Unlike in San Francisco where the sun seemed to be always shining, Boston was foggy and rainy when Jane met her mother at the airport. Angela drove Jane home with a happy Marcella babbling away in her seat in the rear of the car.

The Rizzoli women exchanged news, but the brunette didn't tell her mother about the fantastic date she and Maura had had the previous evening. A date which had her grinning like a fool since then. The first thing she had done after getting of the plane, was to text Maura about her save arrival.

In order not to raise any suspicions in the matriarch she resisted a strong urge to reach for the phone in her pocket to see what the doc had written. To her dismay, Angela hovered around her home for a while. Explaining all sorts of things which had happened during the week she had been away.

And Jane knew that the whole conversation would end with Angela asking her loads of questions. How is Maura would be among the most harmless ones. But she wanted to keep the beginning relationship to herself for the moment. So, she already thought about deflections while listening half hearted to the rambling.

Angela of course kept teasing her with the non-girlfriend term and kept asking about a wedding and grandchildren.

To her surprise she passed the interrogation part pretty good and waved her mother goodbye after almost an hour. Then she glanced at Marcella with a deep sigh. "Hello baby." She greeted the toddler for the third time, scooping her up with her strong arms.

"I missed you." She left a load of kisses on the giggling toddles red face. "Mi-s you." Marcella repeated which made Jane kiss her cheeks once more. "So, what are we going to do? Maybe dinner hmmm. Are you hungry?"

Marcella nodded. "hungry" she repeated and let Jane take her to her chair at the table. Angela had packed some of the girl's favorite dishes – all homemade by herself. She took one of them out of the bag and heated it quickly in the microwave.

"Only two more weeks and Mommy will be back to see you." Jane felt strange calling Maura mommy. It had been one thing when they had been together in San Francisco as two adults who had the freedom to date. But things were different in Boston. She couldn't say that she preferred one situation more than the other.

It just felt strange to move from the free single woman back into the role of the mother of a one-year-old within hours. She thought about Maura's words about their relationship being chaotic and smiled. She already missed the woman a lot. Hopefully she would have more friends now that Jane had brought her into the bull pen several times. Hopefully the two last weeks of their physical separation would pass quickly too. And without Maura panicking and running away.

Jane sighed when she cleaned the dishes after putting Marcella to bed and reading her a good night story. She quickly wiped her wet hands into one of the dish towels to reach for the phone when it rang.

She felt almost deceived when she heard Frosts voice instead of Maura's which she had expected at this hour.

Her partner informed Jane, that Interpol had dug up some similar cases to theirs in Europe. His voice was trembling in excitement when he read a list of 14 couples. Janes hand suddenly held the phone so tight that the knuckles turned white.

"This is huge." She mumbled in astonishment. Now she wanted to know more than ever what was going on. Who was behind of all of this? And what was the motive. After discussing it for a while with her friend, she finally got the incoming call she had wished for.

"Okay. We should discuss it further at the bull pen tomorrow. I'm uhm .. I have to…"

Frost began to laugh, and he told Jane that he understood before hanging up.

"Hey. Don't tell me that you already miss my stinky feet on your coffee table." Jane joked and heard Maura laugh. "Maybe a bit." The blonde said, her smirk obvious in her tone.

"How was your flight? How are you? How's Marcella?" the blonde asked all question in a row without giving Jane time to reply. Jane took a deep breath. "The flight was good, I'm fine, Marcella was happy to see me again. I fed her and put her to bed."

"Sounds great!" Maura replied. "And Jane?"

"Yes, Maur?"

"You don't have stinky feet." Maura's words made Jane smile.

"Thank you." She replied, not knowing what else to say. She missed looking into these wonderful hazel eyes while talking to her. She already missed having the doc physically around her and their touches.

R&I

Another flight, Jane thought. Never had she flown so much in her life, like she had over the last two months. The plane made its slow descend in the darkness of the night. Underneath them was a sea of lights, and somewhere among them was Maura waiting for her.

The last two weeks had passed quickly with a new case and the old one. Jane rolled her eyes when thinking about how slow European law enforcement had warmed up to the idea of sharing information about their victims with her team. The language was also a barrier.

When she had told Maura about a chat with an Austrian police officer a few nights ago, the doc had laughed gently. "I know how to speak German. But don't they have a very strong accent?"

That had been exactly the point. Not only was the police officers English very poor but also colored by the weirdest accent. Maura had a way though to lighten Jane up. Making her see the funny side of things and maybe also helped her to see not everything just dark or like a pessimist. Maura was just what she needed, bringing the best out of her, making her feel safe, like she had never before.

Janes heart jumped at the thought that she would finally get to hold the doc in a short time. Both had a few days off to pack and hopefully enjoy time together. Some of the Austrian cases dated back two decades and showed together with their cases a wide span between the murders. It wouldn't harm if they didn't necessarily think about them for a few days, right?

Angela, who had brought her to the airport earlier had tortured her merciless about her relationship with Maura. But as usual, Jane refused to go into any details. A smile spread on her face when the plane touched down smoothly. That foolish smile that hadn't left her lips for weeks and which had caused so many teasing among colleagues and friends that didn't seem to matter.

A smile that became even wider when spotting the blonde after leaving the arrival terminal and walking into the fresh air.

"Hi." Maura greeted mirroring Janes smile.

"Hey yourself." Jane replied while dropping her duffle bag into the open trunk of Maura's car. They clumsily moved into a hug which tightened immediately. "Missed you." Jane whispered and heard Maura say that she had missed her too.

Despite of it all, they still had to get used to the idea of being a couple which also showed when they exchanged a shy kiss. Maura hadn't run, Jane noted, and the doc was obviously willing to pull through with their becoming a couple. The brunettes heart jumped at the realization and her pulse was racing. Only now she dared to believe that Maura was really coming to Boston.

"I'm here Jane." Maura whispered into her ear as they hugged again after the kiss. Sign that janes protective walls had long let the blonde in and that she had made herself readable for the doc. She sighed and pulled back slightly to place a gentle kiss onto Maura's cheek. Three words where suddenly trying to get out of her mouth. But she bit them back, thinking that it was far too early to say them out loud. Instead, she gave the blonde a smile and motioned towards the doors.

"Shall we?" she asked with a smile and Maura agreed. There was a lot of work ahead of them with packing and getting ready for the road trip they had planned. It had been Janes idea to rent a U-Haul to bring Maura's stuff to Boston. She was eager to spend a few days with Maura on the road and thought that it might be funny.

To her surprise the doc had been excited about her idea right from the start. "A road trip Jane?" she had exclaimed. "I love the idea!" And Jane who had been taken aback by not having to convince Maura of the benefits had cleared her throat. "Yes, uhm, but only if you really want to."

"Are you joking? Its great!"
