They hit the road the next morning after a good night's sleep and a delicious breakfast. Jane was in an excellent mood and so was Maura. The brunette turned the volume higher, when one of her favorite songs came up on the radio. She formed one of her hands into a fist to imitate a microphone and sang into it.

Maura giggled and pulled her hand closer to join her. At first Jane was surprised that the doc who usually didn't know other songs than her yaya music knew the lyrics so well. But then she realized that Maura had to have heard the song in her car probably more than thousand times and smiled.

The morning had been coolish which had made her wear a hoodie. But now that the sun was warming the earth, she felt hot and began tearing at her clothes. "Could u hold the steering wheel for a sec?" she asked Maura who looked first confused than anxious when realizing what Jane wanted to do.

"Jane. That's highly unreasonable. You should stop to take off the hoodie." She kind of scolded with a serious face.

"Says the woman who had no problem having sex with me driving yesterday." Jane chuckled. Maura blushed. "That was different." The doc decided, realizing that Jane was right.

"You uhm needed…" Maura suddenly stopped, and both laughed again. Jane stopped working on her hoodie and took Maura's hand into hers. "I love you." She smiled and saw her smile reflected in addition to warm hazel eyes.

They joked some more until Jane found a sign for a gas station. She pulled the van into the parking lot some 15 minutes later and finally got rid of her hoodie while Maura went to buy them some water and snacks. Unhealthy snacks she hoped but was sure that the doc would come out of the shop with some apples and bananas.

"Compromise." Maura stated when handing Jane indeed an apple but also her favorite chocolate. The doc winked flirtatiously. Jane who had planned far more time for the trip then needed decided to thank Maura later in her own special way.

She hopped back into the van with a wide grin and slid down her aviators before they continued driving down the endless seeming road.

R&I

Half an hour later they were standing by the side of the road with a flat tire. Jane shot it a mischievous glance while Maura was walking around, looking for a cell phone reception. "Come on Maur. There was a sign: last gas station in 150 miles. This is the middle of nowhere."

They glanced at each other. Silence.

"What are we going to do?" the doc asked Jane who shrugged. "Wait until another car comes by I guess."

"That can take hours if not days." Maura glanced around and Jane followed her eyes. "We could use the time to have a little bit of fun. Its beautiful here." Jane made a gesture.

"What sort of fun?" the doc asked with a mischievous grin.

"The sort we had at the beach yesterday. We just… Here let me help you…." The brunette held out her hand and helped Maura, who was wearing high heels as usual down a stony path. "Claudia Schiffer would be so proud of you." Jane teased her and Maura laughed.

"Do you think so?" she feigned to be serious and watched Janes jaw drop. When Jane realized that she had been taken Maura too seriously she blushed. "You are really good at this Maura. You need to stop."

"Why?" Maura asked giggling. "Its fun. You taught me!"

"I shouldn't have." Jane said with a smirk. But the corners of her mouth were tugging so Maura saw right through it.

Once they were at the bottom of the stony path, the looked around. The sun was standing high on the sky now and it was hot.

"What if the only car that passes today has passed while we were uhm…" Maura suddenly asked while they were laying arm in arm on the blanket under a tree. Jane pulled the woman in her arm a bit closer and kissed her forehead. "Maur, its fine if you say sexual intercourse. And I wouldn't exactly say that we should wait. There should be a spare tire somewhere in the car. I just have to figure out how to put it on."

"I can do that." The doc stated seriously, and Jane rose an eyebrow. "I guess I don't have to ask why you didn't mention it earlier though." Maura said and Jane glanced at Maura's lips which were slightly pursed in amusement.

"Would you have liked me to say it earlier?" she gently pinched the blonde who replied without even thinking about the answer. "No!"

"See, me either." Jane chuckled. "But you don't have to change the tire. I'm sure I can figure that out."

"Jane, its fine. I have experience in changing tires. Your rumbling stomach will be grateful if you let me work on it."

The brunette shuffled her feet. For one she was surprised that Maura knew how to change a flat tire. Her eyes automatically went to the high heels and the elegant dress. For two she felt kind of … yeah what?

"But I should be the man in this relationship." She protested when Maura grabbed the tools and the spare tire. The doc gave her a surprised look. "I mean, at least I think so." Jane shrugged then chuckled.

"Stupid prejudices!" she mumbled and kicked a stone with her boots. Dr. Maura Isles was difficult to characterize she decided. But wasn't she too? She watched the small fingers, which were able to work so diligently with a scalpel move the huge tools and tires. What she felt was awe for the petite.

"You keep surprising me over and over again." The brunette spoke her thoughts.

"So do you Jane. Who would have thought that you are such a great cook?"

Jane blushed at the compliment. "And I'm not even speaking about your skills with raising a child or the ones you have in bed." Janes already red face turned redder.

"You might be a bit bossy, but its okay." Jane who had been in some cloud snapped back to reality by these words.

"Excuse me? Did you just say that I'm bossy?" she exclaimed indignant.

"I said its okay. But yes. You are commanding Frost and Korsak around." Maura sated with a grin.

"You are bossy too! You're just more polite when commanding people."

"I'm not bossy." Maura acted indignant. Then her face faltered slightly. "Well, okay, maybe a bit." She finally admitted and turned back to the tire to finish up. Jane rolled her eyes. To her it was such a surreal picture, noticing that Maura's clothes were as meticulous and clean as if she was just gotten dressed.

This woman was from another planet for sure. Jane had to throw away her clothes after even only opening the hood of a car. How could the doc get out of changing a dirty tire with just dirty hands?

"Is there something wrong?" Maura asked when turning around to see Janes flabbergasted face. "Did I say something wrong?" the doc corrected herself.

"You're so clean." Jane pointed out and Maura chuckled. "I would hope so. This is one of my favorite blouses."
