This story is a sequel to one I wrote earlier. If you haven't read the story 'I am Hawkmoth Now!' s/13578999/1/I-am-Hawkmoth-Now you might not understand some of the events in this story. Otherwise, I'll try to summarize as best as I can here. With that out of the way, please enjoy.
Marcus walked briskly down the streets of Paris. He didn't want to get home late again, Kayla would kill him if he showed up late eight days in a row. He carried a bag of groceries in his hand and hung his backpack over the other shoulder to keep some balance. The sun was beginning to set as he passed in front of the news tower. Normally he would've taken the subway, but he felt like some fresh air would do him good tonight.
His phone rang and he looked to see who was calling, it was Kayla. He quickly answered.
"Hello, my darling," he stated in an overly formal tone, "are you having a most pleasant evening tonight?"
"It just got better when you answered like that." She replied, Marcus knew she was smiling on the other end. "Where are you right now?"
"I'm passing the news station, I thought I'd get a nice walk in on the way home."
"Oh, you just missed it then. Ladybug and Chat Noir battled one of my Villains near there."
"Really?" Marcus remarked. "a third night as Ladymoth, what a busy bee you've become. Who did you create? What was their powers? How did it go?"
"Shh!" Kayla hissed at him through his phone. "I know you don't have me on speaker, but people might get suspicious if they hear you saying those things."
"Relax, nobody's around. Like you said, the fight wrapped up. So… what are the details?"
"Fine," she sighed in a joking manor, "I gave this guy sonic powers and called him Boom Guy, he did pretty well too. I think he may have knocked out Chat Noir or something because I didn't see him near the end of the fight."
"Ooh, now I wish I'd seen it."
"It was pretty cool, now hurry up! If you're out by the news station, then you won't get home before seven by walking."
"Before I hang up, I have a question to ask." Marcus stated. "Do you think the city's gotten better or worse since we took over Hawkmoth's job?"
"Well, on one hand, we are using the amazing power of this jewel to play pranks on Paris instead of actively endangering it, on the other hand, Mayura's attacks have become more frequent after Gabriel's arrest. So I don't think much has actually changed here.
"Alright, if that's the way you feel about it. I'll be there before seven, love you." With that, he hung up and began to jog down the sidewalk, his bag and pack swinging erratically around him. He only made it ten feet when he stepped on something odd. He turned around to see a small metallic object on the ground. He went back and picked it up, it was a ring. It was bright silver and larger than most of the rings he'd seen in his life. He noticed a flat circle for the head and thought a gem probably once sat there. He had no time to look for it though, or even to ask how it got there, he clenched the ring in his free hand and ran off towards home.
