trip together. Some sort of book signing or whatnot. It was a Saturday, so Percy woke up late and wanted to just relax a bit with his amazing girlfriend. Maybe watch a movie. This time, without any sort of interruption-*cough* Stoll brothers *cough*. One time, there was this incident involving toothpaste, vacuum cleaners, flamin' hot cheetos, and one of Chiron's old records... Getting off track. When Percy stepped out of the bathroom after his morning shower (yes, he was clothed, you creep), Annabeth looked up from her book. Her eyes swept across her boyfriend's tanned back and- Her eyes widened to the size of dinner plates.
Oh. My. Gods. Of course, there were the average monster scars, older, white ones from the Titan War, others from the Giant War and their time in... there. That was normal, nothing new. What caught her eye was the various, little round ovals that occasionally littered her perfect, beautiful boyfriend's back like birdseed on sand, that stretched slightly when he bent down to search through the drawers.
"Where did you get those?"
"What?" Percy turned, brows furrowed slightly in confusion. Adorable. But Annabeth didn't allow herself to be distracted.
"Those scars. The round ones." Annabeth could now see that the little round dots, barely visible, but there nonetheless, was almost everywhere on his skin.
"Oh... probably some monster scar...?" Percy replied with a smile. He rubbed the back of his neck and pulled on a shirt. However Annabeth knew him too well. The way he didn't smile quite right, the way the pitch of his voice wavered upwards ever so slightly so that it was almost a question. He was lying.
Annabeth frowned. He normally didn't hold back this sort of thing. What monster was it? The scars didn't seem normal. Most monsters had claws or something like that, which left long lines or shallow nicks. Nothing oval-y like that... Oh. That can't be possible, can it? Percy would've told her... Annabeth felt rage, guilt, shock and sadness all at once. Rage from the mere thought that any person, much less someone's step-father, could do such a thing to their step-son. Guilt for never seeing it before. Never noticing the scars, not seeing the truth. Shock once the fact hit her like a speeding truck, and a pang of sadness that Percy never talked about it before. Even after everything.
"What. Did. He. Do." She growled, clenching her jaw.
Percy turned. "Wha- oh."
"Why didn't you say anything?" Her eyes stung as tears threatened to spill out of them, her body slouching against the bed frame she was leaning against. She was so, so angry at Gabe, so sad to think of everything he put her Percy, her Percy who deserved the world.
Percy immediately rushed to her, holding her close, pulling her into his lap, rubbing her arms in that gentle way of his that never failed to soothe her.
"I'm sorry" Annabeth whispered, the surge of emotion ebbing as she saw that Percy wasn't bothered much by it.
"What for?"
"I'm being stupid. You're so strong and not even bothered by it when you're the one that had to live with Gabe all those years, and I- I'm here, crying and letting you comfort me. I'm sorry." She looked up at Percy, regret and uneasiness welling in her eyes.
Percy smiled gently at her. "Wise Girl, nothing your ever think or say is stupid. It's okay. I understand. But I'm okay now. I've gotten rid of him now, and I've got you. You know the Medusa head I sent to Olympus?"
"How could I forget? That was one of the most reckless, seaweed-brained things you've ever done. I'm still surprised you didn't get blown to smithereens right then and there." Annabeth laughed.
"Yeah, me too. The good old days, with Grover, you, and me. Just the three of us, Grover fighting to get his searcher's license, and you basically begging for a quest. Anyways, lets just say I put the head to good use and..." he trailed off, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Oh my gods. Did you really?" Annabeth gasped, then laughed.
"Yeah. Mom got praised for the realism. It was the only piece she even made, though. She turned to writing instead," Percy paused and then sighed. I just wish Mom didn't have to put up with him. I didn't even notice until after our first quest. I can't imagine what he put her through. I still feel guilty."
"He's a monster."
"Yeah"
A pause.
"I love you."
"I love you too"
Forever and always.
