It was around 8 pm when Maura and Jane opened the door to Maura's house. "Hell, what a day!" the brunette muttered as she followed the doc through the threshold. Each dropped their shoes to the tiled floor, and they continued into the living room.
"Never felt so tired after working with so little result. Whoever is behind the murders must be a cyborg or anything. I can't believe it. 10 murders and we have nothing. I hate that!" she stated. "Never in my entire career did one of my cases go unsolved to the cold case unit. Never!" she rambled on and only stopped rambling when she needed to catch a quick breath.
When she realized that Maura was standing in front of her with a somewhat unreadable grin she huffed dramatically. The doc laughed softly and grabbed Janes hand to pull her into a hug. "You are sweet when you get all annoyed, you know that?"
"Well, I've been called many things. But sweet was never among them. Especially not when enraged." Jane grinned cheekily at the doc, her mood lightning up with the banter between them.
"I told you that I would keep complimenting you if we stayed in contact." Maura stated and grinned.
"True." Jane gave her a flirtatious glance while putting the paper bag with their take-out onto the coffee table.
"Despite you giving me the bad habit of eating in front of TV." Maura smirked playfully and Jane laughed.
"I'm bad influence huh?"
"Not necessarily. I must say that my life is much more fun since meeting you." Maura said and slumped into the couch.
"I'm glad to hear that because mine is also much more fun since you came into my life." Jane replied and unpacked the boxes from a Chinese restaurant. "Plates?" she asked but the doc shrugged. "Too exhausted. I wonder if this feeling will ever stop."
Jane looked at her. "I wonder if this chaos will ever stop. I wish that we would have some nice time together to enjoy each other. At least the thing with Gabriel seems to be out of the way."
Maura grabbed the chop sticks Jane was holding out to her and opened a box. "Me too. But I guess that's how things are supposed to be right now." She shrugged.
"Do you believe in god?" the brunette asked when recalling Maura's plead this night. The question earned her a puzzled look.
"No. I'm a scientist and scientists only believe in things they can touch. Do you?" Maura replied with a question.
"Dunno. There was a time… I grew up catholic. Old Italian family and so… but I'm not sure if there is a god. Maybe it's more like an energy I believe in. An energy which roams in all of us and connects us in a certain way if that makes sense to you." She said with a pensive look.
The doc glanced at her with a risen eyebrow. "Sounds much more reasonable than believing in a white bearded old man who is sitting on a cloud in heaven." She stated and Jane giggled at the picture that popped up in her mind.
"Who says that it's not an old lady?" she asked with a grin.
"The catholic church would never accept that image. Although for all we know it could also be a woman. You aren't a hardcore feminist, are you?" Maura looked curious.
"Me?" Jane shrieked. "No. Although I believe that it's time to loosen up some of the prevailing prejudices like that women can't be cops or that women are made to serve men." The brunette scrunched up her nose. Maura who gave an appreciative sound nodded. "Absolutely!" she mumbled.
Jane rolled her eyes and took another bite from her bami goreng. She sat on one side of the couch with her legs crossed under her body. Maura was sitting on the other side in a similar position. They were facing each other.
"I also think that its time, that men stop taking credit for the work women do. If I look at you for example. You are practically the one who organizes and does everything, while your boss sits on his ass and claims all the credit for your work. But once you are not there for three weeks, the entire office breaks down. Instead of thinking that it's because you are keeping it on track, they give you the fault, because you are not there." Jane said, making an annoyed gesture with her chop sticks.
Maura gave her a suspicious glance. "How do you know about it?" she asked.
"There is a lot of talk…." Jane said vaguely, preferring not to go into the details about what exactly she had heard. "Makes me wanna punch them into their faces." She mumbled instead. "I swear, if I stay long enough you will see that happen."
Maura, who by now had dropped her chop sticks into the box which she was holding firmly, furrowed her eyebrows.
"Please don't do that. I mean, I know that you want to defend me, and I think its noble, but I don't want you to get into any trouble. They are just not worth it." The blonde gave her a meaningful look.
"You, Maur, you are worth it!" Jane said enraged. "These people have no right to do that to you!"
"Jane…" the docs voice was gentle now. "I've been teased all my life. I'm used to it. I learned long ago to ignore them because they are stupid. So, if its fine for me, it should also be fine for you."
The brunette hitched a breath and thought about the words. Then she shook her head. "No, you ignore it because you feel helpless. But you aren't. They shouldn't…"
"Don't you think that I thought about it?! Don't you think that I ever wished that it was different? I tried Jane! But it only made their behavior worse. I focus on the good people I have in my life. That's how to survive." Maura said agitated.
"It's not about surviving. It's about pain. Just because they feel miserable about themselves, they behave like jerks about you. That is not okay."
"You know what would help me?" Maura fiercely asked and made Jane listen up. "What?" she asked breathlessly.
"If you hugged me or do the little things you do to make me feel better. Its enough help. And its much more helpful to me than if you punch them into the face."
Jane growled. "Heck! I'm sorry, Maur. I just didn't …" she scooted over to the doc after putting her food onto the coffee table to wrap her arms around her. She began to cover the petits face with tender kisses until Maura turned her head to catch Janes mouth with hers. Both moaned and their bodies caught fire.
"Would it help if we finished what we started this night?" Jane asked cheekily once they broke up the kiss to catch some air and Maura laughed. "I guess it might."
Jane gently pushed the doc back into the cushion and made her stretch out her legs. "Oh yeah? I guess we have to find out then." Her body came to rest half on top of Maura's, one of her legs found its way between the docs. The back of her hand came up to caress the blonde's cheeks while she searched for hazel eyes.
Once they turned to lock with hers, they were open, curious and soft. Just like the small smile which was playing around her mouth. "Would you go out with me, Jane?" Maura asked while putting a strand of lost dark curls behind the brunettes ears.
Jane bit her lips with a happy grin. "Yes. I'd love to. But are you sure?"
"It's good that you are laying on top of me, otherwise I would run…." Maura joked and became instantly serious. "I'm sure, Jane." Maura cupped Janes face gently before saying something that made Janes heart swell. "I feel safe with you. I don't want to run from this anymore. I've already been running from you too long."
Jane who lacked words, bent down to kiss the tip of Maura's nose. "I feel save with you too, Maur." She confided to the doc.
Maura bit her lips. "So, how about we wait until I moved to Boston and then I take you to dinner?"
The brunette growled playfully. "Do I really have to wait that long?"
Maura laughed and pinched her into the side of her arm. "3 weeks, Jane." She scolded in the same playful manner that Jane had used before.
"Does that mean that we also have to wait with cuddles and so for three weeks?"
"And so? Do you mean sexual intercourse?" Maura teased her and cocked her head to glance at jane who rolled her eyes. "No one says sexual intercourse." Jane complained which made Maura grin. "Yes, I do." Her fingers were now tracing along Janes jawline and the brunette closed her eyes after swallowing hard.
Her mouth came to catch another kiss from Maura as their hands began roaming over their bodies. Jane felt the docs talented hands come under her shirt to caress her back. When fingernails gently traced down her spine, she felt even hotter. The doc definitely knew how to turn her on.
Her own hand began to unbutton Maura's blouse and push the fabric aside while their kisses turned more passionate. Then she began to kiss the delicate neck with a humming sound.
"Take me to bed." The doc whispered once they were all heated up by their touches and doings. And Jane who was more than ready to leave the otherwise very comfortable couch because it was to small to move properly agreed with a groan.
She helped Maura stand up and took her by the hand. In the bedroom they undressed each other slowly. Their doing being interrupted several times by passionate kisses.
"Hi" Maura said when they settled into the bed.
"Hey." Jane smiled, her hand pulling through the strands of blonde hair.
Maura rolled on top of her and straddled her like she had done the first time they had had sex in Nairobi. Jane was surprised of how much she liked the doc being on top. Usually, she wanted to be on the top. But feeling Maura's weight applying pressure to her center was more than nice.
With Maura she didn't feel the need to be in control which was wonderful. She relaxed into the silky covers after being ordered to do so and let Maura take care of her needs, before she made love to the blonde.
Afterwards they were cuddling together, being totally exhausted but most of all happy as hell.
"Hope dispatch wont disturb tonights sleep again." Jane groaned playfully, feeling Maura shifting in her arms. The doc wrapped her arm around Janes slim waist and sighed deeply. Jane could feel that she was almost asleep and wished her a good night, thinking that she could get used to falling asleep like this every night. Maybe….
