Chapter 3 Dragonbite Elementary
Lemmy skipped through the door of the school. Despite the fact that he was just about to receive a punishment, he was legitimately happy to be here. He had never been to an actual school before. The most he had ever done was read about them in books, newspapers, or really bad fanfictions.
The school hallways were very bright. Very large windows aligned the right hand wall, giving Lemmy the impression that the building was made of glass. The floor was as shiny as a diamond, and the doors were decorated with very creative pictures. One was covered completely in multicolored numbers, and another had images of a cartoony Caterpillar and butterfly. Lemmy liked the latter the most.
"What is this place?" Roy asked.
"This is Dragonbite Elementary School," said Kamek. "You see, unlike you three, a good majority of the Koopa Kingdom don't get the privilege of being taught by me. They actually have to get up at six o'clock in the morning and spend a good six hours locked in buildings like these!"
Roy visibly cringed.
"Yeesh, that sounds awful! How do people even survive past the age of ten?"
Just as he said that, a school bell rang. The doors unlocked, and little kids came stomping out. Lemmy gasped when he saw them.
"Oh my gosh, they are so cute!" he squealed. Some of these kids were shorter than he was, if that was even possible. Their heads looked a little too big for their chubby little bodies, and their eyes were as big and bright as the sun. Lemmy turned to Wendy with a ginormous smile. "Wendy, aren't these kids adorable?"
"Yeah," Wendy said, although there was a type of timidity in her eyes. She twiddled her thumbs and turned her back to the kids as they bustled and shoved each other through the hallways. Lemmy giggled as a tiny toddler came over and started to play with his mohawk.
"Okay, shoo, you little urchin; go to the bus," Kamek said as he gently shooed the child away. Before Lemmy could audibly react, Kamek gestured for the Koopalings to follow him again. He led them to a wide open room that was dotted with bright red tables. Kamek gestured for them to sit down, and once they were situated he waved his wand. A transparent screen appeared right in front of the trio.
"Okay," Kamek said after clearing his throat. "Now, listen carefully as I explain your punishment." He started pacing in front of the screen. The Koopalings gripped the sides of their chairs. "The reason why I have brought the three of you here is because you will be spending the next few days in very similar settings. In order for you three to learn responsibility, Bowser has assigned each of you a special job."
"Ooh!" Lemmy said. "What kind of job? Students?"
"Cafeteria workers?" Wendy asked. Roy scratched his head.
"Classroom pets?" He asked slowly. Kamek shook his head.
"No, no, and no. The job that Bowser has assigned to you is that of the very important and sorely underappreciated…" Kamek pointed his wand at the screen, and a woman teaching a room full of kids popped up…."teacher!"
Kamek spread his arms out wide, and his mouth gaped open in a grin. The Koopalings stared at him in confusion.
"Uhhhh….what now?" Roy asked.
"Is this a joke?" Wendy asked. Kamek shook his head.
"No, miss Wendy, this is not a joke!" Kamek waved his wand, clearing the screen of the picture and replacing it with an image of three rectangles. Kamek started to pace again as he spoke up. "You see, by throwing that party, you three have shown that you are not responsible enough to handle more important duties, such as acting as ambassadors or attending diplomatic peace treaties. We need you to learn a lesson. So, I did some research and found out that there are three teachers in this area who are looking for subs." Kamek grinned, his teeth sparkling like the disco ball at the party. "It's perfect, really! What better way to teach you guys responsibility than to give you the responsibility of teaching!"
Wendy and Roy blinked their eyes out. Roy himself still looked confused. A look of utter horror appeared on Wendy's face.
"You can't possibly be serious!" Wendy exclaimed. She leaned forward in her chair. "This can't be our punishment!"
"Can and is," Kamek stated matter of factly. A sadistic grin appeared on his face. "I'm surprised that we didn't try this sooner."
Wendy started shaking her head and chewing on her nails. Roy scratched his head with an expression somewhere between disgust and incredulity. As for Lemmy?
"Woah," the littlest Koopaling said from the seat between his brother and sister. "We get to be teachers? That's….so…cool!"
Wendy and Roy looked at Lemmy in shock. Nevertheless, Lemmy hopped onto the table and leaned toward Kamek with a giddy grin on his face.
"CanIgetthekindergartenclassroom? Iwanttoplaywiththelittlekids! Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease?"
Kamek wiped his face with an incredulous look.
"First of all, get off of the table," he said dangerously. When Lemmy sat back down, Kamek cleared his throat. "Secondly, I have already taken the liberty of assigning you to your classrooms." Kamek waved his wand, and the Koopalings' emblems appeared above the rectangles on the screen. "Okay. Wendy." The rectangle underneath Wendy's emblem faded away to show a room full of toddlers. "Bowser and I have decided that you are going to teach the preschoolers here at Dragonbite Elementary."
Wendy's eyes grew so wide that she could easily pass for a girl in a horror movie. Kamek pointed toward Roy's emblem, and the rectangle below it showed a group of middle schoolers practicing on a bunch of musical instruments.
"As for you, Roy, you are going to teach the music class across the street at Dragonbite Middle School," Kamek said. Roy's mouth gawked open.
"What? Middle school? Is that even a thing?" he asked. Lemmy sat up straight and tall. He perched the tips of his fingers on the cafeteria table as curiosity and caution filled his mind.
"Wait, if Wendy gets preschool, and Roy gets middle school...then what do I get?"
Kamek smirked smugly.
"You, Lemonade…" Kamek waved his wand, and the rectangle below Lemmy's icon faded away to show a picture of teenagers sitting in front of a whiteboard. "You will be teaching Biology at Dragonbite High School two blocks away."
Lemmy's jaw dropped, his mouth hung open like a trapdoor. He stared at the teenagers on the screen, his eyes as big as potholes. Hi...high school?
"No...no!"
"Yes," Kamek said. "Remember, Lemonade. This is supposed to be a punishment."
Lemmy slowly turned his head up toward the ceiling. He clasped his hands to the sides of his face as he opened his mouth and screamed:
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
