Chapter 2 - Who to Kill
Hunger Games Headquarters
The executions that morning had been horrific. 3 of the 6 remaining careers had been executed for their roll in the crime perpetrated during that year's Hunger Games. The fate of the other 3 was still in the air along with the remaining tributes from 6 and 9.
11 tributes had remained when the trumpets echoed across the arena and they were informed they would be retrieved due to irregularities both in the games and outside of it. By the time they reached the Capitol there were only 10. 3 Peacekeepers were also dead and another 2 injured. Four tributes had been injured after the games ended and the doctor who had sedated one of them was also sporting a large gash on their arm.
It was likely the boy from 9 would also be executed. He had attempted to kill other tributes once the games had ended but even after he injured one, they were able to knock him out. The tribute responsible was in protective custody but he was not in any trouble.
The girl from 6 on the other hand would likely be placed in a mental institution in the Capitol. No one was sure what was wrong with her but despite her involvement in the rampant cheating it was likely she had been forced into it and her mind couldn't handle the pressure. Several Doctors speculated she may have have been brainwashed or drugged, but nothing could be proven as her drug tests were clear and she had no family remaining.
The 3 remaining careers, the girls from 1 and 4 and the boy from the Capital, were definitely going to prison but many were arguing that they should also be executed. All their token had been weaponise, just like those who were executed. They had all been part of the sponsorship scheme. They had all agreed to cheat. The only difference was they hadn't had a chance to use their tokens on anyone.
The other debate raging was one Cyan had a hand in. They had two tributes from different Districts who had done nothing wrong.
The Head Gamemaker, Maximus, was insisting that they simply put all 7 in a room, give each of them poison and whoever survives the others gets the antidote. His other suggestion had been to kill them all.
The Commentator for the games insisted the only fair way was to crown the boy from the Capitol. He insisted it was what the people would want and generally refused to listen when the boy's crime were read.
Some of the other Gamemakers insisted on a coin toss. Heads and one wins, tails and the other does.
Others thought that both should win. It didn't matter what the laws stated, it only mattered that the Games were officially ended so that people would have closure.
Debate had just broken out again when the Presidents Daughter entered the room.
"Miss Vesto of District 10 was murdered half an hour ago." She declared. "By presidential decree Aqua Riva is the Victor of the 171st Hunger Games..."
Second chapter up! =)
Not much more than filler I'm afraid. Hopefully next chapter will be related to the 172nd Games instead of the 171st, but since I am using randomisers to pick which non tributes to visit I can't actually promise anything!
Also, you may have notice the name change. This is officially What Lies Beneath - The 172nd Hunger Games, book 1 of the Massacre series.
