Maggie's phone rang and she knew exactly who it was. Winston. She sighed she was in the middle of her research, but she was also curious to see what it was about. They had been talking, for what almost two weeks now, and it had been going alright. She however still wasn't sure if he was the right fit. He made her smile and everything seemed perfect. She just couldn't put her finger on it which bothered her as she hated an unsolved puzzle.
She decided to go get a drink while answering her messages as she got to the cafeteria she heard the residents whispering about an incident. Probably something interesting happened in the pit she thought till she heard Jackson's name and "nearly died". She felt an uncomfortable pit in her stomach
"Schmitt" she called out "what happened with Jack- Dr Avery"
"Um he got shot on a ride along with Warren" Maggie rushed from the cafeteria before she could here Schmitt say he was fine.
This could not be happening sure she may have thought about Jackson being hurt, preferably him falling of a cliff, but she didn't mean for it to actually come true. I'm a terrible person she thought to herself.
Maggie rushed towards his room. It seemed weird how everyone was so calm. One of their own had been shot and yet the hallway seemed mostly empty. When she finally got there she could see through the window Meredith half smirking with a look of worry on her face. Okay if Meredith wasn't worried maybe it wasn't that huge, but then again Meredith always seemed to be calm when the wildest things were happening.
She opened the door slowly Meredith turned towards her with a soft smile
"shot in the leg, vitals are stable and he's completely fine" she said with a quick eye roll.
Maggie was grateful Meredith went straight to the point. She could probably see her half freaking out.
"Shot in the leg Meredith he could've died!" "But he didn't. he'll be fine and up on his feet in the next couple of weeks right."
Meredith and Jackson shared a secret look. Before he replied "Yes and I will think about it okay, go". Meredith held her hands up before leaving. Just as she left she gave Maggie a quick look asking if she was fine and Maggie nodded her head.
Maggie sat at the edge of the bed looking at his charts.
"You got lucky, the bullet could've almost hit your femoral artery".
"I'm good Maggie seriously."
"You are fine right. you're not just saying that to act brave"
Maggie whispered under her breath. "This might be karma though"
"Karma" Jackson said with a laugh, "Yeah okay maybe I deserved that. Honestly it's just made me realise it's time for me to stay in this hospital no more ambulance rides. Not like it's any safer in here I suppose."
Maggie smiled "a fair point there"
Jackson grabbed her hand before saying
"I've missed you Maggie. All I could think about was how I wanted you by my side"
"Jackson" Maggie sighed. "You're just saying that because you were in a traumatic accident things haven't changed between us"
"But they have I know what I want I've had time to think" Jackson insisted
"And what about Vic" Maggie scared to ask
"Vic? oh Vic" Jackson said and Maggie could see in his face something was still going on with them
"This is it Jackson you're incapable of doing anything by yourself. You can't keep jumping for person to person. Are you sure that's even want you want or its just the trauma speaking" Maggie exclaimed as she felt her voice rising
"Maggie come on."
"No Jackson I'm serious. I can't do the back and forth and the ego anymore. I can't tell if your serious or not and I can't go through this again." Maggie trailed off. "I can't be with you if I can't even see you've changed since the woods. a couple of apologies isn't going to fix that."
Suddenly the door opened and they both jumped to see Vic at the door.
"You got shot and you didn't even tell me!" she let out breathlessly.
Maggie turned back to Jackson and gave him 'an exactly' look. Maggie turned back to Vic and she could see her eyes trail towards to her and Jackson's entwined hands. Maggie pulled away quickly.
"I'm going to let you two talk." She said as she jumped to the door. she gave a quick look behind before closing the door
Her phone beeped again and there was Winston with another text. Maggie sighed and smiled. Maybe it was best for her to focus on someone who actually cared instead of all the back and forth with Jackson that had to be the healthier option.
Maggie walked away from Jackson's room trying to keep her mind on her texts to Winston and not on the man behind the hospital door.
