So, this is one of the stories I've been discussing in my last couple of updates. Yay we're back to spectacles! :D However, I've decided that in this new theme of me doing things that challenge me, this story is going to be a slow-burn Lancaster because just because. Well, enough ranting from me and let's just see how this one works out. Let's gooo!

Disclaimer: Don't own RWBY I just like sandboxes.

Chapter One: The Start Of A Friendship

A soft breeze passed over the trees, making them sway slightly. The cool afternoon being recognizable by this as well as the sightly overcast conditions that had been presented in the skies above. In the midst of all this was the Huntsman Academy, Beacon. Right in the middle of Beacon was a large tower where the headmaster's office resided. Inside this tower, a lone individual known as Professor Ozpin currently stood by the window at the back end, his gaze downturned to the empty courtyard below him. Slowly the scene draws away from this figure, whom is wearing a thoughtful smile on his face out to the Bullhead currently pulling into the docks on the other side of the Academy. Its wings parted slightly and the large aircraft lowered itself down into the bay.

One individual in particular was relieved to realize that this was the case. A young man, Jaune Arc. His experience during the journey here had been a most unpleasant one to say the least and he was so eager to escape from the flying death-trap as he might've called it that he was almost out of the aircraft as fast as the doors themselves opened. He sprinted across the cemented flooring beneath him, seeking out the sweet release that could only be given from the closest trash can which he promptly leaned over and emptied his stomach into. A low groan rolled off his lips but Jaune was eventually able to pull himself back up once the vomiting had subsided and aside from slightly belabored breathing, the Arc seemed to be okay for the most part.

"Made it," he vocalized weakly. Jaune turned his head, taking this opportunity to make sure that his scabbard was still firmly attached to his belt and his subsequent exhale of relief indicated that such was the case and after this point he was able to turn away from that. He'd survived, now all he had to do was. Boom. An explosion already? Yikes, well, at least there was someone having a worse day than him he guessed. Jaune slowly walked towards the source of the sound only to find that a young woman outfitted primarily in Red had collapsed to the ground after witnessing another girl with long dark hair walking away from her.

"Hey," Jaune offered gently, holding a gloved hand out to the downed girl, "I'm Jaune."

The girl moved to take his hand, Jaune slowly pulling her to her feet and much to the young man's chagrin, the first thing to come out of her mouth was, "Aren't you the guy who threw up on the ship?"

There was a sigh that came out of his lips. Jaune knew that was going to bite him in the ass and it'd not even been five minutes since he arrived at Beacon. This was a new record, even for his bad luck. He rubbed his index and middle fingers against his temple, "Look, Motion Sickness is a surprisingly common problem. Besides, I'm not the one who exploded."

"Hey, that was an accident!" the girl threw at him indignantly, her arms being held down to her sides. Jaune noticed that she was clenching her fists and also sported what he admittedly thought was both an adorable and amusing puppy-dog pout. In that moment, though he never thought the moment would come, Jaune Arc was thankful to have grown up with seven sisters because after living in a house where that specific method was used almost exclusively to capitalize on Jaune's soft spot he'd soon learned to become resistant to the look.

"Well, the name's Jaune Arc. What about you?"

"What about- oh, oh!" Ruby's cheeks became tinted with pink as she realized what he was asking, an embarrassed flush on her face that she'd missed the social cue. Sighing some at herself, the diminutive girl looked up to Jaune and smiled nervously, "I'm er-Ruby Rose. It's nice to meet you, Jaune."

"You too, Ruby. Shall we go and figure out where we need to be for Orientation?"

Ruby didn't answer the boy's question vocally, but she instead nodded, however in this moment her silvery gaze shifted onto the scabbard of Jaune's weapon and her eyes popped a little. The Reaper suddenly thinking she had an idea of how to 'break the ice' so to speak. She reached back and released her weapon, opening up what looked, in Jaune's opinion, to be like a Garden Scythe...except it was much more suited to battle than gardening.

"That's a scythe," he stated simply.

"It's also a customizable high-impact sniper rifle!"

"A gun?"

"It's also a gun," Ruby confirmed, her bright eyes filled with happiness that her new friend seemed to appreciate her weaponry. This was going so much better than she thought it might, "So, what've you got?"

"Oh, just this old thing," Jaune said, sounding somewhat disappointed, "It's more of a family heirloom than a weapon." He pulled the definitely ancient looking sword from the confines of the scabbard, a low sigh emitting from his lips, "My grandfather used it to fight in the war. I've got a great respect for this weapon but I miss my usual one."

"Usual one?" Ruby asked him curiously.

"Yeah, the mecha-shift component shattered during a training match so I was forced to send it off for repairs. Dad said that he'd have it posted to Beacon for me once the repairs are finished."

"No hints?" Ruby asked.

"It's...a complicated design, that's all I'll say."

"Hey, no fair!"

Laughing some, Jaune threw his hands onto the back of his head, slowly starting to walk off in the direction that he saw multitudes of people who'd exited the airship walking towards. The logical move in his opinion is to follow them, because there had to be someone out of them who knew the way to the auditorium, right?

End Chapter.

A little more information on this story. This Jaune didn't fake his way in and was trained in a smaller huntsman academy near his family's village, more on that Academy will be revealed in future chapters and for now, I hope you enjoyed the chapter. Sorry about the short length. People who've read my other stories will know that I tend to start small and slowly expand out as I have more to write about. Well then folks, see you next time.
