I hope you enjoy this chapter; I've been trying to work on it as much as possible over the past week. I would really like to know what you think of it so far, so please comment if you would like me to continue with this story.

Lily pushed her way through the crowd at King's Cross Station, Bernie's cage was stacked carefully upon her trunk. She glanced at the clock and it read 10.45. Only 15 minutes to go. 15 more minutes until she met the new Head Boy. Lily had given it a lot of thought over the past week and one of main contenders for Head Boy would be Remus Lupin. Even though he was a marauder, he at least had some notion about what was right and wrong, unlike like the others. Lily's parents walked at her heels; they had insisted that they were coming to see their youngest daughter off to her final year at school. Final year, that sounds nice. Lily was overjoyed at the thought that this was her final year but was still unsure of what life was to bring her in the real world. She had given it much thought and was still unsure what she wanted to do after Hogwarts. Deciding to worry about it when the time comes, Lily turned to her parents, who had stopped 6 feet from the barrier between platform 9 and 10. Her father placed one hand on her shoulder, the other on the trolley. Together the three of them walked through the barrier, onto to the busy platform.

Lily looked around, taking in the scene before her. First years, chatting animatedly to each other while their parents fussed straightening their jackets and smothering them with affection. This would be the longest any of them had been away from home and Lily was reminded of her first term at Hogwarts without her parents. She wrote to them every day for the first month, beginning to miss them less and less as the days passed and she settled into her new home. Lily never felt truly at home at her parents' house and was ecstatic when she received her Hogwarts letter all those years ago. It didn't mean she loved her parents any less, only that she always knew that there was something different about her compared to her sister. In fact, she was relieved when she met the hooked nose, greasy haired boy that day in the woods. Someone could finally explain all the strange things she was doing. Pushing Severus to the back of her mind, she turned to her parents, their eyes full and tears threatening to spill. She wouldn't be seeing them again until Christmas, even though they'd exchange letters at least once fortnight – if not more. Her mother fussed with her hair, running her fragile fingers through it tentatively, no longer able to hide the tears that were flowing freely down her cheeks. The three of them stood there in their tight embrace for what could've been hours but was only minutes when the sound of the train broke them apart. Lily pulled away, turning her back on her emotional parents sparing them a final smile and wave before climbing up to the train that would take her home.

Lily walked briskly to the end of the rather empty train, being 10 minutes early meant that she wouldn't have to fight her way through the crowds lost new students. She was extremely eager to meat the new Head Boy. Finally reaching the end of the train, she reached a door with a gold plate that read: Heads Compartment. Sliding the door open, Lily stopped in her tracks, a look of horror swept across her face. Four teenage boys were gathered around the wooden table which stood in the middle of the compartment, all of them invested in a game of wizard's chess. Lily cleared her throat and four pairs of mischievous eyes met her own. You've got to be serious. "Remus, we need to brief the new Prefects in 10 minutes, I'll leave you finish your game."

They all stared at her, and Lily shifted her feet uncomfortably. After what seemed like an eternity, the tallest of the four stood up, running his hand through his messy hair and James Potter climbed over the legs of Remus. Remus just shook his head and smiled to himself. "Where have you been?" He dramatically read the time on his watch, "we've been waiting for you to show up for 10 minutes, not a great first impression as Head Girl." Lily rolled her eyes at him as Peter struggled to supress his giggles from behind his hand.

"Remus, we should really go and brief the new Prefects, they're all waiting for us in the Prefect's compartment." That's when she saw it. The golden Head Boy badge shinning at her from where it was pinned on Potters chest. Dumbledore's gone mad. No way in hell would Dumbledore leave this… buffoon in charge of other people's children. Lily's eyes widened in awe as she glanced at Remus and he just grinned and nodded, confirming this atrocity. "But – but, you weren't even a Prefect last year, how is this even possible?"

He just grinned wickedly back at her "Congratulations to you too Lily, your complete faith in me has once again filled me with a great deal of confidence." Her mouth fell open. "What? You can't be that surprised. After all, I am one of Dumbleodore's favourites." She immediately clamped her jaw shut.

"Hey Prongs, I think that Red is jealous of your talent to charm." Sirius piped from his seat beside Peter. He flashed her his famous grin, and she vigorously rolled her eyes at him. Her lips were pressed firmly, she was adamant she wasn't going to bite. The silence fell around them, and she certainly wasn't keen on breaking it. She wasn't going to break it. She couldn't accept that he was her equal. It sounded petty really, but she had always been superior to him, whether it was academically or otherwise. She couldn't give him or his hell-raising marauders detention because they were equal. Dumbledore was a wise man, there must've been a mistake. She would just have a word with Professor Dumbledore on their arrival and this would be set straight.

"There's been no mistake, Dumbledore even broke the news to me himself." Great, she thought, not only is he my equal, he's a mind reader too. With a loud, exaggerated sigh Lily plopped herself into the nearest seat and dropped her face to her feet. What an idiot. "Hey, don't act so disappointed!"

The train journey dragged for Lily, watching the four boys playing tournament after tournament of chess and predicting the fate of Sirius' love life for the forthcoming year. The only break she had was when her and James had to meet with the Prefects. That only lasted 15 minutes and James had even let her take the reigns whilst he stood behind her nodding approvingly his head in agreement. After the meeting she left rather quickly, practically running back to the compartment when she was cornered by Severus. Luckily James and Remus, who was also in the meeting, interjected and provided her with a good excuse to escape Severus' pleading apologies… she had promised to play chess with Sirius. He wanted to talk to her…again. He had been writing to her all summer and she had been ignoring him for it all. She had no intention of talking to him and walked briskly to find the compartment with her friends. Lily didn't return to the Heads compartment until Hogwarts was in sight and that was inly to collect Bernie. She did not need James asking question as to why she was avoiding Severus, the both boys despised each other enough as it was.

Over the past year, Lily had started warming up to the idea of her and James being friends. To his face she always acted annoyed with his obsession with her. No other boy looked at her the way James looked at her, even if it wasn't always completely innocent. Deep down, she secretly liked it but she'd never admitted that… not even to herself. She had helped him with Potions and Charms and in return she had received help with her Transfiguration homework. They had even started calling each other by their names. Their real names. For years they had been Potter and Evans to each other. Nothing more, nothing less. It seemed since Christmas in their 6th year, James had really matured. He didn't always act his age, but after those two weeks apart, even Lily noticed that he wasn't as enthusiastic about doing everything in his power to get detention as he used to be.

Pushing James Potter from her mind, Lily walked up the steps alone to the entrance of the castle. It was really a beautiful place to call home. Walking through the giant doors, Lily wondered what her final year here would bring. Only time can tell.
