"I don't want an enormous wedding." Ron tries to say it with as much conviction as possible, his voice firm to let Lavender know that he's putting his foot down.
Inside, however, he is more nervous than he will ever admit. It seems that every wedding he's ever attended has been some giant affair. Each time, he's seen the way Lavender's eyes would widen, the delighted smile on her lips. So, when he proposed, he had resigned himself to the fact that he would have some grand wedding.
Now, he isn't sure that he wants that, and he knows it will break her heart.
He braces himself, anticipating the pouting and the guilt. Instead, Lavender just looks up from the bridal magazine she's looking through and shrugs. "I don't either."
Ron opens his mouth but quickly closes it again, brows knitting together as he works through what she's just said. "But… You love weddings," he says.
Lavender closes the magazine and sets it aside before turning her attention back to Ron. An amused smile curls the corners of her lips. "I do. I love being a guest at weddings, at least. Being a bridesmaid for Parvati was pretty fun too." She climbs to her feet and moves closer, offering him a look that says he's got it all wrong. "But actually planning my own? Ha!"
Ron nods. It has been a wild adventure. Weddings take so much work, and they've only been in the planning stages for a month.
"I would happily just run away with you and elope," she adds, taking his hand and squeezing it gently.
"I think our families would murder us."
She sighs softly and wraps her arms around him, closing the remaining distance between them. "Probably." She shakes her head. "So, something small and simple. I don't care. All I care about ie becoming Mrs. Lavender Weasley."
Ron relaxes, feeling silly. He had been so worried about causing drama, but there hadn't been any reason for concern. Of course Lavender would be happy with this. How could he have ever doubted her?
"Mrs. Lavender Weasley," he echoes. "It has a nice ring to it."
For now, it is a dream, but soon it will be a reality.
