38. Everyone thinks we're already dating, but we're just best friends- oh wait

It's their first gig out of town so it's only right they splurge on themselves. Sure, they're not getting paid nearly enough to play this shitty dive bar and between transport and accommodation costs they're actually losing money tonight, but it's a milestone moment. Tonight's not about money, it's about them being musicians that are good enough to book gigs outside of their hometown, where they can fill a floor with total strangers and not count on their friend's being half the audience.

So they book this town's only four-star hotel. It's a glamourous place, the kind of hotel where you don't bring your own luggage up to your rooms and apart from a little trouble with the booking, why did the receptionist assume they wanted a double room when they'd booked a room with two singles? Everything has been perfect.

After checking in early and enjoying the complimentary gift basket, they make their way to the hotel restaurant for dinner. They could've order room service but they've lounged around for enough of the day, they ought to stretch their legs a little before the gig.

The hostess greets them with a warm smile and directs them to a table for two that's decorated with lit candles and a floral arrangement of different coloured roses.

"Yeah, this hotel is definitely for couples," Castiel says, peering out from over his menu and tilting his head in the direction of a nearby table with a laugh, "They're on a romantic getaway and here I am cheapening the look of the look of the place."

"That must be why they thought we wanted a double room."

Castiel guffaws, his shoulders rising and falling as he laughs. "Fuck you're right. Didn't know we gave off that vibe."

From there things settle back down, Castiel orders steak and Lysander the duck, and their conversation moves firmly into tonight's performance. They run through the setlist one last time, determined to get things exactly right, and the more they discuss it the more their confidence builds.

When the hostess returns to clear the table she asks if they'd like dessert and they both mull it over.

"I don't know if I could eat a whole other course," Castiel says.

Lysander hums in agreement. "I'd be sluggish tonight if I ate a whole slice of cheesecake."

"Want to split it?"

The hostess leaves and quickly returns with a single slice of strawberry cheesecake and two sets of cutlery. She moves the candles aside and sets the plate between them.

The slice only has one strawberry atop it and before Lysander can so much as grab a fork, Castiel speaks. "Go on, you can have the strawberry."

The hostess, still in sight of them smiles back towards them. "Aww, you two are so sweet."

Castiel eyes widen in surprise and he takes a moment to process her words before speaks again, cracking a joke simply to break the silence. "Here I was thinking our only chemistry was on stage."

Castiel eats the rest of his dessert in silence think that if everyone seems to sense something between them, could they all be wrong?
