Chapter 41: Come the Conqueror

In the streets of New York City, people were walking the streets going about their everyday lives. Amongst those people were Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, enjoying a relaxing afternoon walking in Central Park.

"Gotta say," Peter spoke up. "This is pretty nice. Just the two of us enjoying the day."

"I'll say," Gwen agreed. "I'm glad Mr. Stark gave you some time off. Feels like I barely see you these days."

"I know, and I'm sorry about that. This internship is keeping me busier than the Bugle."

"You know, maybe you should drop the Bugle thing. Stark is paying you, isn't he?"

"He, uh… he says we're not there yet. But once things get going, I'm ditching the Bugle in a heartbeat. Probably pays better too."

"Of that, I have no-"

Suddenly, a large shadow loomed over them, making both teens slowly look up. Peter's spidey senses went crazy at the sight of massive ships filling the sky.

"What are those?" Gwen let out.

"Trouble," Peter lamented.

In the X-Mansion, Logan's sitting on the couch in the media room watching football with several other members of the X-Men. X-Gene passes him a beer, freshly chilled by Ice Man.

"Top off?" she offered.

"Thanks," Logan replied, taking the beer.

As he took a hearty swig, the football game was interrupted by an emergency broadcast.

"We interrupt our regularly scheduled program for this important news bulletin. A series of strange ships are appearing all across the world. Citizens are warned to remain in their homes and away from public areas."

"Oh boy..." Ice Man let out. "So much for football."

"Sorry popsicle," Logan remarked, extending his claws. "Duty calls."

Back out in the city, the ships started depositing hundreds of blue and gold ships that flew down to the streets below, blasting at everything in sight. As some of the ships got closer to the ground, some converted into massive robots with long arms that had claws on the end. These robots fired lasers from their chests that caused the citizens to run in terror. As the ships rained down over the city, Peter and Gwen ran towards a nearby coffee shop.

"What's going on?!" Gwen cried out. "It's the Battle for New York all over again!"

"Except I have a feeling it's gonna be much worse," Peter dreaded. "Stay here. I'm gonna see if there's anyone else out there."

"Peter, are you insane?!" She grabbed his arm, trying to stop him. "You can't go out there! You'll be killed!"

"I'll be fine. I promise."

Peter managed to pull himself free from her grip as he ran outside. Once he was safely out of sight of people, he jumped onto the wall of a building and climbed, grabbing a backpack he kept webbed to the wall. He opened it, pulling out his costume. He began getting dressed as he grabbed his Avengers ID card.

"Avengers! We've got a problem! A really big problem!"

Elsewhere in the city, more and more robots continue marching through the streets, blasting at everything and everyone that got in their way, including arriving military forces. The army opened fire with their guns and tanks, but they seemed to have no effect. One of the robots grabbed a tank and tore it apart with its mechanical hands, then turned its attention on the rest of the tanks. It opened fire with its laser, only for Captain America to land on top of the tank and block the blast with his shield. Cap then threw the shield at the robot, slicing right through it and causing it to explode as the shield returned to his hands.

"Avengers Assemble!"

As the robots closed in on Cap, Hulk leapt down from the sky and landed right on top of the robots, tearing right through it as he pulled it apart. While he was doing that, several ants flew down and made their way inside another one of the robots, devouring it's circuits until it just collapsed. The ants disembarked from the husk of a robot as Ant-Man flew in alongside them.

"This is insane," Ant-Man commented. "Who could be capable of an attack on this scale?"

"Puny God again?" Hulk suggested, tossing the remnants of the robot aside.

"Nah," Spider-Man remarked, swinging in and pulling a soldier to safety. "This attack seems a lot more coordinated than the Chitauri's random shooting from before."

As Spider-Man landed on the ground, another robot approached him. Suddenly, it's chest split open, revealing Black Panther clawing his way outside.

"Also note the robot's Egyptian styling," He observed, leaping out. "More likely this is Kang!"

"Stupid future man?!" Hulk bellowed.

"One and the same," Hawkeye confirmed, taking his place on a rooftop and firing one explosive arrow after another. "You'd think he'd learn his lesson after we sent him packing last time."

"If he's behind this, then we need to find him," Cap spoke up.

Up in the air, Thor tossed his hammer at the invading ships, destroying several as it returned to his hand. Falcon was right by his side, activating razor feathers on his wings that he used to slice through the wing of an incoming ship.

"I've flown in my fair share of dog fights," Falcon commented. "But this has to take the cake."

"Verily," Thor agreed. "This is a battle the likes of which Midgard has never seen. How fair thee, Wasp?"

"I need bigger stingers," she answered, shooting at the robots.

"All airborne Avengers, converge on my location," Iron Man instructed. "The S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier is under fire. I need immediate support."

"On our way, shellhead," Falcon replied.

"No rest for the weary," Wasp remarked.

Meanwhile, the Helicarrier was getting hammered on by the barrage of ships surrounding it.

"Director," an agent reported. "The Helicarrier is getting hit from all sides. Shields are completely ineffective."

"Begin evacuation procedures and get Coulson's team on the line. I want them on the ground in 5!"

"Ma'am, incoming!" another agent let out.

Maria turned and saw several ships charging right at them. Before they could make contact, Iron Man arrived and used his unibeam to disintegrate them.

"You took your time."

"Hey, traffic's worse than normal. The Helicarrier is a sitting duck out here, Hill. You need to get clear of the city. The Avengers can handle it from here."

"Way ahead of you. Coulson's team will meet you on the ground to offer support."

"Thanks. I think we're gonna need all the help we can get."

At that moment, Thor arrived, plowing through several more ships as he joined with Iron Man.

"You called for aid?"

"Good timing, Thor. You seem to be on point today."

"With the Earth at stake, I cannot afford not to be. Besides, the Hulk boasted that he would smash more machines than I. He is sorely mistaken."

"As much as I enjoy some friendly competition, I hope it isn't distracting from the task at hand."

"Fear not, I am focused."

"Tony," Cap called over comms. "We think Kang is behind this attack. Think you can confirm?"

"Give me a sec," Tony replied. "JARVIS, scan one of those ships."

"Scanning sir." Tony's view screen lit up. "Confirmed. Technology matches that of Kang's time chair."

"Cap, you were right. The ships, the robots, it's all-"

"Did you really think I would be beaten so easily?"

The two Avengers turned to see the floating holographic head of Kang appearing before them.

"Kang," Thor swore.

"I told you Avengers that I would save this world. Only under my leadership will Earth be strong. It will stand against what is to come. I have been learning the strengths and weaknesses of your era's defenses, and now… the true conquest begins."

Back with the ground based Avengers, they had just finished off the last of the robots as they all regrouped.

"So that's… what? Fifty seven down, three thousand five hundred and sixty more to go?" Spidey jeered.

Just then, the robots started picking themselves up, their various gashes and dents repairing themselves. Spidey's eyes drooped behind his mask.

"That's not good…"

"They're regenerating," Ant-Man realized. "They're self-repairing, this was all an act. We never even made a dent."

"This… is beyond unfair," Spidey went on. "How are we supposed to stop these things if they fix themselves every time?"

"Keep knocking them down until they don't wanna get up anymore," Hawkeye suggested, firing an arrow at one.

Ant-Man quickly grew giant sized and began smashing every robot in sight, with some of their arms wrapping around him and pulling him to the ground. Seeing the situation unfold, Cap began forming a plan.

"Hawkeye, Panther, clear us a path! Spider-Man, Hulk, help Giant-Man!"

The group nodded as Hawkeye and Panther set out to destroy more robots.

"Ready, bug man?" Hulk asked.

"Gamma irradiated before beauty," Spidey replied, gesturing forward.

Hulk just grumbled as he leapt towards Giant-Man, only for a passing robot to run into him and carry him off.

"Well… that's a problem," Spider-Man realized as he swung off.

Hawkeye meanwhile ran through the streets, firing one explosive arrow after another at the oncoming robots and barely dodging the laser blasts they shot in return. While he was doing that, Panther was scaling the side of a building behind them before leaping down towards a robot, throwing several energy daggers at the robots and using his claws to slice through one as he landed on the ground. The second he touched down, the robot split in two and collapsed.

"Thanks for the save," Hawkeye commended. "But next time, maybe give me a little warning before you sneak off and make me robot target practice."

"You're welcome," Panther replied before a noise caused the two to look down the street to see more robots crashing down.

"Oh come on!" Hawkeye let out as the two dove out of the way.

Back with Giant-Man, he was struggling to hold back the various robots trying to crush him when Spider-Man swung in.

"Hey, need a hand?"

"Shrink button… right hand… double tap!"

"Got it."

Spider-Man leapt onto Giant-Man's hand and quickly pressed the button as instructed, causing Ant-Man to shrink out of the robots' grip and making them collapse in on themselves just as Spider-Man grabbed Ant-Man and leapt out of the way.

"Thanks," Ant-Man replied.

"Don't mention it," Spider-Man replied as a ship flew by, severing his web and causing him to land on a rooftop. After setting Ant-Man down so he could summon a flying ant, Spider-Man shot a web at the passing ship and pulled him into the path of another ship, causing them to crash into each other and explode.

"Yes!" Spider-Man cheered before quickly dodging a robot's laser blast. "Whoa."

Hulk meanwhile was smashing everything in sight, roaring as loud as he could. Next to him, Hawkeye's quiver ran dry, much to his chagrin..he quickly found himself back to back with Cap as the robots began surrounding them.

"They're corralling us, Cap," Hawkeye informed.

"I know," Cap agreed. "We need to set a rally point and regroup with the others. How many more explosive arrows do you have?"

"None. I could try throwing rocks if you want?"

Just then, the Quinjet swooped in from the skies, shooting at the robots with no mercy.

"I'm always coming to save you boys," Widow's voice quipped over the comm link.

"Was wondering what was keeping you," Hawkeye remarked.

"You would not believe how crowded the skies are up here. By the way, you might wanna duck."

The two did so as Widow opened fire on the robots on the street, mowing them down easily. Hulk meanwhile was being overwhelmed by the barrage of robots piling on top of him. That's when Iron Man arrived, launching several missiles at the robots that blew them up upon impact, allowing the jade giant to break through. Ant-Man meanwhile was flying through the battle on one of his ants, barely avoiding the constant barrage of robots. One of the robots blasts sent Ant-Man flying off his ant and onto the ground. Seeing one of the robots legs about to come down, Ant-Man quickly rolled out of the way before growing back to normal size and running off. The robot turned to pursue, but a sudden energy blast tore off part of the robots torso, causing it to collapse to the ground. Curious, Ant-Man turned and saw Coulson standing on the ramp of the Bus as it hovered over the city.

"Thought you guys could use a hand!" He called out.

"Great timing!" Ant-Man called out.

Coulson then leapt out of the Bus with Quake and Mockingbird following close behind. Quake fired shockwaves at two of the robots, causing them to crack and crumble to pieces. Mockingbird ran towards one of the robots and extended her staff right into one of its chest plates, damaging it so it couldn't fire another laser. She quickly pulled it out as Coulson fired another shot, destroying it.

"That should buy us a few minutes," Coulson told them. "Everyone, on board!"

The Bus started lowering towards the streets, but quickly came under fire from the barrage of robots. One of the blasts managed to hit one of the engines, forcing it to crash towards the ground.

"May!" Quake let out.

"I got her!" Spider-Man volunteered, swinging towards the plane.

He quickly crawled and leapt his way through the plane until he reached the cockpit, where he saw May nursing a slight cut on her head.

"You good?" Spider-Man asked.

"Had worse," May replied.

"Yeah, let's not test that, shall we?" Spidey then pulled her out of her seat and began making his way out of the plane.

Just as the two came out, more robots began closing in on them.

"This just isn't our day," Spidey lamented.

All of the sudden, several of the robots were caught in a massive explosion that erupted behind one of them, taking them down in one fell swoop. Hawkeye perked slightly.

"I recognize that explosion,"

Out of the smoke, X-Gene came walking out, rotating her shoulder and adjusting a very familiar looking helmet on her head.

"Hey guys," she called, giving a small wave. "You looked like you needed some help."

"Nice timing, kid," Hawkeye commended. "Don't suppose you brought a few x-buddies with you?"

"As a matter of fact..."

At that moment, the Blackbird began flying overhead, prompting everyone to look up and see the X-Men piling out and landing next to them. As soon as he leapt out, Colossus turned to steel and plowed through one of the robots, completely wrecking it. Cyclops shot out laser blasts, cutting through a robot's torso and tearing it in half. Storm came flying down and shot out several lightning bolts at the robots, frying their circuitry and causing them to fall to the ground. Hulk smirked a bit before feeling a tinge of weakness. He turned and saw Rogue placing an ungloved finger on his back.

"Sorry big fella," she told him as her skin began to turn a similar shade of green. "Just need ta borrow a bit of power."

With that, she grabbed hold of one of the robot's legs and spun it around into several others, toppling them before tossing the robot she was holding into the air, where Iron Man blasted it with his unibeam.

"You always did look good in green, chere," Gambit commended, throwing several exploding cards at the fallen robots.

Rogue rolled her eyes in response. This however left her vulnerable when a robot's claw shot out towards her. Fortunately, the very familiar claws of Wolverine extended and sliced the claw right off.

"You two can flirt on your own time," Wolverine told them.

"Pardon us, Logan," Gambit apologized as Cap came up.

"Nice to see you again," Cap greeted.

"Yeah, the Avengers haven't been the same since you left," Spidey added, landing next to them. "Nobody calls me bub anymore."

"Nice to see you too, webhead," Wolverine replied as more robots came raining down, prompting him to ready his claws once more. "Mind telling me who the hell's behind this?"

"His name's Kang," Iron Man answered as he hovered next to him. "He thinks the Avengers screwed over the future and now he's out for blood."

"The future?" X-Gene repeated before letting out a long, annoyed groan. "Oh great. Don't tell me this is another time traveler!"

"Looks like," Wolverine replied.

"Another?" Iron Man asked.

Before he could receive an answer, Hill called in on his HUD.

"Stark, you there?"

"What is it, Hill? We're kinda busy with the army of robots invading the city."

"Well I hate to break it to you, but it's not just happening in New York. Tactical targets are being hit all along the eastern seaboard."

"Makes sense," Coulson replied, continuing to fire laser shots. "Hit major targets to destabilize the country."

"Then why attack New York?" Ant-Man asked. "There aren't any tactical targets in the city."

"The Avengers are a tactical target," Cap answered, slicing through a robot with his shield.

"And that's not all. I've received similar reports from Cairo, China, London, and more. Kang isn't just interested in New York."

"He's taking over the entire world…" Iron Man realized.

Across the world, Kang's forces were invading country after country. With ships flying over the Great Wall of China, robots scaling the pyramids of Egypt, and saucers situating themselves over Paris.

...

In Sokovia, people were running in terror as numerous robots descended from the sky. As the people kept running, a young girl tripped on a stray rock and fell to the ground. She looked up and saw one of the robots legs coming down on her. Before it made contact, a blue blur sped by and grabbed her, pulling her out of the way just in time. The girl was suddenly in the arms of her mother, the blur nowhere to be seen.

Elsewhere, debris was beginning to fall everywhere. However, every now and then, a red halo would surround some of the debris, allowing fleeing civilians to get away. Once the civilians were out of the way, the red halo sent the debris flying into one of the robots.

In an alleyway, Scarlet Witch leaned on the wall the beginnings of a nose bleed beginning to form. The blue blur, Quicksilver, quickly ran to her side and steadied her. She gave him a small nod and he scooped her up, both of them disappearing.

In the country of Latveria, several of Kang's forces began descending upon the European Nation. From the massive castle overlooking the country, massive turrets rose up from the towers and opened fire on the ships, shooting them out of the sky. Watching all this was the sovereign ruler of Latveria himself, Doctor Doom. He did little more than scowl at the situation, seeing it as little more than a petty annoyance.

In London, the skies and streets of the city were being safeguarded by the world's first superhero family, the Fantastic Four. On the ground, Mr. Fantastic stretched his body around the legs of one of the robots, causing it to trip and fall to the ground. At the same time, the Thing leapt up to one of the robots and began smashing it.

"What a revoltin development this is," Thing commented. "We finally get a chance to go on vacation, and look what happens? Robots invading London."

Just above them, the Human Torch was streaking through the skies, tossing fireballs at the robots.

"Hey, cool off, Ben," Johnny insisted. "Weren't you complaining about how bored you were?"

"Yeah, but I was just hoping to find something good on TV. Not star in the SyFy movie of the week."

Just then, two robots were encased in force fields that were slowly shrinking around them, effectively crushing them. Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman, shimmered into view as she dissipated the fields.

"How about saving the fighting for the robots?" she suggested

"Fine," Thing replied. "The sooner we clean these bots clocks, the sooner this Ben gets to see Big Ben."

In Wakanda, reports of approaching ships prompted several soldiers to board ships of their own and meet the threat head on. The two groups of ships clashed midair, destroying each other as the Wakandans, including Shuri and the Dora Milaje, watched from below.

Back in Avengers Mansion, Tony, Cap, Hank, T'Challa, Alexis, Logan, and Coulson regrouped and called Hill so they could figure out a plan. Jane met them in the Assembly Hall as everyone looked grim.

"I'm not gonna lie to you," Hill spoke. "The situation is bad. Kang's attacked every major city on the planet, with several already fallen to him, and even more surrendering."

"This is…" Ant-Man let out. "This is madness. How are we supposed to fight this?"

"Logan," Cap spoke up. "You said the X-Men have dealt with time travel before, right?"

"Once, but not at this scale," Wolverine explained.

"A mutant from the future showed up at the X-Mansion, looking to kill Gambit," X-Gene explained. "He believed Gambit had been responsible for causing the world to plummet into utter chaos by assassinating President Kelly."

"Were you able to get a look at the tech he was using?" Tony asked.

X-Gene nodded.

"Rogue said that he had an anchor tying him to our timeline. It was in the form of a bracelet, one that she destroyed. The second she did, time righted itself and yanked him back to his future."

"Considering how many robots we've taken down, there must be a central anchor for all of them," Coulson deduced.

"What about those flying disks I saw out there?" Cap suggested. "Think that might be it?"

"That could be possible," Ant-Man allowed. "Considering the level of Kang's tech, he may only need one anchor for each fleet."

"The only problem is getting there. Conventional weapons aren't having any effect. We were hoping Stark might have some ideas."

"There was a back door that I was able to exploit when we first met him, but he's sealed it off since then. I'm still analyzing the data I got."

While Tony was talking, Cap noticed T'Challa looking at a monitor displaying Wakanda. He had his helmet off as he just stared at the screen, his face a torrent of emotions.

"You should go," Cap told him.

T'Challa tried to steel himself.

"You will need all the help you can get."

"Maybe… but your people need their king. Take one of the Quinjets. We'll join you as soon as we can."

T'Challa turned to him, then gave a small nod as he slid his helmet back on. Without another word, he headed off to help his people.

"We need to do something soon," Hill insisted. "Our forces are barely holding out there."

"We need to find Kang," Tony decided. "Take the fight to him."

"Tony's right," Cap agreed. "We take out Kang, we end all of this."

"Time Travel isn't too different from jumping realms," Jane spoke up. "With a little tweaking to my Rosenbridge formula, I might be able to figure out a way to track Kang. With Tony's backdoor, it'll be even easier."

"You two get on that," Cap told them, grabbing his shield and placing it on his back. "In the meantime, the Avengers need to get back out there. We'll buy you as much time as we can."

"Thanks," Tony replied. "I get the feeling we'll need it."

"Come on," Jane told him, already heading out. "We've got work to do."

Up in the skies, Wasp had joined Widow in the Quinjet and was manning the turrets to blast several ships out of the sky.

"Looks like I found bigger stingers," Wasp remarked.

She fired down on the robots as Widow nodded.

"Keep it up, Wasp, I'm going to deliver some care packages."

Grabbing two quivers, Widow jumped out of the Quinjet. She rolled on the ground near Hawkeye as she tossed the quivers to him. He quickly grabbed them and slung them on his back before opening fire on the robots.

"Thanks for the pick me up!" he replied.

"You have got to carry more ammo on you," she insisted, drawing her guns and firing at one of the bots.

"Like how? It's not like these things are easy to carry around."

"Ever considered a smaller weapon then?"

"Not a chance. Besides, guns are more your thing."

"Suit yourself."

"Guys," Wasp called over comms. "We've got a group heading towards the bridge."

"I'm on my way!" Spider-Man called.

On the Brooklyn Bridge, several robots were touching down on the road, sending several cars flying into the air. Fortunately, Spider-Man arrived just in time to shoot out several web lines and catch the cars before they fell into the river below. After snagging the last car and attaching it to the bridge, Spider-Man turned towards the massive army of robots stomping across.

"And for this, I left Gwen Stacy," Spidey lamented. "Oh well."

"Somebody help!"

Spider-Man immediately froze up before turning to see a man looking over the bridge.

"Help me, my kid is trapped!"

Spidey scrambled over to him.

"Where's your kid?"

"Down there!" the man gestured to one of the cars hanging below.

"Don't worry, I'll get him."

Spidey then leapt down to the car and tore off the back window, where he could see a little boy sitting in the back seat. The boy was crying, clinging to his seat while looking down at the water in terror.

"Easy kid," Spidey tried to reassure. "It's gonna be alright."

The kid turned, screaming when he saw Spider-Man.

"Get away! Get away!"

"Hey, it's ok. It's ok."

Seeing no other way to calm the kid down, Spider-Man quickly pulled off his mask, showing him his face.

"See? Just a normal guy."

This seemed to calm the kid down, though he was still clearly terrified. Peter held out the mask for him.

"Here. You wanna hold onto this for me?" He tossed the kid the mask, who caught it and clutched it like a security blanket. "What's your name?"

"J-Jack..." the boy blubbered.

"Alright then, Jack. I'm gonna get you out of here, okay?"

Jack nodded as Peter slowly crawled inside.

"Alright, I'm gonna get the seatbelt now, ok?" Peter told him, wrapping an arm around him protectively. "When I do, twist yourself so you land on your back on that seat in front of you, okay?"

Jack nodded again. Peter grasped the seatbelt, counting down from three before snapping the belt. Jack fell onto the seat, successfully landing on his back. The car shook slightly when he did, and Peter could see liquid beginning to trickle down the side window. It didn't take a genius to realize it was gasoline. Still, he kept up a brave face as he tended to the kid.

"You're doing great, Jack," Peter told him.

As he said this, a spark from one of the broken headlights started a fire across the car. It quickly spread, snapping the spider line. Peter quickly shot out a new web, tethering himself to the bridge while he grabbed the car by the now empty windshield. Jack screamed as he was jostled violently, falling all the way into the front of the car and landing on the windshield.

"Jack!" Peter called out. "You gotta climb!"

"I can't!" Jack called back.

"Yes, you can!" He was straining to grip onto the car, which was growing hotter by the minute. "My mask! Put on my mask! It'll help, okay? It'll make you strong!"

Jack looked at the mask in his hand, then slowly pulled it over his own head. He then started climbing up the car towards Peter, who was feeling the metal of the car start to bend.

"You're doing great, Jack. You're doing great. Just… maybe a little faster, ok buddy?"

Jack almost reached him when the car finally broke from his grasp. Peter screamed, firing a web right at Jack's chest. Jack quickly grabbed it as the car dropped into the water. Peter let out a breath of relief as he started pulling Jack up. Reclaiming his mask before going topside, the two made it back onto the bridge. Jack's dad took his son in his arms, hugging him in relief.

"Jack!" his dad let out. "Oh thank god you're safe."

Spider-Man couldn't help but smile at the sight, before looking off and seeing the marching robots, gaining his attention once more as he swung off.

...

At that time, Hulk landed on top of the bridge, with Hawkeye, Widow, and Wolverine being carried by him before dropping off of the jade giant.

"Now this looks like fun," Wolverine remarked, extending his claws. "Ready, Jade Jaws?"

"I'm always ready," Hulk replied before leaping down towards the bots.

Wolverine followed after as Widow and Hawkeye both slid down the bridge cables, letting off a few shots along the way. Widow quickly leapt off and placed a bomb on one top of one of the robots before leaping to the ground and letting it blow. Wolverine sliced through the legs of several bots, causing them to topple over so he could stab them repeatedly in the chest plates. Hawkeye fired an arrow right through one of the robots, causing it to explode from the inside out, while Hulk was just wailing on the robots mercilessly.

"Goldilocks thought he'd smash more robots than me?!" Hulk let out. "Stupid hammer man!"

As he was pounding away, one of the robots came up from behind, prompting Hawkeye to fire an explosive arrow at it, blowing it up.

"How about we stay focused, ok big guy?" Hawkeye told him. "We have to hold out until the bridge evacuates. Besides I've taken down more of these things than you and Thor combined."

Suddenly, three more robots fell to the ground, all sliced to pieces as Wolverine walked towards them.

"We even competing at this point?" Wolverine asked.

Widow just rolled her eyes at the matter.

"Guys," She remarked before looking down the street and seeing more robots approaching. "Guys…"

The other three turned and saw the robots approaching. As they came to a stop though, one of the robots leapt on top of another, a hope opening on the top so its legs could fit in. this process repeated with the others until it was a massive multi armed robot with a head that possessed a laser turret for a mouth.

"First one to take it down wins," Hulk declared.

"You're on," Wolverine agreed.

He immediately charged at the massive robot, only for one of its claws to swat him away. Hulk tried leaping up to it, but it fired a laser, knocking him to the ground. Widow and Hawkeye took cover as more claws shot out towards them.

"Random thought, but…" Hawkeye called out. "Remember Budapest?!"

"Of course!" Widow replied. "Why?!"

"I'd much rather be there than here, right now!"

The two quickly leapt out of the way as the massive robot fired another laser shot. Wolverine meanwhile, made his way over to Hulk as he picked himself up.

"You good big guy?" Wolverine asked.

"Yeah…" Hulk confirmed.

"How's your throwing arm?"

"Why?"

Wolverine just turned to him, smirking.

"Up for a fastball special?"

Hulk returned the smirk in kind.

"Oh yeah."

Wolverine leapt up into Hulk's hand, prompting Hulk to spin around before tossing Wolverine right at the robot. Wolverine had his claws extended so he tore right through the robots head, blowing it up as he flipped onto the ground. Just as he landed, lightning started to crackle, prompting him to look up and see Storm and Thor above them, lightning striking across the skies.

"May the elements rain down upon you!" Storm shouted.

"For Midgard!" Thor yelled as the two sent lightning down right on top of the robot, causing it to surge with power before exploding.

The blast sent a small shockwave through the air as the two lightning wielders descended.

"Nice timing," Wolverine commended.

"I believe the say is 'you set them up, we knock them down'?" Thor guessed.

"Essentially," Storm confirmed.

Hawkeye meanwhile, shook himself as he found himself lying on top of Widow, who was waking up herself.

"Now this looks familiar," Clint remarked.

"Wow… you and I do remember Budapest differently," Widow remarked as she shoved him off and got back on her feet.

Clint just got up himself as Jean Grey arrived, using her telekinesis to lift the cars off the webs and back onto the roads. Spider-Man gave her a thumbs up as he met up with the others.

"Well, that looks like one mess dealt with," Spidey noted.

"Yeah only a couple million more left," Hawkeye remarked.

"Hey Tony," Spider-Man called over the ID card. "We're kinda getting swamped on the Kang front. Any luck?"

"If I found anything kid, I would've called," Tony replied, sliding his helmet off. "I'm connected to every satellite in the world right now, and I can't find him anywhere!"

Tony just threw his helmet at the wall, much to Jane's shock.

"All this technology is useless!"

Spider-Man just slowly put the card away.

"Uh… he's still working on it."

"Fan-freakin-tastic," Wolverine remarked. "At this rate, Kang'll probably conquer the planet three times over before we find him."

Cap just looked up at one of the saucers hovering above the city, his eyes narrowing at it.

"Those disks are the key to all of this," He spoke. "We just need a way in."

"But you heard Hill," Widow responded. "They've tried every conventional tactic they can think of."

"So we'll use an unconventional one," Cap replied. "In fact… I just might have an idea about that."

Later, Wasp was in the cockpit of the Quinjet once more, with Ant-Man sitting next to her as they flew towards one of the saucers.

"This is so cool," Wasp let out in excitement. "I'm actually flying a jet!"

"I'm glad you're enjoying the situation, at least," Ant-Man replied. "Cap, we're enroute to the saucer."

"Roger that, Hank," Cap replied. "We'll hold the line as best we can. Good luck."

"Don't worry Cap," Wasp reassured. "We got this."

The Quinjet continued towards the massive saucer, only for a laser to shoot out from it, hitting the Quinjet and effectively destroying it. Fortunately, the two pint sized heroes managed to shrink down at the last second, allowing Wasp to carry Ant-Man the rest of the way.

"Everything's going according to plan," Wasp relayed.

"You do know those Quinjets cost Tony about twenty million dollars a piece, right?" Ant-Man asked.

"Wasn't my plan," Wasp replied as they flew inside one of the slots the robots ejected out of.

They proceeded down the corridor until one of the robots got set to launch, prompting them to panic.

"Not good," Wasp let out.

"Go up. Up!" Ant-Man instructed.

Wasp did so, flying through one of the grates just as the robot passed by.

At the bridge of the ship, a technician was maintaining the essential systems when Was flew up next to him.

"Hi," She greeted before zapping him.

He fell unconscious as Ant-Man grew full size.

"The technology is definitely similar to elements of Kang's time chair," He analyzed. "Now if Logan and Alexis are right, this ship should have some kind of temporal stasis device anchoring it in this era. All we have to do is destroy it, and the ship theoretically should return to its own time."

Wasp nodded, then aimed her stingers at the console.

"I'm just gonna smash everything."

She then fired at the console, causing it to explode. The second it did, the ships being deployed instantly disappeared, and soon the saucer along with it. This however caused Ant-Man to begin falling towards the city, prompting him to quickly shrink down so Wasp could catch him.

Back down below, the Avengers, X-Men, and S.H.I.E.L.D. team were fighting off the invading robots as best they could, with Hawkeye leaping off exploding cars to fire some arrows, Nightcrawler porting around the robots so they would blast each other, Falcon swerving around the laser blasts and slicing their arms off with his wing, and Cap throwing his shield at one robot, splitting it in two.

"Cap, the plan worked," Ant-Man reported. "Tell the others to proceed!"

"Roger that," Cap replied before turning to the others. "You heard the man, Avengers. Let's go to work!"

Thor nodded as he instantly took off upwards, plowing right through one of the saucers and causing it to vanish.

Falcon flew Quake towards one of the other saucers, easily avoiding the blast as she shot out a shockwave to create a hole in the side. He quickly tossed her in so she could blast the console, destroying it and causing the ship to disappear. Falcon then easily swooped down and caught her before she fell, carrying her back to the ground.

Rogue, still possessing Hulk's strength, leapt up to one of the saucers with Gambit in tow. Once they got on top of it, she tore open the roof, allowing Gambit to throw an explosive card at the console. She quickly grabbed him and leapt off just as the card blew, destroying the console and causing the saucer to disappear. As they landed, her skin returned to her usual pigment as she stumbled a little.

"You alright, chere?" Gambit asked.

"Yeah. Guess without Hulk's strength, I ain't green no more."

"Then don't strain yourself," he told her, picking her up. "Gambit is at your service."

Rogue just rolled her eyes as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

X-Gene looked up at one of the saucers, trying to figure out how to get up there. She looked around before locking eyes on Hulk.

"Hey! Big guy!"

Hulk turned towards her as she walked over.

"I need you to hit me as hard as you can, then throw me at that saucer."

"Alright, but don't blame me if you blow your pants off this time."

"No need to worry about that. Just hit me."

Hulk obliged, hitting her and supercharging her with gamma energy. She skidded back slightly, energy already coursing through her.

"ThrowmenowbeforeIexplode!"

Hulk grabbed her and lugged her at the saucer, causing it to explode before vanishing. As X-Gene fell to the ground, Nightcrawler ported in and grabbed her, teleporting them both to the ground safely. He then took out her energy pistol and shot her with it, giving her a burst of energy.

"I'm awake!" she let out.

"And more than a little too daring," Nightcrawler commented.

"Worked didn't it?"

"Nice work, kid," Hawkeye commended. "And you even managed to stay dressed this time."

"Got Stark to thank for that."

"All in all, as far as invasions of New York go," Spidey began to comment. "I give this one a three out of five."

"This was only the battle," Cap reminded. "The war is still going on all over the world. And it will keep going until we find Kang and shut him down."

Back at the Mansion, Tony and Jane were still working to track down Kang, but were coming up empty.

"Nothing," Tony let out. "I've got all this technology, scans of everywhere on the planet, and I've got nothing."

"We have to keep looking," Jane insisted. "He's got to be here."

"Well, I can't find him!" He grabbed a screwdriver, chucking it across the room in annoyance. "We've been at this for hours and we're still no closer than when we started!"

"It's going to be ok, Tony. we just-"

"Then where on earth is he?!" He smashed the table in frustration before finally getting a hold of himself. "Sorry, I-"

"Hang on… Earth..." Jane backed up, thinking for a moment. "Tony, we've been searching Earth, not around it."

"Of course. JARVIS, give me all scans of space in the last 24 hours. Full spectrum analysis. Focus on geosynchronous orbit over North America."

JARVIS did so and soon found exactly what he was looking for.

"There it is..." Jane let out.

Tony grinned, grabbing his comm.

"This is Iron Man to the Avengers… we got him."
