You were right." Jane stated on their drive to her house so that Maura could get her car. Marcella was sleeping peacefully in her seat at the back and Jane kept occasionally glancing at the toddler in the review mirror.

"Uhhh, I like the sound of this." Maura giggled. "But what about exactly?" she asked while her hand was comfortably resting on Janes upper leg.

"That it's going to be fine. At least the part with my family is okay now." The brunette sighed.

"The rest will be fine too Jane." Maura stated with one of those smiles Jane loved so much.

"Oh yeah? Well I hope so." She slowly said and thought about moving in back with her mother and the rest of the stress which lay ahead of her. The lawyer had said that she had a good chance of winning a custody battle if there was going to be one. But he had also recommended to try and talk to Gabriel again in order to find a good solution for the kid.

"I have a guest house." The blonde stated as if reading Janes mind. "You can life there as long as you need, if you like. You wouldn't have to move back to your mother, and it will give you time to sort things out."

Jane glanced at her and their eyes locked for the fraction of a moment. "I mean I have to go back to San Francisco anyways sooner or later. You would have your peace." Would this be an option? Jane pondered it in her head.

"Where do you life anyways?" she asked not saying yes or no now.

"In beacon hill. It's a calm neighborhood. Its very child friendly." Maura stated and squeezed her thigh. Jane bit her lip. Not only because Beacon hill was a posh neighborhood but also because of the effect the squeezing had on her body.

She tried to ignore the pulsing between her legs and focus on the problem instead. She just couldn't imagine herself fitting in in Beacon hill. But the prospect of not having to move back into her childhood room was tempting.

"And it would only be temporarily?" the brunette asked gingerly.

"You can stay as long as you want. When my mother is in town, she usually prefers a hotel anyways. And I don't have many visitors. So, its empty all the time anyways." Maura shrugged and Jane noticed the unhappiness in the blondes' voice.

She thought about Maura mentioned earlier how a family dinner had always been her dream and it occurred to her that her relationship to her family bothered Maura more than she would like to admit. Maura seemed to hate talking about her problems in general and Jane felt sorry that her own problems took up so much time.

"Do you want to talk about it?" she gently asked, and her hand came to rest on Maura's which had moved further upwards to a very sensitive spot during their conversation. She wondered if it was just coincidence or if Maura intended to seduce her for yet another session of "stress relieve".

Honestly, the thought of sleeping with Maura was very tempting and Jane swallowed the lump which was forming in her throat.

"Not now. I'm Basically okay. I have it all sorted out." Jane doubted Maura's words but stayed silent. Awkwardness overcame them when she pulled into the driveway of her home.

"You don't have to decide yet. If you want, I can give you a tour whenever you have time. Maybe tomorrow when you come to dinner?"

Jane nodded reluctantly as they stepped out of the car. Then they stood facing each other over the metal box on four wheels, not really knowing what to do. Neither of them seemed to want the evening to be over. Both obviously wanted some physical touch. But they knew that if Maura came in, they would have an even harder time to say goodbye.

"Okay then. So, we'll see each other tomorrow at work?" Jane finally said while rounding the car with a few long strides.

"Yes. We'll see each other tomorrow." Maura smiled and Jane pulled her into a hug to say good night. Maura chuckled. "You're not a hugger huh?" Maura teased her which made the detective snort.

The tall woman watched the Prius move out of her driveway and waved until the blue car had disappeared around the corner. Then she turned to Marcella. Please don't wake up while I take you out of your seat. She mumbled and she bent down to unstrap the sleeping girl.

She was lucky. Marcella was so tired that she slept through the entire process of bringing her into the house and putting her into her bed. Once she was covered, Jane left the room with the baby monitor in one hand and walked back into the kitchen to grab a beer with the other.

Her fingers moved over the screen when she looked up Gabriel's number after sitting down onto the couch. It was time to make the call she had discussed with her lawyer. Gabriel picked up at the second ring and Jane listened carefully, anxious that he was drunk again. But he sounded sober which was good, seen as to the topic they had to discuss.

"Hey. How are you?" she tried to sound calm and friendly. But she immediately knew by his response that he wasn't in the best mood.

"I had to move out of my own house. How do you think I am?" he snapped. Yet another lie. Gabriel Dean was a good example for how people tended to have a selective perception or to turn facts around so they made them the victim.

"You moved out of the house yourself and threw it onto the market. Thanks, by the way for letting me know that I have to move out within the next two weeks." She angrily snapped back because she had had enough of this ongoing theater and him playing the martyr.

"It's your own fault. You shouldn't have betrayed me." He stated cold. This was the point where Jane knew that there was no possibility that this talk would go fine.

"I told you that I was gay. Right from the start! You coaxed me into marrying you. At least you knew that there was a chance that this would happen." Jane replied calmly now.

"Great! Just say it's all my fault if it makes you feel better. But I swear to you that you will pay for it!" he yelled. Her being calm enraged him obviously she thought. "I saw a lawyer today, Gabriel. He suggested that we settle this peacefully. For our but also for Marcellas sake."

It was as if this made Gabriel realize that Jane was really serious about pulling through with the divorce and that this wasn't just Jane making a scene. Like her mother had said: he could be such a kid sometime. "So, you're serious?" he asked in astonishment.

Jane sighed. "Yes, I'm serious. This marriage is not working, Gabriel. And we both know it. I mean look at us. We came up with a time schedule where we hardly saw each other. It's the most telling thing I guess."

To her surprise Gabriel agreed. "We were such a beautiful couple though." He whispered sadly. Jane bit back her comment that this was just to the outside and sighed. "So, do you think that we can find a good solution for both of us?" she tried to sound soft. But she had a hard time being nice after all the things he had made her go through.

"What's your proposal?" He asked.

"We sell the house and share the money. It's only fair as we bought it together. We have separate accounts anyways so that should be clear. I don't want any money from you."

He took a deep breath before agreeing: "Sounds fair so far. What about Marcella?"

"Shared custody?" Jane proposed silently as she didn't want to deprive him from the chance to see his daughter grow up.

"I honestly don't have much time for her as I'm just building up a new life. I will have to travel a lot." He stated and added that he didn't know how to manage the back and forth for Marcella between Boston and Washington anyways.

Jane silently pumped her fists. Now the man suddenly didn't want to see or be responsible for his daughter!? Besides, it didn't seem to matter that she too had to build up a new life. Not that she was unhappy about his decision because she was happy with having Marcella. But she felt sorry for the girl who may grow up without her father being somewhere in her life.

"Okay. No problem. I will take care of her. Do you want to have a say? I mean she will have to go to school one day…."

"No, I'm fine with you taking custody of her and making all the decisions. I'm not going to pay for her though."

"Not that I expected you to." Jane said angrily but as usually Gabriel shrugged it off. How come she hadn't noticed before what a selfish person this man was? The only thing that had counted to him were other people opinions. It occurred to her that he hadn't even once asked how Marcella was.

"Can you get the papers ready and sent them to me?" he asked, now sounding as if he couldn't wait for this to be over.

"Sure. I'll text you when they are on their way." She said and hung up.

R&I

The next morning, Jane saw Maura waiting for the elevator upon walking into the precinct. She took her time to take in the petites appearance which was elegant and hot as usually. Unlike Jane who wore one of her usual suits. Only that hers bore slight crinkles because she didn't have the time to take the other ones to the cleaner. So, she had to go for the last clean one which was hanging in her wardrobe.

She held onto the two cups of coffee in her hand while closing the distance between them. "Good morning." She greeted her friend with a smile.

"Good morning detective." Maura reflected her smile.

"Are you going up or down?" Jane asked.

"Down. I should get the last results for the tests I ran yesterday."

The brunette cringed. Every sentence which contained a last sounded a lot like goodbye and she hated it. Maura would eventually have to return to San Francisco. And it looked a lot like that this would happen soon because she couldn't help them in Boston any longer.

She handed one of the coffees to the blonde and joined her in the elevator while listening to her explanations about various forms of poisons and what made the poison used in their case so special. If it were for Jane, Maura could google mouth her all day. Maura's voice had a soothing effect on her and somehow gave her a feeling of being save.

Once in the lab, Jane glanced around curiously. She had never been there before and was surprised by the amount of devices int the room. Maura walked straight to a microscope and turned it on.

"How's Marcella?" the blonde asked while placing some examples onto the desk.

"She slept through the night which is good." Jane chuckled and told Maura how the girl had managed to cover her entire upper body with her breakfast. "I had to change my shirt almost a second time when Marcella reached for my coffee to play with it like she had with the food."

"You are a good mother." The doc gave her a genuine smile. "Marcella is very lucky to have you."

"I hope so." The brunette who was sitting on the edge of the desk muttered. She took the last sip from her Styrofoam cup and made a move which indicated that she was leaving.

Maura who had been placing one of the examples under a microscope glanced up. "Do you want to see something interesting?" she asked. "Interesting how?" Jane was curious and bent down to look through the two tiny holes.

"Hell, what's that? And why is it staring at me through a microscope?" Jane shrieked and jumped at the unexpected sight. Maura laughed and grabbed her hand as if scared that her friend would run.

"It's a spider. I found her in my house yesterday and was interested in finding out what sort of spider she is." Maura was still chuckling. "She was already dead when I found her, otherwise I would never have touched her." She added after seeing Janes puzzled look. The brunette doubtlessly remembered chasing a spider in Nairobi for the doc. "I'm only afraid of the living ones." Maura felt the need to elaborate further.

"And I thought that you wanted to play a prank on me." Jane sighed. "Oh, I didn't really plan it. But it was fun." The blonde gave her a teasing smile.

"Yeah, yeah. I see." Jane tried to sound mad, but she wasn't and she knew that Maura registered that it was just for fun. The brunette pinched the doc playfully and then left. She was already late but somehow, she didn't care. She turned in the threshold to take another look at the doc who was long lost in the view under her microscope hoping that Maura would have to stay a few more days.

Jane called her lawyer to make her next appointment when she finally arrived at her desk, catching the meaningful glances between Korsak and Frost. "What?" she asked rather annoyed. She didn't saw the need to hide what was going on as they weren't only colleagues but also friends.

Both just shook their heads. "I'm glad that you finally found your uhm your…" Jane watched the older man look for words. "Sexuality." Frost completed Korsaks sentence with a grin. "What Korsak tries to say is that we are happy for you and that we like Dr. Isles."

"Uhm, that's nice. Thank you both. But Dr. Isles and I are not… ah you know what? forget it." She laughed.
