Jane was nervously rubbing her wet palms into the trousers of her suit and pacing the floor while Maura was glancing out of the window. They had ten minutes left until the cps would come to assess their house, them and their life's. Jane hoped that they would pass and get to foster Luca who was babbling away in his seat. Marcella who was dressed in a cute dress was talking to him.

When the brunette looked up at a gasp from the doc, she saw the blonde stiffen. Alarmed she strode over to lay a hand on her shoulders. A car was parked in their driveway and two people were getting out.

It took Jane the blink of an eye to realize that these were not what people from cps were supposed to look like. "Take the kids and run to the guest house when I tell you to. They wont see you. Call Frost and tell him that Mr. and Mrs. Jolly are here."

"But Jane. They will kill you." Maura whispered. Their eyes locked and Jane saw the fear in the doc's hazel orbs. "I'm going to be fine. I have a weapon. But I need to know that you and the kids are safe."

Maura took a deep breath and nodded. She lifted Marcella up and grabbed the boy out of his car seat with the other. "We are going to play a game." She whispered to Marcella who looked a bit scared. "We are going to hide, and mama is going to come and find us."

Marcella didn't look convinced but nodded in silence. "We have to be silent though. Can you be silent for me?" Maura whispered to the girl who nodded again. Jane walked over to kiss them all on their cheeks. Her hand stroking reassuringly over Marcellas head. Then she motioned Maura to go towards the back door.

Once sure that the kids couldn't see her, she cocked her head at Maura and pulled out her gun. There was a knock. Jane waited, feeling everything else than as sure as she had herself presented to Maura. She took a deep breath while Maura slowly opened the door to the yard, ready to run.

Jane bit her lip and waited, hoping that none of them got the idea to walk around the house. After checking the peephole and finding both people still in front of the door she nodded to Maura. The small path that led from the main house to the guest house was not visible from where the two men were standing.

Maura instructed Marcella one more time to be silent and then left. Jane was alone in the house now and was scared. She kept an eye on the men through the peephole, counting the seconds until she was sure, that her family was in the other house.

A second knock made her racing heart race faster. Then she slowly opened the door, hiding her gun in the holster under her jacket.

"Hello." One of them greeted her friendly. "We are from Child protective Service. We have an appointment." Mr. Finn rasped in a sweet voice. "You must be… uhm…" he feigned to check her name on a clipboard. "Jane Rizzoli." She said with a smile and held out her hand.

Both men smiled and shook it presenting themselves under fake names. "We are here to assess your situation." Jane smiled politely, trying to keep them outside as long as possible. Hopefully, Maura had called Frost by now.

"Uh yes. Kids love gardens. We have a big garden. And a big house. There is something I would like to show you before we go inside." She offered and walked down the driveway to the street. "Why don't we take a look at that later?" One of the men tried to hide the surprise about her actions in his words while following her reluctantly.

"No, really. Look at this nice neighborhood." Jane exclaimed and gestured around. "and this calm street. This is perfect for kids."

To her dismay it really was a calm street. She would have hoped for someone to pass by and that they wouldn't shoot her in public.

"We heard that two people were killed there lately. Actually, the boy's mother was among them." Mr. Finn tried to keep up with her. "Sadly, its true. But as you can see…." She stopped when hearing some sirens from afar. The men reacted by running towards their car. Before they knew Jane had shot two of the tires flat. Then she pointed the gun at them. Unfortunately, it was also the time the real cps arrived to find Jane fumbling with a gun in broad daylight.

She was followed by the cavalry, namely Frost and some officers who soon shoved both handcuffed men into their unmarked police cars. "Well, that was easy." Jane mumbled and blushed when finding the cps agent staring at her with an open jaw.

"Our life is not always like this." She tried to explain. Maura joined them with both kids on her arms. Marcella was kicking her feet which made Jane take her. Jane almost wrote the chance of to get to foster Luca. She thought that she could be happy if she could keep her own girl.

But to her surprise the agent asked if she could see the house and the garden. "Oh sure, of course!" the brunette replied. They did as asked and then sat down in the living room to answer some questions. Jane was past being nervous about the situation. The incident from earlier had managed to deflect all of her sorrows. Maybe it was also still the adrenaline rushing through her body which made her stay so calm. But for sure Maura's hand which lay in hers.

Once they were done with the procedure, they gave the agent an expectant look. The elder woman glanced around the house one more time before looking Jane straight in the eye.

"What I saw earlier wasn't the best advertisement to you." She slowly began and Jane thought that they would loose all after all. "But I take it, that it doesn't happen every day. And you brought your family into safety. I've noted this as a plus for you that the kids are safe at your home." Now the woman winked.

"I like what I see in general. Big house, huge garden, everything child safe, calm neighborhood and a loving couple. The kids are obviously well cared off. I will write into my report that I agree to the decision to let you foster the baby."

Jane almost jumped out of the couch, like Maura. They hugged each other and kissed. Satisfied with what she saw, the cps agent lifted from the armchair she had been sitting in and patted their shoulders. "Ill have the papers ready tomorrow. I need your signatures. How about you pass around 2pm?"

"Perfect!" Jane said out of breath. Marcella who had been playing silently on the floor, being the perfect little girl came over to join the joy. Jane lifted her up easily and kissed her. "Baby." She said with a smile. "Mama here, Mommy here, Mar… Mar… here and baby here." She giggled.

"Yes honey. We are all here." Jane confirmed.

"You already adopted one child. May I mention that this also worked in your favor?" The woman spoke up. "I can see that you are a good mother. We like our kids to go to loving homes. I'm happy that the boy got you."

"So, adoption would be possible?" Maura asked, holding Luca in her arm.

"Yes. I see no objection to it. Not right away of course. But when its time it shouldn't really be a problem."

Jane took another deep breath and thanked the agent. They stood at the door and waved her goodbye as she circled around the car with the flat tires. Frost had promised to send someone to tow it away. But Jane knew the crew. It could take hours, even days until they moved the car out of their driveway.

R&I

"What a day!" Jane exclaimed once the door was shut. "I'm going to follow up how they found out about our appointment with cps. I already have put Frost up to it, but I'm going to check by myself too. If there is a leak somewhere, we need to take care of it."

Jane glanced at Maura who agreed that it was a good idea. "What?" Maura asked when seeing the brunettes strange look. "Are you okay?" Maura stood insecure, furrowing her eyebrows when Jane began to laugh.

"You know that I just realized that I would love to date you if we weren't already dating."

Maura was confused now. "The way you handled the situation… You were just incredible. I never thought that I would ever find someone like you. I would trust my life with you anytime."

The doc blushed at the compliment. "Uh Jane. That's… I don't know what to say. Neither would i."

"I think we deserve some treat today. Maybe a little celebration for getting permission to foster Luca." Jane winked and Maura chuckled. "Do you have something special in mind?" she asked in a sultry tone.

"I have indeed. But its only going to happen after the kids are asleep." The brunette winked.

"I definitely like where this is going." Maura stated, pulling Jane closer by her belt. "Uhh, nice." Jane smiled and kissed Maura.

"Hungry, damn." Jane giggled and they rested their foreheads together. She went to make a bottle for the boy, while Maura began cooking a meal for them. It was late afternoon, which meant that it was also feeding time for Marcella.

Jane silently thanked Angela for stocking up their fridge and pantry with meals for the one-year-old. While the bottle was heating, she took one out to warm it in the microwave. Then she seated the girl into the highchair and placed the pot in front of her. Meanwhile Luca was sitting in her lap and grabbing for his bottle.

"This isn't going to be boring." Jane said to Maura who laughed. "Not boring at all right Luca?" she talked to the boy. Marcella grabbed the spoon and dipped it into the red cream with consisted of mixed spaghetti with tomato sauce.

"I'm pretty sure that we can try to give her things to chew." Maura stated from the other side of the kitchen counter. Jane agreed and made a mental note to talk to her mother about it.

R&I

Later that night they dropped into bed. All members of the family were clean, fed and happy. Maura and Jane had ended up postponing the celebration after being exhausted. Jane groaned and rubbed her eyes after she had laid back to the pillow.

She knew that she would have to get up in two hours again to feed Luca, which made her decide to try to get as much sleep as possible. She wanted to have Maura have a good night's sleep but when she woke up the next morning, she found the other bedside empty already before realizing that the blonde must have taken the last three feeding sessions.

Surprisingly relaxed she padded into the kitchen to find the empty bottles. She found Maura and Luca in the living room dozing peacefully on the couch. After checking her watch, she decided that the doc could sleep for a bit longer and she went to prepare breakfast.

Angela walked in when she was just making pancakes for Marcella. Both Rizzoli women smiled at each other and Jane nodded to the living room at her mother's questioning look. "That's so sweet!" the matriarch whispered as she took a picture.

"Will you send it to me?" Jane asked, shoveling a pancake onto a plate. "Of course." Angela smiled. "It's time for Marcellas first pancake?" she then asked her daughter who nodded. "We decided yesterday that her teeth are not only to chomp on biscuits." Jane explained.

"Yeah, guess you are right." Angela agreed to Janes surprise.

"I made some for you too." The brunette smirked and laughed at her mother's reaction. "Come on, ma. You are constantly making breakfast for us. It's time that one of us makes a breakfast for you too." She winked at her touched mother. "Sit with us and enjoy some good pancakes."
