After another fruitless try to reach her mother, Jane decided to get ready for the night out. At least Marcella wasn't with Gabriel anymore. And it would heighten her chances if it really came to a battle about custody. At least she hoped so.
Coming out of the shower she shrieked. „No, you can't wear that." Jane stated when seeing Maura's choice of clothes for their night out.
"Why? What's wrong with the outfit?" the blonde asked puzzled and glanced down at herself.
"Oh my. How can I say this?" Jane mumbled. "It's too fancy Maur." She finally stated and Maura already opened her mouth to protest. But the brunette held her back by signing stop with her hand. Instead of saying what was wrong, Jane grabbed the Jeans and shirts she had borrowed to her friend before and gave them to her. "This will be much better." She chuckled.
"If you say so." Maura muttered insecure.
"I do. Believe me, you will be thankful." Jane winked. Not that she had much experience with going out, but she knew what she wanted. And that was not just a fancy bar which Maura probably usually frequented, but one where they could have more fun. With loud music, dancing and dart.
Jane chose a pair of dark Levis and a white button-up shirt with a tank top underneath for herself. Back to the bathroom she took her time to get dressed and decided to put on some decent make-up.
R&I
Maura was indeed thankful for Janes recommendation of clothes when they walked into the crowded nightclub because she would have been totally overdressed for this place. "First drink is on me." Jane shouted the words into the blondes' ear. Her cheek touched the docs and she shivered in delight. Maura grinned. "Okay."
"What would you like?" Jane yelled again to make herself heard over the loud music and when a stream of people threatened to pull them apart, she grabbed Maura's hand to keep her from drifting away. She felt their fingers entwine and smiled sheepishly.
She ordered two sex on the beach which made Maura give her a cheeky grin. "Good choice, detective." The blonde whispered to her ear and her perfume tickled Janes nose. The brunette grinned. "Thank you. If it wasn't for you, I would have never discovered how great it tastes."
Maura wasn't shy with touches either. The games were on and they both enjoyed the teasing and flirting. Jane had to remind herself now and then that none of them wanted a relationship. Maura didn't want to, and she couldn't. But nothing held them back from having a bit fun and teasing.
Jane showed Maura how to play dart. She stood behind the petit and held her arm by the wrist and showed her how to throw. Her free hand was casually resting on the doc's hips until the blonde took it and wrapped it around herself so that it came to rest on her stomach. Jane had to take a step forward but of course didn't mind when Maura used the opportunity to rest her back against her front.
After Maura had won for the third time in a row Jane got suspicious. "You have played dart before, haven't you?" she asked over the second cocktail and Maura giggled. "Maybe. But everybody plays different. I thought you could teach me your way." She winked and Jane snorted.
"I didn't get the impression that you minded." Maura chuckled and took a sip after nudging Jane who was standing next to her at the bar. Jane snorted again. But it was only playfully. Losing against the doc was totally okay. She also took another sip and watched the people on the dance floor.
"Do you want to dance?" Maura asked her when seeing where Janes eyes had gone.
"I'm not a good dancer." Jane warned her friend but hopped of the chair and offered Maura her hand.
"Your body is perfect. Its scientifically proven that people with a good bone structure are great dancers." Maura stated with a wink.
"Stop complimenting me, Maur. I can't get used to it. Who will compliment me at home when you are not there?" Jane replied with a serious pout and a slight blush.
Maura gave her a small smile. "I will. That is if we manage to keep in touch and if you want that."
"Of course, I want to keep in touch." Jane blurted out. How couldn't she? "So, I can tell you how gorgeous you are whenever you need it."
Janes face split into a soft smile. "You are really sweet, you know that?"
R&I
The evening had been really fun, and Jane felt like newborn when she awoke to the alarm the next morning. Maura was shifting next to her with a groan. Her comment about being woken so early made Jane laugh.
"Come on. We have a lot of stuff to do. We need to be prepared when we meet our dear friends later." Jane said with a grin, nudging the blonde gently.
"Oh yeah. I almost forgot that we wanted to make a list of suspects." The blonde mumbled while rubbing her eyes.
"Did someone have too much alcohol last night?" Jane couldn't resist to tease her. She earned one of Maura's glares. "Obviously, you are absorbing the cocktails better than I am." Was the muffled reply out of the cushions next to her.
"It was fun. I'm totally relaxed now." Jane said while slipping out of bed to get dressed in the bathroom.
"It was fun indeed. We should do it again before… you know." Jane knew what Maura meant. She too began to dread the day the vacation was over. And there was a lot of work to do. Frost had texted her while they had been asleep that the victim wasn't who he pretended to be. Another man who had died twice. But the good news was that they had managed to match his fingerprints to a certain Louis Fandango.
That was a start. "The name rings a bell." Maura said when reading Frosts text. Jane could see that she tried to remember hard in which context she had heard of the man but couldn't come up with the reason why it sounded familiar.
"May I?" she asked pointing to the brunette's phone who nodded. "Sure." She stretched out her body and rolled closer to the blonde to take a look over her friends' shoulder.
It took Maura less than 15 seconds to find the information she was looking for on google. "Look at that!" she said, and Jane leant further in to read the opened browser page. "Louis Fandango was a suspect in a heist a few years ago. They caught him but always suspected that he hadn't committed the crime alone. He never gave up his companions names though and was released from prison because he got sick." Maura cited from her memory. Jane inhaled deeply. Not because of work but because she loved how the blonde smelled. The perfume was tickling her nose in a very pleasant way.
She finally pulled away to grab her notepad to jot down the new information. "I presume we have found the rest of the clan." She mumbled while adding the names of the five people they had visited the previous afternoon. "And I think it's safe to say that they all travel among a false name. We somehow need their fingerprints Maur."
"Do I feel your criminal energy rising again?" the blonde said in mocked shock.
"What? Excuse me! I'm working in law enforcement. I have no criminal energy!" Janes voice was playfully indignant.
"But you will admit that you bend the law here and there?" the doc chuckled.
"If you want to put it that way…" They both laughed and Jane knew that she would miss their morning banters once she was back in Boston. She caught a wink from Maura when she glanced up to give her a grin.
Maura checked for the time when she heard Janes stomach rumble. "I think its time for breakfast." She said with a smirk. "Good, I'm starving. But first we need to work out a plan how to get the fingerprints and then how to send them to Frost."
Maura rolled her eyes, but Jane knew that Maura was a huge fan of small undercover operations. The plan was simple: Take the glasses from the breakfast tables, organize a fingerprint kit from Dr. Nasari or the local police and get them to Frost.
One hour later, Jane wished that the plan would be really as simple as they had thought. It turned out that the old people suddenly felt the need to help the servants by bringing their plates and mugs to the carts themselves.
"Damn it!" Jane muttered under her breath once they were in the elevator. They hadn't even managed to get one single mug or glass. The only thing they could deduct from this was that they were on the right track. Why else would they suddenly make a habit to bring away their dishes and not leave them on the table like they had done for almost two weeks now.
"you look absolutely cute when your angry." Maura stated with a grin. "But only from the point of an innocent person. Hell, I don't want you ever to be angry at me."
Jane glanced down into hazel eyes and chuckled. Maura had called her cute. Yeah, now they were flirting shamelessly, and she wondered if it was due to the fact that they had both agreed that a relationship was out of question. Was this also the factor which made it all so fun for them?
They walked out of the elevator to find their room ransacked. So, yes. They were finally on the right track. "Old people can be so mean." Jane joked while picking up her stuff from the floor. "They all look so innocent and nice, but they are monsters in reality."
Maura huffed. "They destroyed my Jimmy choo shoes. Who does that?"
"Fashion killers?" Jane was joking, but only to make Maura feel better. She wasn't to let them frighten her. But it was highly annoying and insecure to see how they put a black mamba into Maura's bed and now ransacked their place. Jane knew that they were dangerous people. Not only because they had already killed two men, but also because they had clearly threatened Maura right from the start.
The question was if the killers were from the suspicious group or other people. Who would do this she asked herself, hoping that Maura would stay calm?
How did they come in anyways she asked herself. And how far would they go? Would they try to kill them? She gave Maura a concerned look and decided to keep an eye on her to make sure that the blonde was safe.
Said blonde was highly annoyed when seeing what they had done to her favorite blouse. "I will kill them!" she mumbled. "No, you're not." Jane gently said. She didn't know the blonde well enough to know if she could get so angry that she would blow up their cover. Her guts said no. But this was far too delicate to rely on her intestines.
"Anger is very bad. We need to keep calm and not let them provoke us. We can't afford to make a mistake, Maur." Jane said after taking a breath.
"I know Jane. I'm just trying to get rid of some tension." The blonde snapped which made Jane drop the pile of clothes she had collected so far to the nearby chair and walk over to her friend.
"It's scary, but we can do this okay?" she gently whispered while wrapping her arms around the petite who voluntarily moved into the offered embrace to nestle her head against Janes neck. The brunette stroke over her head while whispering more soothing words while wondering if Cavanaugh would be okay with sending her a gun.
