It (looked to be) was an average day at the host club. Each host was busy preparing their own designation space in the clubroom, careful to not upset the two distraught hosts.
"Hey." That is until Haruhi disrupted the silence. "Where's Kagome?"
"Haruhi!" The twins and Tamaki quickly pulled the girl to the side while they pressed their index finger to their lips. "Shhh!" The three idiots looked over their shoulder to peek at the two for their reaction.
'Ah, that's what they meant.' Haruhi, thought.
Mori was pushing a cart with desserts but had stopped to gaze at the window.
Honey who was setting the table was now resting his head on it.
"Indeed, Taisho-san hasn't returned for a week."
"Kyoya!" Tamaki chastened his friend.
With Kyoya's nonchalant words the two stirred from their frozen state.
Mori pushed his cart towards Honey and left him, his favorite strawberry shortcake.
The shorter third year took in a deep breath, stuffing his cheeks with air instead of the cake on the table.
Mori then tried to make his way to the other hosts' tables but ended up tripping on some silverware that Honey had dropped. Leading the giant host to uncharacteristically faceplant onto the floor.
The two looked absolutely pitiful.
"You-"
Tamaki hid behind Kyoya while the twins hid behind Haruhi, to brace themselves from Honey's words.
"Y-you guys," He paused as if hesitant. "think Kagome-chan is sick?"
Mori left out a big sigh. It seems his thoughts were the same as his cousin.
"Eh, that's it?" The twins stepped out of their hiding spot.
"You guys are insensitive!" Haruhi hit the twins on the head.
"What?!"
Kyoya pushed up his glasses before answering, "Taisho-san mentioned before, she had to repeat a year due to being frequently absent because of her sickness."
"Ahh…" The twins realized their mistake.
"Senpais, I'm sure Kagome is fine." Haruhi smiled to try to reassure them. "I bet she'll be back in school soon. I'm, sure of it." The last part sounded as if the girl was saying it to herself.
Haruhi didn't want to admit but she too was worried for her friend.
The dejected look on Haruhi's face made the other hosts realize the gravity of the situation.
"..."
Mori got up and gave the fallen silverware back to Honey. Then urged his cousin to eat by pushing the cake closer to him.
The rest of the hosts soon crowded around the two's table and each took a seat while Haruhi and Mori served tea and sweets.
Tamaki started their discussion. "Has anyone at least visited her?"
Silence was met with the question.
"It's not that we don't want to boss-"
"But rather-"
"We don't know where she lives."
"No one knows, really?" Tamaki turned his attention to the third years."What about you, Honey-senpai, surely you've been there before."
"Actually," He squirmed in his seat. "...we've never been there before. Right, Takashi."
His cousin nodded his head.
"But she's your fiancée." Haruhi reasoned.
"Now that you mention it." Honey started to play with the cake on his plate. "Kagome-chan is always the one that meets up with us. Never the other way around."
Silence once again enveloped the room.
"Oi, are we even considered to be her friends?" Hikaru rubbed the back of his neck, in irritation.
"Hikaru!" Kaoru warned his twin.
"No he's right." All of the hosts looked at their usual stoic host. "We don't know much about her."
They really didn't. Even though they all hung out on several occasions, Kagome Higurashi, no Kagome Taisho, didn't disclose that much info about herself.
Perhaps, they were all disillusioned to think, they were getting closer to the girl.
"Takashi…" Honey could tell their discussion made his cousin more upset.
Their recent visit to Haruhi's place seemed like a big milestone in their relationship with Kagome Taisho. She was showing different sides of herself, that they didn't know about.
'Was it really all a lie?'
"..."
Noticing the heavy air in the clubroom, Tamaki cleared his throat. "Everyone!" He clapped. "Let's hurry and get ready for club. If Kagome-san is coming back, we have to keep doing what we're doing, so the club is still up and running when she gets back. After all, Kagome-san is also a member of our club."
"...Kagome-san wouldn't want us to be upset…" Mori mumbled before he got up to clear the table. He agreed with Tamaki's words.
During their excursion to the beach, Mori knew they had to be cautious on how they dealt with the girl. At the time, she was always wary whenever she was interacting with them. She didn't let them see her without her cloak, nor did she tell them she was associated with the Taisho family.
Kagome Hig….Taisho, always kept her distance.
But looking back at everything that's happened, their relationship with her had grown closer.
So, they should wait for her to return. They shouldn't rush getting to know her, but let her take as much time she needs to get used to them.
...or at least that's what Mori thought they should do.
"Ne, Takashi let's go on up." His cousin pointed to a flight of stairs leading to a shrine.
The name of the shrine?
It was Higurashi Shrine.
How did his cousin even find the place?
Not waiting for his answer, his cousin took him by the arm to drag him up the stairs.
Mori would be lying if he said that he wasn't the least bit interested in going to check on the girl.
But...they shouldn't just barge in!
"Ding dong"
"?!" His cousin had already rang the bell?!
"..."
Perhaps no one was home.
Scuffles of a tatami mat were soon heard meaning, someone was indeed home and was coming to answer the door.
Not knowing what to do, Mori's eyes darted around until they fell upon his feet.
"Hello?" The voice sounded like a young boy?
Mori's head quickly shot up.
At the door was a younger boy who was a bit shorter than Honey. Perhaps it was a relative of her's since he shared similar characteristics with her. They had the same eye color but his hair was more black and didn't have a dark midnight blue tint.
" What do you...want?" The boy closed the door a bit warily, due to his staring.
"We want to see Kagome-chan~ We go to the same school as her." Honey chimed in to ease the awkward tension.
"Sorry, but Kagome doesn't want to see anyone from school right now." The boy made a move to slowly close the door.
Swiftly, Honey propped his foot to the door. " Tell her, Mitsukuni and Takashi are here."
The boy still looked like he wasn't going to help them.
"Shippo gave us permission to come."
At Honey's words the boy looked more relaxed. "Then, I'll give your message to her. Please wait here for a bit." He closed the door.
"..."
The younger boy soon came back in better spirits with a grin on his face. "She said since it's just the two of you, you guys could come in. I'm Souta by the way. I'm Kagome's younger brother."
Souta opened the door then lightly hit Mori. "Hey, you should have told me!" A playful grin was on his face.
"?" Mori looked back to him questionly.
"Ey!" Souta nudged him to the side again, his grin widening. "You should have told me you were sis's fiancé, Mitsukuni-san!"
"Ah"
"..."
He quickly shook his head.
Honey wore a smile.
"You can't fool me! Kagome just told me she's engaged to a guy named Mitsukuni and you look like sis's type. You're tall and you look strong."
At the word "type" Honey's smile contorted into a more unnatural smile. "Ne, Souta. Could you show us where Kagome-chan is?"
Ah, his cousin was pissed.
