This one is super short. Like less than 500 words. But I felt like I needed to put something out and I didn't have any other ideas. Well, I had other ideas, but I'm a little self-conscious about how they turned out and can't convince myself to post them (yet. I'll get them out eventually). Anyways, I hope you like it, even though it's really short. Kinda inspired by the "Obi-wan allergy" thingies. Kinda. Enjoy!
"Rex? Rex, don't leave." Cody pleaded. Rex's hands were firm on Cody's shoulders.
"I won't vod. I won't." Cody's breathing sped up.
"Rex?" He asked. Rex squeezed his shoulder.
"I'm here." Cody rubbed his forehead. He and Kenobi had just left a planet where an illness had been discovered. The Senate had demanded that they get vaccinations. Now Kenobi was fevered and Cody couldn't see. At all. Minor side-effects, yeah right.
"This-this is temporary, right?" Cody asked. He hated how uncertain he sounded, but if he couldn't see he would be sent back to Kamino. Termination. The word scared him.
"It's temporary, Cody. I'm here." Rex was rubbing circles on Cody's back. A door hissed open.
"Rex, I need you." It was Skywalker.
"Yes sir, I'll be there in a minute." Cody felt Rex's reluctance as his hand paused on Cody's shoulder. "I'll be back ner vod."
"Yeah. I'll be fine." Cody said, forcing confidence he didn't feel. Rex's hand left Cody and Cody was left in blackness and silence. Cody grasped the edge of the chair he was sitting on. It anchored him a little. He whispered into the darkness.
"Is anybody here?" There was no answer. Cody grasped for his comlink. He called a couple clones, but no one answered. He wasn't panicking, Cody told himself. He was just bored. He didn't believe himself. Finally, Cody called Rex.
"Are you okay?" Rex asked.
"Yeah. I was worried my com wasn't working. No one's picking up."
"General, can I go?"
"I need you for a few more minutes!" The general's voice was strained.
"Is this really that important?" Rex sighed.
"Rex, follow your orders." Cody said. "I'm fine."
"Sure. General, I need to go. There are hundreds of other clones who can help you with this. I need to be there for my brother."
"Oh." Skywalker sounded surprised. "Sorry, Rex, I didn't realize. Fives, give me a hand, will you?"
"Sure thing, general!"
"I'll be there soon, Cody." Rex said. Cody sighed in relief.
"Thanks, Rex. You shouldn't have—"
"No, Cody. Don't say that." The com shut off. Moments later the door hissed open and Rex's footsteps crossed the room.
"I'm here, Cody."
"Thanks, Rex'ika." Cody said. Rex groaned.
"Cody!" Rex seemed to think he'd outgrown the Mando'a endearment that meant "little Rex". Cody chuckled.
"C'mon, Rex." He held out his hand. "You know you're always gonna be my little brother."
"Aw, fine." Rex took his hand and sat next to him. "I could sing you a lullaby." Cody could picture the smirk on his brother's face.
"Please don't. I don't understand how you can sound so bad when we all have the same voice." Cody grinned. Rex laughed.
"You're just jealous."
"Sure…"
Three days later, Cody began to see again. Three days in which Rex had made sure Cody was never alone.
