Paralyzed Ch. 2: Notes

Location: UA High School, 1-A Classroom.

"Midoriya," the shy rocker casually called out to the freckled teen, walking up to him whilst he was lost in thought taking his notes.

"Hm," Midoriya head shot up as she had closed the distance between their desks, this causing him to blush a little, able to smash a building to pieces but unable to handle the towering giant known as 'human interaction' especially with girls.

"You're always taking notes in notebooks yeah? What's your method?"

"Is there some hero you wanna take notes on, Jiro," he excitedly shouted, taking a bit of pride in the fact that somebody actually wanted to know more about the notes he took.

"No," she replied whilst shaking her right earphone jack to further drive the point, even though she did kinda find his enthusiasm a tiny bit adorable, "I wanna learn how to take good notes. Like, how to make the point come across better. I scribble too much stuff down, so the main points get lost," she explained, holding up three of her own notebooks for reference, handing them over to him to understand what she meant.

"Oh, advice for your bandmates," Midoriya opened up the notes, seeing a detailed outline for the specifics of what each of her bandmates should understand before their performance later in the week, "Did you write all this Jiro?! Nice, I bet they'll love this," he smiled at the notebook, causing Kyoka to smile back at the compliment he gave on her note taking.

"That's the idea," she rose her arms up to her face, closing her eyes, "I was so sure people would just call this a useless hobby," she kept her smile, blushing slightly as her arms shook out of nervousness for the performance, and minor insecurities for both her talent and singing, "So…it feels like I've got something to prove!"

There it was, that honest and shy smile of hers, her hints of insecurity really shining through, the major reason Midoriya could really relate to her despite their lack of real interaction over the course of their first year. Izuku was obviously not the social butterfly that she was, from time to time anyway, this and her very snarky personality had made him a bit too nervous to actually muster up courage to talk to her, but he was at least thankful that she wanted to know how to take proper notes from him.

Not the strongest start to any newfound friendship, but everybody had to start somewhere.

"R-right," he smiled but blushed a little harder, finding her smile quite cute, "Even though these notes are very well written, if you want, you can borrow one of my hero notebooks if you want to have any kind of reference points for the others," he offered as he pulled out one of his fifteen novel length composition books.

"You sure," she asked as her composure relaxed a bit, "You normally protect these things with your life."

"Y-yeah, but if it'll help you out with the performance, and make you less nervous about it then I wouldn't mind if you took all of them," he rose his large yellow back pack, opening it up to reveal the rest of his massive collection.

She nervously chuckled as she took the one he had already offered, "No thanks, one should be enough, thank you though, I really appreciate it."

"N-no problem," he lowered the backpack to the ground, pretending his pride wasn't slightly crushed.

"I'll bring it back after the show, you're cool with that right?"

"Sure, take as long as you need."

"Alright cool," she replied as she picked up her own backpack, ready to head to back to the dorms and start taking better notes for the band, "See ya around Midoriya," she waved him goodbye as she turned toward the door of the classroom.

"S-see…you," he paused, he had been meaning to say something to her ever since he first heard her sing, and when they all decided to do a concert for the festival, however he wasn't able to due to his own personal troubles with talking to people, but he really wanted to change that, and he wouldn't be able to if he just sat there. Jiro had eventually left his line of sight, the conversations amongst the other students drowned out as his courage rose, Izuku shoved the items on his desk into his backpack as he rose from his chair, quickly exiting the room to the almost empty hallway, the afternoon setting sun lighting up the corridor and highlighting Jiro's form as she proceeded toward the exit, reading over his notebook while walking.

"Uh, hey Jiro," he rose his voice to get her attention, as he lightly sprinted to catch up with her; clutching the straps of his bag so that way it didn't bounce.

"Hm? Yeah what's up," she asked as she turned to face him, looking up from the reading material to make eye contact with him, this was a real composure killer to Midoriya, not only was he more used to people looking down on him, but full on eye contact intimidated him a little. It certainly didn't help that the bright orange rays of the setting summer sun only severed to spotlight her beauty, Izuku would honestly being lying to himself if he said her confidence was the only reason he hadn't approached her before, secretly viewing her as the most beautiful girl in the class. Unfortunately for him, he had caught up to her thirty seconds ago without realizing he didn't say anything, "Uh, you on planet earth there freckles?"

"…Oh! Uh sorry, I just u-u-uh, l-l-lost my train of thought," he stuttered out, nervously rubbing the back of his head, darting his eyes to the ground.

"Hehe oookay," Jiro chuckled at his awkwardness, giving him a second to allow his mind to catch up.

"S-sorry, I just, w-wanted to…thank you," he stopped rubbing his head allowing his hand to grip the strap of his bag once more, his eyes shifting from his shoes to her eyes; and then back because he was still a little embarrassed.

"Thank me? For what?"

"W-well, this concert that we are putting on is really important, for more than just showing our talents to the rest of the school. You probably haven't met her yet, since you were practicing with the rest of the band when she visited but, you know that mission that me, Uraraka, Asui, and Kirishima went on."

"Yeah, how could I forget, we were all freaking out."

"S-sorry about that, needed to keep it hush-hush and all that, but you probably heard about the little girl we rescued from the Shie Hissaikai."

"Eri right? Tsu and Ochako talked about her and the mission when you all got back that night."

"Right, well, we finally got her away from the yakuza but, she's still traumatized after everything they put her through," his mood changed from slightly embarrassed to depressed as his eye lids lowered, the image of Eri's sadness over not being able to smile for him and Mirio flashed through his mind, Jiro growing concerned after his sudden mood shift, "After seeing how sad she was, and remembering the concert we are going to put on, I asked Mr. Aizawa if she could come to the festival, I feel like it'll really make her feel better about all of it. I just know that, hearing you preform will finally let her be able to smile for the first time in a long time."

"W-wow," she replied a bit overwhelmed, blushing as her mouth gaped opened, having had no real idea that their act meant so much, "You really think it'll help her?"

"Yes, I'm sure of it," he said confidently, raising his head at last to make eye contact with her, his face just as determined as ever, "I know we'll all do our best, and that'll make a difference to her."

Jiro lowered her head, almost mimicking his prior mood and expression, a hard swallow and her grip on his notebook becoming tighter as her other hand clutched her arm. This, appropriately, causing Midoriya to freak out.

"Uh, oh my god, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to put any more pressure on you, I was just trying to say I'm grateful that your singing will surely help her be happy again, I only meant to raise your spirit I swear!"

"You…really believe I'm that good?"

"…Yes, I d-do, I didn't say anything before, but after hearing you sing for the first time the other day, it really made me feel better about everything that happened on the raid. I was really beating myself up for not being able to do as good as I should have, I was high strung m-more than usual, depressed, and well…the point is that it really calmed my nerves, and gave me the confidence that whatever song we preformed, whatever dance we did, and no matter what lack of faith that you had in your abilities, we will do absolutely amazing and bring little Eri out of her shell, I just know it," he smiled brightly, his utter belief in the class performance and happiness over the fact that Eri will finally be happy made him radiate pure joy.

His confidence and smile caused Kyoka to raise her head, her grip loosening as she looked in awe at her classmates-…friend's smile, his mood becoming contagious, as her own smile spread across her face. She wouldn't admit it openly, but her eyes watered a little, his belief in their concert and her skills illuminated the shadow of self-doubt that hung over her like a cloud, "I uh…thank you Midoriya, that was really sweet. I needed that."

"O-o-oh, you're w-w-welcome," and just like that his face was back to red, "I just, really wanted to express my gratitude, and I saw that you were a bit nervous and I've been there myself so I wanted to cheer you up."

"Thanks, it worked."

"I'm glad," he smiled at her, causing her to reciprocate her own at him, a minute or so passed before they looked away bashfully, "So…(clears his throat) I guess I'll see you at the dorms later."

"Well, we do live there," she quipped.

"R-right," he nervously chuckled.

"Mhm…" The awkward silence was almost painful, in fact it was agonizing, neither of them knowing exactly what to say, until Jiro finally racked her brain for something to bring up, "Oh right! Uh," the shy rocker rose the notebook back up to her face and flipped through it a little, finding a page with a posted note on the inside of it, "Would you recommend doing posted notes for my book, or do you think it'll make it too muddled?"

"Uh, I think it'd be useful to have them in there in case you forget to write something down, or just to add something in hindsight."

"Oh okay, right, I'll go do that now, see ya later freckles," she closed the book and turned back around, proceeding on her way.

"A-alright, see you later Jiro," he gave a tiny wave that she did not see but he just wanted to anyway. However, she suddenly slowed her pace and eventually stopped, looking over her shoulder to see him, her blush being back full force and body shaking a little, "H-hey Midoriya?"

"Hm?"

"Let's make that little girl happy," she closed her eyes, giving him smirk and raising her fist, to which he gave a thumbs up to with his own smirk.

"You got it!"

"Good…ya know what," she turned back toward him, readjusting her backpack straps as it was slipping a little with all the body language, "I may need some help formatting my notes for the band, so…if you aren't busy right now, you mind helping me out?"

"Oh…s-s-s-sure, I'd be happy to," he replied, his own body beginning to quake, steam almost coming out of his ears.

"G-great, shall we," she asked, giving him time to close the gap between them.

"W-w-we shall," he nodded, as they walked side by side toward the dorms, happy to be in each other's company.

"So, what kind of instrument do you see yourself playing?"

"Hmmm, not exactly sure. Maybe the oboe?"

"Nooooooooo."

"Wh-what?"

"You are not an oboe guy," she laughed.

"Okay then, what do you see me playing?"

"Mmmmmm the flute."

"Oooooooo I like the flute, even though I've never played," he admitted as he opened the main door for her.

"Well Mr. Gentleman, I could always teach you."

"Id really like that but uh…I'm pretty sure I'll sound like a bus crash."

"Oh I know, freckles, I know."

This was the first of many moments with Kyoka Jiro that played in Izuku Midoriya's head, as his body refused to move an inch after what happened. Despite this obviously being a problem, the memories were a nice distraction from his current condition…speaking of-

Now…

Location: Outside the 1-A Dorms.

Three members of the UA faculty were discussing the current problem on their hands, that of course being the tomato-faced sculpture that was Deku the Bone Breaker

Recovery Girl: So it's not a quirk problem?

Aizawa: No, my eyes would've cancelled out any affect that, not only that as far as I could tell he didn't wreck his body again, so he isn't in any kind of physical pain.

Recovery Girl: Hmmmmm that's odd, All Might you two are close, anything like this ever pop up when you talk?

All Might: Nope, if it ever did he certainly kept it to himself. I hope this isn't anything serious, I'd hate to think that he'd be stuck like this for a longer period of time.

Recovery Girl: Well you two do have VERY similar quirks (she winks at him twice), has anything similar to this ever happen to you before?

All Might: Ugh uhhhh, no my quirk never caused me to be catatonic before, even when I had received any kind of brain injury.

Recovery Girl: Truly curious…well I'll do a quick examination of him and try and see what the problem is.

The trio made it to the front doors, walking in as Aizawa held it open for them.

Recovery Girl: Hopefully nothing else has happened to hi-

The adults weren't exactly sure how to react to the current image they saw, a mix of irritation, anger, confusion, and…yeah they have no idea what to say about this. The event unfolding before them was Kaminari and Bakugo, plus Mina and Hagakure standing on opposite sides of a very long table, on top of said table was the catatonic Izuku Midoriya still stiff as a board, a cone shaped party hat strapped to his head, swirly sunglasses over his eyes, and his mouth gaping open with a mountain of cheese puffs stacked inside.

Kaminari: Come on Kacchan-

Bakugo: Call me that and I toss you next (he held a cheese puff up to his eye, trying to line up the shot with Deku's piehole)!

Kaminari: Okay got it, just remember chores for a week are riding on this maaaaaaaaan!

Bakugo: Shhhh im concentrating.

Mina/Hagakure: (Shaking their arms up and down) Miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, MISS, MISS MISS MISS MISS MISS MISS

Kaminari: BAKUGO TAKES THE SHOT!

The cheese puff flew through the air, sweat drops going down Mina's forehead, Bakugo gritted his teeth harder than he ever could, the puff seeming like it was going in slow motion as it made its way toward Midoriya.

Landing…SQUARE ON TOP OF THE PILE!

Mina: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Bakugo: YES EAT IT LOSERS FRIGGIN EAT IT YES!

Kaminari: (Starts dancing) WE DIIIIIID IT WE DID IT WE DID IT WE DID IT YEAH, IN YO FACE, IN YO FACE IN YO FACE IN YO-

Needless to say, all four were wrapped from head to toe in binding cloth, intensely gripped by their homeroom teacher, rage and methods of punishment ran through the man in blacks mind as he activated his quirk to indicate the teens had made a very severe mistake.

Aizawa: Say it, again!

Mina/Bakugo/Hagakure/Kaminari: People are not goal rings to use in an immature game, and we are very sorry Mr. Aizawa.

Aizawa: AGAIN WITH FEELING (Tightening the restraints).

All Four: Owwwwwww.

Aizawa: NO COMPLAINING!

End of Ch. 2

Author's Note: 2 in a row, feel like my old self again after writing this, i'm really happy to see that many of you enjoyed the first chapter of what is probably going to be concluded with the next one i do.

Also for those of who possibly didn't catch that I made a refence to volume 19 with the opening flashback in this chapter, and also used chapter 176 of the manga titled: Deku vs Gentle Criminal, where Deku thinks back to an interaction with him and Jiro where she wanted to learn how to take proper notes from him. I had always wanted to use that for a ship fic and enjoyed using it so much here.

Also to clarify a bit of the confusion of how I've been writing this story, I only do the script style format when i'm juggling a lot of characters at once, and will only do the traditional writing style ive been using when there is less than 4 or so characters in a section of the story. Ik its unconventional and may be a bit sloppy but I have a lot of fun doing it that way and it feels less muddled to me, sorry if thats not your jam.

Anyway Im gonna try and get chapter 3 of this story out by tomorrow, and i really hope you guys like this one.

As always stay safe, I hope you're having a nice day, and keep up the good work!

P.S. Im changing this chapter name bc i had a different idea when i first wrote this one and it eventually just turned into something else.
