A Minotaur's Revenge
Part Two
Thunder roared as lightning streaked through the dark gray sky. Down in the forest just outside Camp Half-Blood, Percy stood a few inches away from Brutus. While everyone else stood behind the barrier watching.
Slipping into his fighting stance with his hand on his pen, Brutus roared.
"Your dead boy," Brutus said aggressively.
"We'll see," Percy said with the same aggression.
The two circled around each other like two animals scanning their prey. Percy took a step back and Brutus move forward swinging his fists missing Percy by an inch. Ducking under Brutus's hand, Percy aimed his pen at his chest, only for Brutus to smack him away with his other hand.
Stumbling back, Percy kept moving, keeping out of Brutus's reach. Sighing Percy shook his head, his first plan back fired now it was time to think of another one and fast.
Cheers rang out from behind the barrier as everyone rooted for Percy, they hope their voices would give him the strength he needed to win. But Chiron remain silent as he watched the fight, so did Annabeth and Grover.
Back in the forest, Percy kept jumping and rolling out of the way of Brutus's punches and kicks. For every time he tried to get close, he always ended up getting knock him back. But this he saw an opening, not wasting any time Percy sprinted forward and slid under Brutus's arm. He punched hard in the face and jumped back, wincing as he shook his hand. Well, that wasn't the best idea, but it worked.
Brutus stumbled back he couldn't believe how powerful that punch was. Shaking his head, he chalked it up to beginner's luck. So, he lowered his head, lining his horns with Percy's neck.
Scraping his hooves along the ground, smoke emerged from his nose as he charged toward the demigod.
Percy's eyes widened, and he took off running. Jumping over logs, hiding behind trees bushes anything he could think of but no matter what he did Brutus always tore them to shreds or knock them down. But what threw him for a loop was when he took a sharp, Brutus did as well, but it took him a little while to recover. Percy smiled for he finally figured out his Plan B.
Meaning while behind the barrier everyone grew quiet, they could no longer see Percy or Brutus. But Chiron kept staring. Soon a gentle breeze brushed across the centaur's cheek. Taking a deep breath, he nodded. Annabeth and Grover look to their mentor.
"What is it?" Annabeth asked.
"The tide is about to change," Chiron said.
Breathing hard, Percy stops he turned around seeing Brutus was getting closer and closer. Knowing he couldn't keep this up he stood there narrowing his eyes as he waited while keeping his thumb on the tip of his pen.
The moment Brutus was inches from him Percy he stepped to the side and clicked his pen. As the sword formed, he slashed at Brutus, who screamed. Brutus knocked Percy up against the tree and held him there by his elbow. But Percy smiled, for on the ground laid one of Brutus's horns.
While keeping Percy pinned to the tree with his left elbow and trying to pull out a sword with his other hand. He finally dropped Percy as blood dripped from his wound into his eyes. Stumbling backwards, he kept trying to wipe the blood from his eyes, but more kept blocking his vision. Seeing his chance Percy rolled over and pick up the horn stabbing it right in Brutus's his chest.
Brutus placed his hand around the horn, with his mouth ajar and eyes widen then fell backwards with a loud thud shaking the ground.
Breathing hard and rubbing his neck, Percy drag himself over to Brutus, who was gasping for air as he laid his arms down to his sides. It was over he no longer had the strength or will left to fight anymore. In fact, he smiled as tears trickled down cheeks.
"Thank you, when my brother died, all I could think of was ending the man who took him from me," Brutus said, before coughing. "But now as I lay here, all I can do is smile."
Percy's couldn't believe it; he never would imagine his enemy would being thanking him for such a thing. In fact, if he remembered right, minotaur's were various brutal creatures that only followed orders. Yet Brutus was different: he came for him out of revenge. Perhaps his rage overtook him and he wasn't thinking clearly. Percy sighed if only he had seen this then maybe this could have ended a different way.
"It's not every day an enemy thanks me for ending their life, I though you would have a snarky come back line or something," Percy said before sitting down by Brutus' head.
"No… I am content for once in my life my mind is clear, no more rage, no more anger. I think I can finally be with my brother again,"
Tears slid down Percy's cheeks, for everything Brutus said touched his heart. While not having a brother of his own, he couldn't imagine what he must have been feeling. But for this to bring him peace, he was glad.
"Well, it is best to go with a clear head. So you better not keep your brother waiting," Percy said, wiping away tears.
Another smile crept across Brutus's lips as he took his last breath and closed his eyes.
Pulling out his sword, Percy flick the blood off and stood there. He saved the camp, gave Brutus his revenge and peace, but he wasn't happy. Shaking his head, he sighed, but he soon felt a hand pat him on the shoulder. So, he looked to his right to see Chiron standing. The two stood there for a while, looking over Brutus's body.
"I knew you would win, but I never though I would see you here morning him." Chiron said.
"He thanked me," Percy said.
"How do you feel about that?"
"Sad, if I used my head this could end peacefully,"
"Maybe, but I don't think it would of, for rage clouds the mind and thinking is lost to the wind. You did what you had to do to protect others. A true hero sees side most people don't the side of your opponent,"
"When I go back, there will be cheers as everyone relishes in his defeat. But I won't I will cry, but not tears of joy but tears for him and his peace,"
The ground shook once more; it crumbled around Brutus' body as it fell through. But when it stopped, the whole filled back up as if nothing ever happened. Percy looked to Chiron, who nodded and sighed.
"Ah, Gia how she favors her minotaur's, now come we have people waiting," Chiron said.
Nodding, Percy and Chiron head back to the Camp half blood.
Once the two of them walked through, cheers rang out along with songs as everyone lifted Percy up. Annabeth and Grover lead the way they head toward the main campfire. But Chiron didn't he stayed behind. He watched as Percy forced a smile on his lips as tears streamed down his face. It was like he predicted joy ranged out all around him, but sadness lay with him.
A hero, while many deem them a blessing, it's also a curse too.
