Here's chapter 3, A/N at the end
"And here we have the main area" Maggie showed Winston as they walked through the hospital.
"it's always on my list when I visit a new place to make a stop at the nearest hospital" Winston teased.
Maggie laughed they were supposed to go around Seattle for the day before the big dinner, but she had been pulled into an emergency surgery that Teddy had said she desperately needed the extra help.
"I'm really sorry about all this again I had everything planned and well…."
"I'm a surgeon too I know how it gets" he gave her a soft smile.
Maggie sighed how did he always have the right thing to say. It was almost scary at times.
"Well, I spend most of my time here anyway so you may as well get to see how it all looks outside of a phone".
"Although I think I'd like to see the great Maggie Pierce at work again it's been a very long time since I've got to see you in action".
Maggie blushed; she knew she was good, but it was always nice to hear it from someone.
She grabbed his hand and lead him to the gallery.
Things had settled down in the OR between her and Teddy. They had gotten through most of the scarring and now it was just mostly routine. Maggie knew it would be okay for her to leave now and she felt slightly guilty for choosing to stay, but the OR was such a comfort place and it always managed to calm her nerves and she couldn't help but be on the edge of feet anticipating tonight. She had no idea how it would turn out and it was nice to have this small moment to not think about it while she focused on the patient. That was until Teddy spoke up wondering why there was an in her words 'A cute guy she'd never seen before watching them from the gallery, sorry watching Maggie from up above'.
"That's Winston my... um friend from out of town" Maggie mumbled trying to focus so Teddy would stop asking questions, but she knew that would not happen. Her and Amelia where like two sides of the same coin always blurting out information to her and not minding their business.
Teddy laughed out loud "A friend not from the way he's been watching you for the last hour" Maggie was grateful that she was facing away from Winston she did not need him to see her face or his reactions as she knew he could everything that was being said right now.
"he's just here for the weekend and dinner" Maggie stuttered she really had no idea what she was saying or why she was trying to explain the situation but thankfully Teddy caught on and changed the subject to her and Owen's upcoming wedding. She was relieved, but she realised that she really needed to define what this was with Winston. I mean he was meeting her family tonight that clearly meant something, but deep-down Maggie knew that was it was never that simple no matter how much she wanted it to be. She just wasn't that kind of person.
Maggie walked down into the lobby seeing Jackson and Winston talking. She froze she had not planned this at all. I mean how do you handle your ex and your new partner meeting this had never happened to her before. The first thought was to run, but where to she told Winston to meet her here and it was not like she could send him around the hospital looking for her just because she didn't want to talk to Jackson. No, she was more mature than that.
She straightened her jacket and walked purposely over towards the duo.
"Hey, you" she breathed out trying not sound awkwardly.
Winston put his arm around her pulling her closer. "that surgery was great I almost forgot how talented you are". However, she could barely pay attention to what he was saying as she watched Jackson raise his eyebrow and look between the two. she stiffened. No Maggie she thought to herself. It doesn't matter what he thinks, or his opinion just ignore him.
Just as she was about to turn back towards Winston asking if he was ready to go. Jackson spoke up.
"Maggie you never said that you had a friend from Boston" he said with a slight smirk.
Maggie frowned he knew he was trying to get to her.
"I didn't think that was anything to do with you" she said directly "or that you suddenly cared who I was hanging out with again".
Jackson opened his mouth with what looked like he was ready to come back with a retort before he just smiled and responded tightly "now no need to be harsh Maggie I just wanted to meet your new fri- I mean boyfriend".
She froze why did say the word boyfriend like that. It wasn't as if you could say anything especially with Winston standing next to her.
"Winston Jackson, Jackson Winston. Jackson is Catherine's son" she said quickly hoping they could rush out of here.
Winston nodded his head slowly as if he were trying to assess the situation here.
Maggie really didn't want the awkward conversation that would come with explaining that Jackson was her ex-boyfriend in fact she'd rather avoid the topic this whole weekend. It was still a sore subject and she there was no for Winston to get the wrong idea that she was not over Jackson or anything like that.
After a long pause Winston spoke up "We were just about to head over to Maggie's sisters house for dinner"
Jackson let out a quick laugh "and who's cooking exactly".
Maggie said back "we've actually not that bad, you know when we have the time".
"Hmmm"
"Okay fine, Link and Deluca are taking offered to cook for everyone" Maggie huffed "but that was their choice we could've done it without them."
"right and you couldn't read at least one medical journal without going to bed".
Maggie rolled her eyes "you know it helps me fall asleep".
Winston suddenly interrupted "I'm sorry what?"
Jackson smirked "oh nothing just be grateful it's the guys cooking tonight".
Jackson walked away and Maggie could see him still laughing too. He was so infuriating, the way he would always so easily able to get under her skin as of recent.
Winston frowned suddenly "Am I missing something here, you guys seem much closer than you said".
"I- "Maggie realised she didn't know how to answer that. Yes, her and Jackson were done but even she could be objective and realise from an outside gaze that their actions did not match up to her words. She hated how she could in a way almost feel comfortable with him even when he was making fun of her. The downside of knowing someone so well she guessed.
"It doesn't matter" she finally answered "when you work long hours with people I you get that sense of familiarity with him you know" she hoped her did.
It looked like Winston was going to answer back but he just shook her head and pulled her into a kiss instead.
"we should probably get going before all the food gets cold" he whispered, "I wouldn't want to make us late and leave a bad impression on your sisters".
"they'll understand it was a surgeon thing" Maggie smiled before softly kissing him back and leading him towards the car, thoughts of Jackson already leaving her mind.
She hoped tonight went well- no she needed it too. This was her fresh start, and she wasn't about to allow Jackson to ruin her good mood.
A/N I got so busy I didn't have time to come back to it so hopefully I can finish it off now. The show isn't exactly giving much inspiration at the moment so I'm kind of going with flow at the moment. hopefully we do get some jaggie moments when the show comes back, but we will see.
Anyway next chapter is the big dinner which is definitely going to push Maggie's relationship further
