There was a problem they had not previously considered, which was how to get them and all their guests, through St James Park and to the grounds of Buckingham Palace, unnoticed. Jenny and Vastra stood at the door of the TARDIS, staring out at the seemingly vast expanse of the park that they had to cover. It was filled with people. And Vastra had rid herself entirely of her veil. Jenny glanced back at their guests who were gathering behind them.

"A moment boy!" Strax pushed past them both and hurried as fast as a Sontaran could out into the park.

Jenny noticed too late that he had some sort of device in his hand. She swore but her voice was lost amid the deafening explosions and cracks of light that burst upwards from about two metres away from the TARDIS. They continued, she could just about see, along a path all the way to Buckingham palace. She winced as she heard screaming and dogs howling and the panicked whinnies of horses.

"Well we're safe in the TARDIS at least. Forcefield." The Doctor in the plimsolls sniffed as he watched the disarray from just behind Vastra.

Eventually the noise faded away and lights stopped sparking behind Jenny's eyes. There was something to be said about Strax's fireworks. Nothing could be more shocking than that. So she held out her arm to Vastra.

"Shall we, my darlin'?"

"Yes, my dear." Vastra took a deep breath and Jenny's arm and together they stepped out of the TARDIS. The park had almost been completely cleared of people. Jenny glanced around and saw a collapsed horse just outside the park with a dismayed cab driver standing beside it. Strax was waiting for them at the side gate to Buckingham Palace. After she heard the first shriek, she gripped Vastra's arm more firmly and kept her eyes resolutely on him. More shrieks and shouts of surprise followed as their guests came out after them. She risked a glance behind, once they were almost at the gate and saw Oscar Wilde, arm in arm with Jack Harkness, waving languidly at the crowds that had gathered to watch the procession. The black woman who'd accompanied the gentleman in the top hat was holding a small rectangular object up in the air as she walked. As was the young brown woman and the young black man who'd accompanied the woman in short blue trousers.

Jenny was distracted from such musings by Vastra sweeping her up into her arms and carrying her through as Strax swung the gates wide open. She heard a few cheers which made her feel better about the gaping they'd walked past. As soon as Vastra set her down, the guests crowded in after them, marvelling and delighting at being allowed inside Buckingham Palace. Thankfully Strax didn't seem to have any more fireworks planned and they managed to gain entrance to the "small" room Queen Victoria had lent them without any further explosions.

The "small" room in question was more than big enough to accommodate all their guests, although Jenny noticed there seemed to be a few more of them than she'd seen in the TARDIS's church. Assuming the Doctor had expanded the guest list, she ignored it and let Vastra pull her to the centre of the room to look at everything. The decorations were in competition with the room itself for lavishness. Half of the room was set up with round tables, covered with white tablecloths embroidered with flowers, the other half was empty, except for a raised platform covered with black boxes. Jenny was amazed that the Doctor had such artistic skills in arrangement and wondered whether Donna had helped a lot.

She turned back to the tables, watching as guests began to seat themselves. There appeared to be a brief argument about which place card with the name 'The Doctor' on was meant for which Doctor. Luckily, there were a few spare tables where invited guests had declined, and the extra Doctors and their companions sat down at them. At the opposite end of the platform there was a long rectangular table and Jenny and Vastra moved to sit down at it. The Doctor and Rose sat to Vastra's left, to Jenny's right sat George and Strax.

Jenny heaved a sigh of relief as she sat down. The nerve-wracking part appeared to be over. They were married. She tilted her head back and gazed at the ceiling, a laugh escaping her. They were married. She looked at Vastra and then leant over the small space between their chairs, pressing her grin against Vastra's.

Such was her happiness she didn't immediately pay attention to the small kerfuffle happening somewhere among the tables. Someone was yelling something. Strax leapt to his feet.

"You dare bring sins against God into the Queen's own palace? Explosions! Wickedness! Is there no end to it all?" the woman ranted on as she approached the main table.

When the gist of the shouting reached Jenny, she scowled. This was their own time, their ceremony. She threw her chair back and vaulted over the table, just as the intruder reached it. A cheer rang round the room as Jenny put her in a headlock, bending her arm behind her back.

"Come now, my dear." Vastra had stood up too. "No need for this unpleasantness." Jenny stared at her wife in disbelief. "Why don't we invite this young woman to join us? I, for one, would be glad to have her for dinner." She gave a toothy grin.

"Uhhh! Martha! Strax! You're the ushers, why don't you usher this young lady out." The Doctor leapt up from his table and ran towards the head table.

"Gladly sir! If I hadn't been forced to leave my weapons at home, I would gladly vaporise him. I've probably got a grenade about me somewhere."

"Just! Take her out Strax." Another Doctor ran up, gesturing for Jenny to release the woman.

With one final twist of the arm, Jenny let her go, brushing her hands together as if attempting to knock dirt off them. With her ability to breathe restored to her, the woman once again started off but Strax was not one to be out-bellowed and the unpleasantness faded swiftly as she was dragged away.

Jenny gave Vastra a quick hug before she returned to her seat, half angry that their day had been marred but determined more that it would not spoil it. The Doctor stood as soon as she'd sat down and clinked his spoon against his glass. She wasn't sure how it was full of champagne. Or whether it even was champagne. Vastra was staring at him, looking a little pale green. Jenny's eyes widened as she remembered technically this Doctor was Vastra's oldest friend. And was fulfilling the father of the bride role. She turned to share a grin with George before remembering he was fulfilling the role of Best Man. She fought the urge to slip down in her chair until she disappeared underneath the table.

Once the hall had fallen silent, and Martha and Strax had retaken their seats, the Doctor turned to grin at the newlyweds.

"Vastra is one of me oldest friends, and I've known Jenny for quite a while too now, so it fills me with great joy to see them both sat here, married. Wasn't quite what I imagined, but it's turned out even better than I expected. I didn't meet either of them at their best, it has to be said. Not at our first meeting at any rate. I saved them both, in my own way, and looking at them today, I'm glad I did. They've both come a long way. Jenny's gone from a criminal to investigator and Vastra used to eat people, and now she just eats Jenny."

Jenny went to share an agonised glance with Vastra at that, but Vastra was looking remarkably touched.

"I once asked you both to be good to each other, and clearly you've been good for each other as well, which is the best thing that could've happened. And I wish you long years where that continues. To Jenny and Vastra!" The Doctor lifted his glass, and the entire room stood up and bellowed it back.

Jenny could feel herself blushing as Vastra took her hand and smiled at her. The Doctor sat back down, and Jenny waited for her turn in the form of George. But there was a surprise as the Doctor in plimsolls stood up and made his way to the table. She frowned at him, confused as to what he was doing until he clinked his own champagne glass.

This time Vastra's face mirrored her expression of dread.

"The first time I met them both, as me at any rate, wasn't exactly the best of times either considering Vastra had just given Jenny a bloody nose. I mean it was by accident, but it was a bit of a dramatic moment to walk in on for the first introduction. Although I think rescuing the Queen was probably the most dramatic, particularly seeing as she'd technically banished me. Bit awkward. Yeah." He seemed to lose his thread. "Anyways. I've seen Vastra go from a Silurian with someone's arm hanging out her mouth to a Silurian who helps humans. And I can't take any of the credit for that, that's all the influence of and inspiration from Jenny Flint." He raised a glass in Jenny's direction. She felt like sinking through the floor, if only to avoid the murderous scowl on Vastra's face. "I couldn't get you out of your cage, Vastra, but you found someone who could, and I'm glad today that I could help give you another bit of freedom, by marrying you two. Jenny and Vastra!" he raised his glass, seemingly a bit too choked up to continue.

Their names together once again roared through the hall. Jenny waited, expecting it this time and yes, there was the longhaired Doctor standing up, bouncing excitably as his former self sat down.

"Right! Hi. First of all, shout out to whoever decorated the hall. Fab job. The first time I met Jenny and Vastra as me was a bit of a fraught time, but that's just me. Quite frankly it wasn't that exciting, not compared to getting married."

"Spoilers, dear!" River shouted from their table.

"Right! Yes. Former selves. But it's alright, you'll all forget about it. I tell you what I won't forget though. The amount of times I've walked in on these two smooching over the years. I think quite a few people have really."

There was a raucous cheer from the Irregulars and Jenny saw Vastra turn an even deeper shade of green.

"They never lock the door and they never answer it. Recipe for disaster." The Doctor flapped his hands in the air. "But! What isn't a recipe for disaster is the both of them. Together." He smiled at them. "They're a brilliant team. Jenny and Vastra! You'd definitely want them in your corner in a fight."

Jenny breathed a sigh of relief that it was over when he sat back down. Until the gentleman in the top hat got up and made his way to the table. The look her and Vastra shared was definitely one of utmost confusion. Another Doctor?

"When I first met Jenny and Vastra, as me, I was in a bit of trouble myself. And they returned the favour and looked after me, and my companion. They've done that a lot over the years, really. Well. Spoilers." He gave an awkward smile. "I wasn't technically invited but I remember being invited so I thought I'd invite myself. I see a few others have as well. And brought friends." He nodded to a few of the extra guests Jenny had noticed. "Always nice to see you." He was smiling at one woman in particular. "Lovely job on the hall by the way." The woman smiled back and gave a thumbs up. "I wanted to see this moment for myself because as much as it's nice to remember, it's better to live it again. And this always remains such a special moment to me. I mean to you as well! Obviously." he gestured at Jenny and Vastra.

"Doctor!" The young black woman hissed.

"Ah. Yes. Knew I should've gone with the cards." He coughed. "To Jenny and Vastra."

They waited as the somewhat confused cheers died down.

"Any more Doctors?" Vastra asked.

The woman in the short blue trousers got up at the same time as the short man in the straw boater. "Ooh! That's awkward." She laughed. "Um. Just wanted to say congratulations really. And sorry for all the speeches."

"I cannot really add to that but yes." The other Doctor tipped his straw boater and they both sat down again.

With a dramatic slow scraping of his chair, George stood up. "Now it's my turn ey?" he winked at Jenny. "It is lovely to see so many of Jenny and Vastra's family here today to share this occasion with them. To celebrate this point in their journey and to send them forth on its continuation with good cheer. I too have seen a remarkable growth in both of them, much the same as the Doctor has. In their attitudes, in their circumstances and also their love for each other. Not the most obvious match at the start ey? When I first saw this little scarecrow hopping after Vastra, I did not understand why Vastra was taking this penniless urchin in. I was amazed to find a week later that she was still with Vastra. She hadn't been eaten nor had she left. The weeks become months became years and here they are. Having seen the treatment Vastra has endured from people, it has been wonderful to see her not only caring for someone, but being cared for in return, with kindness and love and commitment. Long may it continue. And now! Let us eat!"

He returned to his seat with hearty applause for the sentiment. Jenny was glad too, after all the speeches, when doors suddenly opened, and waiters started coming in to serve them.

"Cor. This is all a bit posh innit." She leaned over to whisper to Vastra as a steaming bowl of soup was placed in front of her.

"Indeed. I wonder who planned all this. I can't imagine the Doctor doing so."

"He pointed to that lady over there earlier. Perhaps it was her."

"One can only imagine." Vastra shrugged, shooing away a waiter. She had no real interest in soup. She frowned for a moment and then turned to look at the waiters more closely. None of them seemed at all perturbed by the occasion. Nor shocked at seeing her. "Whoever it was clearly thought of every detail."

"Take it as a weddin' gift my darlin'." Jenny blew gently on her soup.

The second course was served and this time a waiter brought over a covered dish, taking off the metal lid to reveal small strips of meat. Vastra eyed them and then Jenny, who paused in devouring her pie to realise what Vastra was perturbed about. The Silurian still didn't really eat even in front of Jenny, let alone an entire hall of people. Yet Jenny didn't want her wife to go hungry on their wedding day. She swallowed her own mouthful and then delicately picked up a piece between her fingers and, with her hand cupped underneath to catch any blood (because she really didn't want to see Queen Victoria's face if there were bloodstains on the floor), she held it level with Vastra's mouth.

Vastra stared at her but found nothing but care in Jenny's eyes. Never losing eye contact, she leaned forward and snicked the entire piece into her mouth with her tongue. She chewed thoughtfully for a second, swallowed and then her tongue darted out to lick the few drops of blood from Jenny's fingers, making her wife's eyes go wide. Vastra was grateful for the gesture for it made her bold enough to eat the rest of her meal without further assistance from Jenny, although she declined to taste the lemon sorbet that was for dessert. Citrus and cold, neither of them her favourite things. Except when she tasted them on Jenny's lips when they kissed afterwards.
